The record label didn't want to do the album because they felt, "you can't dance to it". The lead singer replied, "but you can make love to it." Then suddenly they had a record deal.

They should have been in the Hall of Fame 35 years ago. But yeah they should have had this song in there to begin with. The people who got in the Hall of Fame that were and are nobody's pretty much really disgust me compared to The Moody Blues waiting what 50 years. They are the best rock and roll band of my lifetime. I am 63 years old. The thing that I find really remarkable is that as I get older I understand the lyrics better.

Sooo right Alan. Days through to Octave = prog rock classics. I see list of great bands, great albums and very rarely see the Moodies. The group that sang about the environment (Question lp) before it became fashionalbe. The group that sang about isolation and the need for a simpler life (7th Sojourn) before it became fashionable. Moodies again ahead of the curve.

Basically, the Moody Blues created the genre of progressive rock, yet they are consistently ignored in the lists of prog rock bands on the internet. I think perhaps they lost credibility with the move to synth-pop after Pinder left the group.

Remember this was the time of Viet Nam, and many riots. This band tried to bring peace. They finally made it to the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Seeing them in concert, well that was a totally great night. Singer in a rock and roll band, Nights in white satin was a song I danced to with my prom date. #TheMoodyBlues - The Story In Your Eyes 'or' I'm Just A Singer In A Rock 'n Roll Band (two of their more 'rocking' pieces) (Kitchener, Ontario, Canada) Perfect indeed...thank you, thank you for playing this magnificent piece (and the version with Late Lament to boot!) What a way to start my Monday! I introduced my girlfriend (now wife, Jenny) to this group (and she's a classically trained pianist), she absolutely fell in love with them! Enough so that this very song became our wedding song - so it's ironic that just a week prior (June 7th, our 16th anniversary), I sent her a link to a video from 1967 performance of this song which she had never seen! I get chills EVERY time I hear this...the ultimate love song! I highly suggest checking out the entire 'Days Of Future Passed' album - it's a sonic experience like no other! I'd also recommend anything from their first 7 albums. Thanks!

It hooked me (though I didn’t discover The Moodies till 1982). Days Of Future Passed, as the title suggests is timeless. The days come and go in 2020 just the same as they did in 1967. Even though I was fifteen years down the line the music of this LP simply evokes many feelings and emotions I was experiencing as a twelve year old schoolboy. In my subconscious I feel I may have heard some of this at that time. There was so much going on musically and even your classmates would discuss the songs that appeared on Top Of The Pops the previous evening...oh what memories...thank God for the music and those who blessed us with it.

When I was 17 I was into bands with guitar, bass and drums. rock.. My girl was 28 and her brother was 24 and they were both big Moody Blues fans. They ook me to a Moody Blues concert in 1971 and I had tears rolling down my face when they played Nights In White Satin! I've seen them at least a dozen times since then!

I wish people wouldn't post supposed "videos" from before the video era. This, for instance, is not a video produced in 1967-68 but something made by a fan that I think detracts from the song itself. The best reaction I've ever heard to this song was a radio deejay following it by just repeating, "Savor, savor, savor ..."

That "video" is even computer-generated! They did not have that in 1967-68.

Justin Haywood, the vocalist for the Moody Blues also sung on Jeff Wayne’s musical version of “The War Of The Worlds”. He sung Forever Autumn on the album. Might worth a listen if you enjoy ballards.

Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the greatest pieces of music to ever have been written in the 20th Century! (And I loved that Kel included "Silent Lucidity" among the this & "Stairway To Heaven" - that earned points with me!!) \m/

Bands of the late 60's were heavily into the American blues style. Some other blues lovers were the Yard Birds ( Cream and Led Zeppelin), Deep Purple, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Who and even Black Sabbath.

First, Rich, Happy Father's Day. It was a great pleasure to watch Kel as she took the journey through the mind of this wonderful piece of music. You can see how she was remembering the letters that she had written, "never meaning to send." As the poetry spoke of Love she was thinking of you Rich as she was reaching for your hand. Then just as she anticipated the end of the song only to be surprised by the journey of the mind as she listened to the final poem. Wonderful, just wonderful to watch and relive it through her eyes. :-)

You know Rich and Kel, the Moody Blues breakout album "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" is a gem. I highly recommend giving a listen to the first two songs "Procession" followed by "The Story in Your Eyes" for a taste of how the Moody Blues began. Super inventive and highly musical. Great stuff. Love what you're doing. Cheers!

I first heard this on a very low-fidelity, battery powered, record player in 1967. It's been a favorite ever since. I saw them live in the '90's, with a full orchestra, on their Red Rocks tour. Kel's reaction brought tears to my eyes, just as the live experience did. The sonic wonderment can be overwhelming.

You can prefer older music without insulting newer music, especially since it seems like you haven't heard a ton of newer music. There is plenty of good stuff out there, unless all you do is listen to the radio. I personally just love good music for its own sake, and I don't see the point in dividing it by genre (or the date it came out). But you do you...

One of *the* most beautiful songs ever written! The Moodies are one of my all-time favorite bands. This song also holds a special place in my heart because that poem at the end, Late Lament, was recorded the day I was born (according to the back cover of the This Is The Moody Blues compilation album released in 1972). I had loved this and Tuesday Afternoon as a child, but did not really start following them until I was in jr high/high school, with Long Distance Voyager and others. In college, I found their earlier albums in used record stores, and I became hooked on the Moody Blues magic from the late 60s through the 70s. In my humble opinion, Justin Hayward has one of the most beautiful, smooth, and soothing voices of all time. I'd suggest The Actor from In Search of the Lost Chord (1968) for one of Kel's next listens just for the amazing vocals. Also The Best Way To Travel, from the same album, in which you hear the sound literally circling your head. So awesome! I'd also suggest Are You Sitting Comfortably? from On The Threshold of a Dream (1969). This piece always puts me in a beautiful place in my mind, and I could listen to it on repeat for hours. *sigh* Forever Autumn from Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds (1978) is especially poignant and beautiful. Although it was not written by the band, I'm not sure anyone else could have performed it as well as the Moody Blues. It would probably bring Kel to tears. I found this album at a used record dealer and purchased it just to have this masterpiece on vinyl. Really, anything you listen to by this band will not disappoint!!

The name comes from the song Mood Indigo and a Beer Company named Blue Beer, The album Days of Future Passed was an attempt to recreate Dvorak's Symphony no. 9 From the New World. This what happens when the record says we will give you time in the studio to test our new stereophonic equipment. As the members of the Moodies have said, it was kids in atoy store. As an aside, the London Festival Orchestra never really existed as an entity, they could not get the London Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra were studio musicians. The name was used for the album label and cover, and to fool some record company execs.
