Omega didnt "do much" to capitalize, but then again, the sales numbers on the Speedy pro went up by 50% or so according to some sources (some articles wrote about it).

I hope they don’t just limit this collaboration to the Moonwatch, this could be just the start of something of bigger future collabs. They could venture to expanding the concept to the Seamaster Omega x Swatch collab too: there are 31 varieties of the Sea theme for them to think about (e.g., Atlantic, Mediterranean, Red, Baltic, Arabian, South China, Celebes, etc). Another one is Railmaster collab series: the likes of Amtrak, British, Eurostar, Trenitalia, Oriental Express, SBB, etc). Better yet, the Constellation collab series would do great with so many possible variants.

19:53 I experienced the exact scenario this weekend at Swatch Boutique in NYC. To be fair, I was with my wife and we were both wearing Omega Speedmasters (new 2021 sapphire 3861 & blue coaxial Moonphase chronometer) and we came in with a an Omega bag from Omega boutique next door (non watch purchase) - and we were browsing around the entire swatch boutique and enjoying some of the new Pompidou Art collection and we picked out a green bioceramic for our teenage daughter. Meanwhile, there are people constantly coming in asking for Moonswatch and being told “we are sold out” and immediately walking out…when I was checking out with our purchase, I asked about Moonswatch availability- they did whisper “we have some Moonswatch models…and noticed your enthusiasm in our store, do you want one?” So I bought a Mission to Earth…. While it may seem on the surface they are playing a ‘Rolex Sport Model, buy some shit first game’ it appears they just want to sell to Swatch base customers first - not people coming directly in for one thing and one thing only. One of the associates said it’s been rough work - they get harassed and yelled at constantly…but certainly, the shift to sell only in Boutiques is a well-trained merchandising tactic that their staff must have trained for and using it to drive order attach rates….

100% true. Here in Germany same story. I got it from watch store employee backdoor after paying in the shop, i have to wait outsite…… unbelievable.

Re: RM, it's kinda like when TAG Heuer made watches that set horological records (Flying 1000 or Mikro Pendulum S for example), people didn't really like it because it confounded their prejudices. I agree the RM Ferrari is ugly, but the fact that it has a separate movement inside makes it super impressive to me.

I went on eBay to buy my Moonswatch. I paid close to £300 for it. When it was delivered it turned out to be a fake! I reported it and luckily, eBay gave me my money back. I suspect the seller bought one of the cheap fakes and tried to pass it off as a genuine one.

My son and I traveled to Miami from Atlanta for the launch---no watch. I was in London for business last month and went to 3 Swatch stores. It was worse than going to a Rolex dealer (and I went to plenty of those). Swatch has lied so many times their customers over this one watch for 4 months now that I don't know how they win anyone back. My 15 year old son took that road trip to Miami with me and waited for me to call him from London--both HUGE disappointments. It would not be so bad if Swatch did not constantly reassure customers they would NOT be disappointed. My son is in high school. I'm not sending him to school wearing a $2-4k brand name watch. The Moonswatch was perfect for him as a HS flex. Screw Swatch. They have lost soooooo many customers over this BS.

visited nyc over July 4th. stopped in swatch Times Square in the morning. the saleswoman told me stop by in the afternoon, that's when they receive the moonswatch shipments. we walked all day and stopped back . the same woman - told me they had two (2)- I got the mission to earth . not sure its getting much wrist time - but .... ~ JDS/CT

This past Sunday. I go into the Times Square store. No watches. So we walk to the 5th Ave store. There are two other people milling around the store. I ask, and they say "Sorry, we had some yesterday". I'm like, ok and ask them a few questions and show them the $35 AliExpress Mission to Mercury knock-off I was wearing. While we're talking, the other two people left. So now it's just me and my lady friend with the 4 clerks. That's when they say "We actually have two". A Jupiter and a Pluto. They proceed to tell me, they are not allowed to sell any when more than one person is in the store. So I bought the Jupiter. It's one per person, so they offered the other one to my friend. Even though I have an active Ebay store. It's not what I want to get involved with. So we declined the second watch. So now the purchase is complete, but I'm still talking to one of the guys about the knock-off. A lone guy walks in and asks if the have any. They tell him NO. Even though they still had the Pluto watch in the back. For the life of me, I have no idea what the hell their strategy is. Were they looking for a bribe or kickback when there's no one in the store? To be completely honest. The knock-off is the wrong color for Mercury. The Chinese gave it a light gray case, instead of black and a tan strap that is that's the wrong color, but properly embossed MERC. Quality wise, it's It's actually just as good as the real Swatch. Fully functional, waterproof, decent construction and the velcro strap is actually a nicer quality and more comfortable than the genuine. The entire back comes off, complete with an O-ring. There is a Sunon PE50 movement in it. The little Mercury emblem is a much higher quality than the sticky, gooey Jupiter emblem they put on the genuine. I hope you guys found that interesting. It's EXACTLY as you described. And also, I did not actually see the watch in the store. She came out of the back with the watch in a gift bag taped shut.

My friend got two Omega x Swatch moonswatches in Las Vegas. I don't think it was that hard to get but he didn't the colours he wanted. I'm excited to see the quality in person tbh...I don't have high expectations :/

So I had a similar experience to that guy. They did the sale in store and sealed the bag without me having seen the watch or box….the could sold me some actual garbage 😏. Anyway, people came in asking and they told them nothing available and they told me it’s too much craziness to deal with.

Fellas, I broke down and bought two Moonswatches from the Timesquare location a few weeks ago. My wife and I where two of about 30 in line, 20 of witch where scalpers. Kid outside had a constant rotation of dudes going in buying one at a time. Weirdest experience I've ever had getting a watch.

I have a real one and a fake one. The fake ones are kinda impressive. But the meca quartz movement Chinese manufacturers are using has a 24 hour subdial at 2 o'clock while the MoonSwatch has a tenth of a second subdial there. So it's kinda weird having it rotate all day long on the fake one.

Rumor has it, Omega is selling more Speedmasters than ever following the release of the MoonSwatch.

This has been an interesting experiment in pure brand value. Try to decide how much you would pay for this if it were just a Swatch versus how much you’d pay because of the Omega branding and, man, the difference is a lot less than I expected it to be when this project was first announced.

I recently got a fake moonswatch mission to the moon, few days later I traveled with family and managed to purchase a mission to mars at a swatch store. I don't wanna be that guy, but my fake moonswatch is at least 3x better. The crystal is mineral, which I know isn't great, but it is better than a plastic "crystal". The mechanism on fake features a sweeping hand for the chronograph function. Finally to top it all off, the case material for the fake is entirely ceramic! Not a lick of plastic on my $100 fake moonswatch. Best of all . . . I can actually get one online.

Here in Indonesia Moonswatch 'clones' are also being sold online. Clone being a local seller euphemism for knock off. Amazingly, the price for the fake watch with box and papers is roughly the same as a genuine Moonswatch from the Swatch store.

So if the reports are true regarding Omega sales having slumped over the past two years, then this is a pretty good result all round. That said, I'm still not 100% convinced that the Moonswatch is a good long term move for Omega and it will be interesting to review Omega and Swatches position in a year or two, when the hype is removed from the equation completely

I can attest to the super sketchy way you have to get a moonswatch. I went in and just got to know one of the employees there. Started off by him complimenting my new balances. After a while of talking we got to talking abt the moonswatch and he brought me to a corner of the store and whispered that he wasn’t supposed to tell anyone, but the moonswatch i was interested was in stock. And then he stapled my bag shut so people wouldn’t try to look in or steal my watch

The only reason it’s still a hot topic is because there limited and hard to get once they are readily available no body gonna care.. if they keep going it’s going to be the most common watch u see on everybody’s wrist if they like watch’s or not.. then obviously people who like watch’s aren’t going to wear the most common watch in the world that’s not how it works.. good luck selling speedmasters in 2 years when everybody and there mother is wearing one.. ya iam going to pay thousands for a watch that’s looks the same as all the kids watch’s in school.. I guess it’s a new thing for them.. it’s like the people who won the lottery then go broke in a year

The watch market is so ridiculous. I’m not even a little surprised Swatch stores are now emulating Rolex AD selling practices. As for the ultra-thin battle I think it’s great in theory but is failing in execution. The RM is hideous, the Bulgari is gorgeous except for that goofy QR code that ruins the entire watch, and the Piaget is just flat out perfect except for the servicing cost since no one will touch it that doesn’t wear a Piaget lab coat. All 3 suffer from the servicing dilemma but I’m curious what it actually would cost, $5k? I want to see that exact Piaget made with a real case and reasonable thickness that would allow normal serving costs. I love the movement being the dial. FTR I cannot afford these ultra-thins and those who can won’t care how much the servicing costs. Winner: Piaget, even though it’s now the fattest of the 3.

Has RM ever made a watch that wasn’t completely hideous? It’s like they identified the worst watch trends of the late 90s/early 2000s and was like- yeah let’s make our identity the Limp Bizkit of horology.

True gems you can’t get by lining You get rations food by lining up among the hungers. The best food you need to search and pay premiums, lining up / waiting list is not a solution. Same with watches, when you have to line up for the Omega I know Omega has dived down to ration food category. And Omega buyers are people hunger for Rolex and can’t get it.

The VC skeleton takes 3 months for one person, to make the dial. That's where your money is going.

The fake one I bought on Ali was $37 incl shipping (Saturn for me). The hour on the stopwatch doesn’t work, it just follows the hour hand of the time. The case feels like metal. Colors are a bit different. Bit of an overpriced gift for my kids but $250 for something like this? F off.

I am of the opinión that people vote with their wallet. Therefore, the moonswatch is a tremendous success that is also impacting omega sales positively.
