@@TomyohannEven in season one they were cutting out entire characters and storylines. Alot of that stuff becomes more important in later books, so they were shooting themselves in the foot from the start. They just upgraded to automatic fire by the time of season 6+
They didn't ride dragons but they had magic in their blood like the valyrians, magic of the old gods because their line crossed with children of the forest, in books, all the starks are said to be wargs like brann, like rickon was too but not shown in the show

@silenz_178 Don't have to be King to wield Ice. In 50 AC, Lord Walton Stark used Ice to execute Ser Olyver Bracken, who had rebelled against the Night's Watch. Ilyn Payne even used Ice to behead Ned and he for sure wasn't King of the North.

You got the timelines mixed up. When vikings were raiding, England didn't even exist. It was petty saxon kingdoms like Mercia, Wessex, East anglia and Northumberland etc. "Crusades" wasn't even a concept.

Yeah I always thought why didn’t the Saxons ever retaliate and invade and attack the Vikings homeland? Also if anything they could have got the Pope to get other Christian countries together and launch a crusade against the Scandinavian/Viking countries.
I think this is what "Winter is coming."was supposed to mean. I just love the ancient Starks. A show titled "the Kings of Winter" would be something. I really wish George would expand the Northern lore. It's chalk full of incredible potential with all it's dark magic, legends and myths. From the children, corpse queens, the old wildlings, the winter kings, the wall, the weirwoods, Brandon the builder, the ever psychotic Boltons e.t.c.
I think its coming. I think he's been cooking up a lot of stuff. I'm curious to see if he adds some of the far east stuff, and deep ones to the main series. I also would love another world book. Based on past comments by him, it seems like he can write that type of stuff really fast. If he made a 1,000 page world book full of art, quotations by maesters or other witnesses, I feel like I could read that all day.
have you guys read all the novels? there so much lore chucked in there that it’ll take you multiple reads to really get all of it. i think he should just focus on finishing the current series before doing anything else but at this rate we’ll never see the last two books.
While potentially ruining your joke, I think the term used in that period/universe when a lord sends his child to get experience with another lord is called fostering.
@hotshootful There is a bit of a difference between fostering and squiring. Squiring often has to do with accompanying and being trained under a knight with the squire ultimately becoming a knight themselves. If I recall correctly, the very idea of knights in Westeros originates from the Andals, so in the case of Theon that doesn't work. Aegon the fifth was the squire of Ser Duncan the Tall for example. On the other hand, fostering is where a lord sends his child to be raised by a different lord in an attempt to build relations with this lord and teach their child about valuable life experiences away from their castle. The best example of this is Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon being fostered by Jon Arryn, this fostering ultimately formed the key trio of the alliance that ended the Targaryen dynasty so you could say it was very effective.

Even Ned Stark, who wasn't even known for being a badass or even much of a fighter, was well respected for his skills and his prowess in battle by knights like Ser Barristan Selmy. Selmy even told him, "I know of a dozen great knights you have cut down.." when Ned told him that he was glad that they never met each other in battle on the Trident. The Starks have always been known as a one of the most formidable of the great houses.

The starks were brutal to their enemies and actually good to their subjects. Which is why the North is so loyal to the Starks, they were rarely given a reason to rebel and even they did they were too afraid to go against the Starks. Except the Boltons ofc

Sansa survived in King's Landing for years while the rest of her family was in open rebellion, then she outwitted the master manipulator Petyr Baelish to form a union between the Vale and The North to win back Winterfell from the Boltons - Jon might've led the charge at TBotB, but Sansa won the battle Then she kept her people safe during the (not so) Long Night and secured the northern independence her brother had campaigned for for years in a single conversation Put some respect on her name, the show might've ended horribly but she was one of the few winners and she won fighting for The North
well tbh the books still remain so lets hope thats not the canon ending, tbh ned ruined it all because he was an arryn through and through, not a stark. starks were nevery about honor, they werent as treacherous as tywin etc but they werent angels themselves they were ruthless, brutal, r@apists (forcefully married the daughters of fallen kings, for example the king of the moat' daughters to get the greenseer/wargning abilities in the stark bloodline).

Not just that, he also invaded three sisters, biggest vale islands. Then he landed an army on fingers to ivade there too lmao this guy is a menance. He also let boltons flaye the skins of sistermen to threathen them. Boltons and Stark relations were closest to each other in Theon Stark's rule

People forget that the noble warrior Eddard Stark was still a warrior, they like to talk shit that he lost his head cos he was a fool but he was just unfortunate and betrayed by everyone around him. Despite all the Ls they took throughout the series, its still the Starks who were badasses, Ned, Robb, Arya, Jon.
