You legitimately make the best videos about college football on the platform because you highlight all of the little things that make CFB so amazing to be a fan of. I knew that Hawaii and Fresno State were rivals, but never the depth or the stories that went along with it. The emotions of this game are amazing. Lastly, RIP Colt Brennan. Always was a big fan of his since we shared a name and it’s sad to see him leave us.
Dude you are absolutely incredible at what you do. I’m from the 209 (area code north of Fresno.. consists of Stockton/Modesto) and not only did you get me invested in this rivalry but you perfectly described the mentality of the people of Californias Central Valley and our football team the bulldogs in less than 30 seconds… you are going to be massive one day
@@bulldogsbob no I said “our football team” because it’s the only D1 football program in the valley. When someone asks who I’m a fan of I say Fresno but I’ve never been much involved with college sports
Speaking of the Sam jouaqin valley, another team in the valley was the pacific tigers, who ended there program in 1995. They did have a few notable people though, like Pete Carrol.
Great, great documentary! The WAC was always exciting, I'll forever remember it for the late-Saturday nightcap shootouts, and I think some of its spirit lives on with its original teams in the Mountain West today. I like that you covered the other Fresno State loss of the 2001 season here, as what many consider the big historical WAC game from that year was what happened the week prior, when Fresno lost with a top-ten ranking at home to Boise State, in the game that served as a harbinger for the BSU program's upward trajectory over the 2000s. If Fresno hadn't lost those two games (especially given how the season shook out for all the non-Miami top-teams down the stretch), they would've had an outside shot at the national championship.
We need to get this man to 30k by the end of the year fellas. His content is too good for him to only have 8.18k. Share his videos, make sure your college football friends see them. His stuff is just way too interesting.
A great video as always! Just want to point out something though. UNM was not in the WAC in 2010 with NMSU as UNM is a founding member of the Mountain West. A video on UNM NMSU would be good too!
Fantastic video... extremely well researched and presented. A big MAHALO from the Islands! And yes, the rivalry with the Bulldogs will continue. Timmy Chang has the Warrior program on a slow but steady rebuilding path, recruiting has been going well despite the stadium situation, and things look promising for the long run.
I had a coworker before covid who said something about wanting to move to Fresno some day, which seems like a random destination to move across the country for, but I think she said she had friends in Fresno, unlike the Hawaii (Rainbow) Warriors.
As my dad supported Fresno St I would love looking forward to Fresno St playing Hawaii, it was always an amazing game. It made me forget about the horrible losses to Boise St every year in mid 2000's and early 2010s. These games were always interesting.
I have a hilarious story about the 2008 game. I was waiting tables at Fresno red lobster the night before the game. 2 parents, their son and his GF sit in my section. The guy was small, like 5’8” 160. They asked what I had heard about the Hawaii team and I quoted an ESPN article about their QB struggling. The GF burst out laughing. The young man at the table was Inoke Funaki. I was embarrassed but the family was kind to me about it. The next night the rainbows stunned a ranked Fresno state team 🤮
Nice video. I'll add when their TV announcer Kekaula(rip) called Fresno the armpit of California as he was signing off air in 2014 and then apologized for it.
Speaking of Hawaii, I think a video discussing Todd Graham's infamous coaching tenure would be a great video topic. Dude managed to turn the school into a reverse Deion Sanders Colorado situation by making everybody jump in the transfer portal like it was a wormhole to another dimension. It takes real skill to be that much of a prick lol
Haha I seen Volek on the back of a jersey. I was like Billy Volek? Googled him and yup it was him. I am a Titans fan and he played for my team in the early 2000s.
Hawaii, the team that marred what would have been a perfect 1985 season for the Dogs. Ive loathed them ever since. But not as much as Boise who had absolutely owned us.
Yup Hawaii vs Fresno State was a rivalry, Fresno State pissed on airplanes. I’ll talk shit about Hawaii then the two players got their ass beating up in Jack-in-the-Box and now they had to stay at turtle bay. The coach was an asshole.Hawaii rainbow warriors do lyfe
