Hi Alyn, I'm Wenqin. Today marks almost two years since we met under the starry night sky in Arches National Park. I am very shocked and saddened to know that you are no longer with us. After our encounter, I have traveled to many beautiful places with shining stars, which I would love to share with you if given the chance. Still, the incredible time we spent together under the Milky Way near Delicate Arch is an irreplaceable experience for me. Life is so transient, finite, and fragile. I hope your beloved stars will be with you forever. RIP Alyn

You, your spirit and your passion for astrophotography are missed Alyn! I came back to re-watch this for inspiration. It was prophetic what you said near the 11-minute mark..."there's just no time"...not knowing...none of us knowing just how true the statement was. I know you're seeing the heavens from a different perspective now and forever will have clear skies! RIP.

Amazing images you captured there, glad you got your shot you wanted, sometimes composites are a necessary, esp if the likelihood of returning to the location is non existent. I get that it's more satisfying to get it for real, but for some a composite might be a necessity

You are a legend Alyn. Every shot in this video is breath-takingly inspirational. Thank-you for posting your camera lenses and setting, that is invaluable information, but your compositions are what is irreplaceable. As a fan I'm thrilled to hear of your Masterclass. Do you ever do any deep sky stuff are are you just leaving that to JWST? Just saying because when you have that eye for composition there is hardly any competition. If you are ever in South East Asia doing a shoot let me know cause I'm based in Vietnam and would love to see a master at work.

You are so capable. Traveling doesn't daunt you. I hope lots of folks are endured with the talent that you are. Ah, but the second shot of delicate arch you look a little Alien. Sort of Alyn. When you bailed on the petroglyphs I was, why?! So glad you stuck with it. I keep wanting to get a shot of a falls in Arizona. Do you know how difficult that is? It's a desert. But it's been a rainy summer for us(after five yrs. of drought) I've tried and failed twice and it really sucked a lot and was tough (I'm an OG). But we have a another out-of-the-blue storm coming in tomorrow p.m. So after work I intend make the treck once again. Alyn isn't really my inspiration; I was going to do it anyway, but damn. There are people who love crappy weather, I'm one of them That's nothing to do with astronomy.

Agree about composite/dreamscapes. The reason I'm loving astrophotography and deepscapes specifically right now over landscapes is chasing the alignments is so much more challenging and rewarding than just sunrise/sunset. To just waste all of that by pasting in an unearnt sky...it just doesn't feel satisfying. Even better when you can express how you felt taking a shot in the final result. Composites just don't have that. I liked the Delicate arch shots but the 50mm had the emotional resonance. That's my favourite from this vlog

Spent two weeks in Moab summer of 2021. The temps during the day were very hot, but at night were perfectly comfortable with nothing more than shorts and a t-shirt. I took astrophotography shots in many of the same locations. Even have the same composition of the twisted tree at balance rock. For me the experience of taking pictures in such an iconic location with barely anyone around was incredibly peaceful and satisfying. Delicate Arch at night was busier for me with about a dozen photographers getting night shots. The numbers dwindled deeper into the night. Outstanding work and love your videos.

Awesome video and thrilled to see your Petroglyph's image. Loved the Double Arch pano. Did you hear the bats flying around at Double Arch? I concur with your sentiments about simply replacing a cloudy sky with a MW image. I captured Mesa Arch during a partially cloudy night sky. I showed the image to a few people in the Moab area and they all enjoyed seeing the stars peeking through the clouds.

Awesome thanks Alyn. Great tip about using the same settings for the focus stacking as you use for the sky. Did the auto stack Photoshop function work or did you have to manually do it? The tree / branch in the foreground would have been tricky to mask I'd imagine.

Awesome video as always!!! Your comment on composites is well taken :-) BUT, and I am serious here, what are your feelings on situation where, even with great planning, the weather didn't cooperate or there were 20 people at an arch and you just can't get a decent foreground let alone a 5 panel milky way arch but its the only night in your life that you will be there? Is some kind of composite (maybe you had to move to the parking lot to get your milky way shot to add to your foreground but both are still taken on the same night) or maybe you did have to come back the next night cause of weather cause you will never be there again. Anyways, just curious because I think it impacts the majority of us that may only get to go to cool iconic places once in a life time or every few years? Do you think any sort of compromise is reasonable? If the answer is no, that's ok too :-) And, of course, either way, it needs to be called out when posting but maybe not looked down upon? Cheers, and again, I think its a great conversation to have :-) Keep up the great work!!! BTW, for the record, since I do get out more than once a month for the most part I am able to get the shot most of the time (same night same spot not moving my tripod) but because this hobby is getting more and more popular (thanks to Great, Inspiring folks like you!), some of places are getting more and more crowded and I have had to shoot the milky way from the parking lot :-0

Thanks Chris! I tend to stay away from such busy shots but if I do get sucked in I will just accept the disappointment because it makes the successes feel much greater. Hi Alyn, nice, very nice and epic shots. Amazing really. Just a question, it’s not clear for me how you make the landscape panels for the last shot (for exemple), you stacked them for the depth of field because you’ve only one for the sky or do you mean to have more foreground in the final picture ? Sorry but didn’t receive your book yet and I’m very eager to put my hands on it (in Italy till the start of november and maybe it arrived already n Belgium by now…). Friendly greetings.
