Grant, you are a great teacher. I'm 57 and have been playing golf since I was 12. I've never heard anyone explain the wrist position so clearly. Your Dad was right when he said the great teachers make it simple. I rarely comment but I am truly impressed.

Oh my Grant of destiny, I am a 12 HCP who usually floats around the mid to low 80s on a good day. I watched this video last night and went into todays round with only one swing thought, to keep my wrist flat, i just broke 80 today for the first time on a par 72 course. 78 off the stick thanks to this video. You are the real MVP Grant.

Nobody wants to fix this, but it’s sooooo important. It’s the true secret to crisp, straight iron play. Your iron shots will be so compressed, that you will actually hear a different sound than you’re probably used to hearing. You’ll hear the ball “hiss” when it comes off the face. One key thing it does is put the grip slightly ahead of the club head through impact. If you don’t believe me, set up to the ball, then bow your left wrist. Now, look what a perfect impact position you’re in. It’s like magic. He also touched on how it shallows the shaft, at the top. Just like he said…. This keeps the shaft more behind you, and allows you to turn through the ball. It’s refreshing to see someone address this true secret to irons. Great video, Grant.

I started bowing my wrist on my drive. Used to be slicer. Now if I miss it's a hook. Most the time it goes 250-270 with minimal effort. If I really try to smash it it can get to 300 with less accuracy. The bowed wrist is key if you're slicing try it out. Great lesson bud.

This was great Grant. I've been working on it and find a tight wristband on the top wrist can help build the muscle memory as I'm working to flatten it out. Been cupping somewhat for a long, long time and was hitting more and more toe shots and pushes over time. Flattening the wrist has really improved my contact and ball flight, so thank you sir.

I took this to the range yesterday and it's completely transformed my swing. This may be the best tip I've ever gotten, b/c it really ties the downswing together. I would always stand up on the ball and could never really figure out why... now that my wrist is flat, I'm able to turn through the ball instead of flicking at it.

Wow, after years of being told the wrist should be flat at the top of the backswing you are the first person to explain that if you have a strong grip its ok to have a little extension at the top of the backswing. I have had countless lessons by different coaches and they all said the wrist should be flat which never felt right. I have been out and tested your advice and its made a world of difference it feels right and my shots are suddenly great and more consistent. I’m a 67 year old male who is hitting the ball better than ever after 2 practice sessions I hit a 7 iron about 165 yards with no effort now I am not trying to flatten my wrist at the top of the backswing. Thanks for this and your other videos they are entertaining and great advice.

I'm a bowed wrist hitter. This works well and seems to give me more power. But the more I move ball forward (woods/driver) the more I pull the shot. I think this is shoulder alignment issue. When the ball is forward in my stance, it seems to pull my shoulders left at address. A good video on how to setup/align when hitting woods and driver.

The example you gave with Mickelson shows him with a flat vs. cupped wrist. He is steep, but the dude is like 6'4". He is really tall. I think he too plays with a flat wrist. Maybe John Daly or Fred Couples are better examples of players who cup their wrists. All said. I think your instincts about wanting a flat or bowed wrist are spot on.

I would love it if Grant would make a video teaching us how to hit a draw / cut. I hit 90% of my shots dead straight, unless I miss hit, and that's great for staying out of trouble but it makes holes that fade or turn to the left or right very difficult for me because I have to play shorter shots up to the point where they turn or try to hit it long enough to go over the turn since I hit it so straight.
@jamiesloan7259
@jamiesloan7259 2 года назад
It takes experimentation, my friend. The simple answer is path, and face. However, people will “feel” different things. For me…. I feel like I’m swinging “flatter” when hitting the draw, with a slightly stronger grip. The flatter swing allows me to approach the ball more from the inside. The fade is just the opposite feeling for me. I’ll feel like I’m swinging steeper, with a slightly weaker grip. Also, experiment with ball position…. I play it slightly back in my stance, for the draw, and slightly forward, for the fade. I also feel like I’m set up a little closer to the ball, for the fade. This helps me approach the ball more from out to in, and makes it easier to swing a little steeper. Just the opposite for the draw…. Slightly further from the ball, at setup, to help approach it more from inside/out. These are all very slight changes that you just have to play with, until you get it dialed in. Hope this helps…..
@richardziolkowski7246

The best thing to do is keep it simple. make your normal swing but open your stance for a fade and close your stance for a draw.

One thing that helps me (i usually hit straight just like you) is my back foot, being my right foot with me being right handed, is i move that foot back a bit and open my stance to help it feel im swinging steeper. Opposite for a draw. It's amazing how much your starting stance can effect your flight
