I love Pete, I love his tips. I use tall rescue and he's always on point. I didn't follow his steps this year and my lawn looks terrible. I'm a Pete disciple and will always follow his lead.

Google Earth to me is the easiest way to measure square footage. Allows for tracing out the actual turf and nothing else. I double checked it with a square area of my yard and was spot on. I have a total square footage but also have the yard broken out into sections if needed. I tend to use the section option in spring when gathering my soil samples.

When I started doing my own lawn care many years back (may be 25 years), I first measured the lawn size by drawing the house plan and breaking down the lawn into smaller squares, rectangles, triangles and then doing the math and coming up with the total lawn size. Very true, you must know the lawn size and Pete is right, many homeowners may not know it.

Wow, your property is really beautiful! Your lawn looks amazing. I completely agree with you about the importance of square footage and sprayer calibration. I spray over a dozen lawns a day, and products aren't cheap. I always try to use the minimum amount of carrier and be as efficient as possible with most applications. This has saved me a lot of money over the years.

Thank You Sir Pete. I have 1,200 sq ft of turf, I’ve always known that. But I do round down to 1,000 sq ft to make it easier for me. So my spraying and granular application rates are much easier to handle. Thank You for your Very Helpful Videos. You have helped me immensely on getting my turf into its current shape over the years. I have Beranbrug RPR and RTF turf and its HOC is 5/8” and very tall. Reel mowed with a John Deere 220A greens mower, I’m just north of Boston.

I measured mine guessing with google, Google Earth I found to be accurate but I can't see a lot of my yard because of trees so I just estimated the distances of where the bedded areas are. I'm gonna have to play with my measuring wheel now to compare and get more accurate measurements. Knowing the right square footage is also helpful to checking your calibration because you already know how much product to put down. I like checking how accurate my application was based on my lawn size but have some areas in question because I couldn't see it on Google Earth and I think is making some of my applications off so I'm going to go manually measure it now!

You know The Lawn Care Nut recommends breaking the yard up in areas. I see advantages on both ways. For example I know I have approximately 10,000 square feet of lawn. 3300 in the front and 6700 in the back. 2 areas. I spray different days due to my heart condition.

Pete, if a customer comes into your store and doesn't know the sq footage of his yard, it should be pretty easy to use an online tool (those that uses satellite photos) to give the customer a rough estimate of his lawn size. It wouldn't be perfect but you can tell the customer this and that he should go measure it for a more accurate size but it'll be better than telling him you can't help him. 🙂
@GCITurf
@GCITurf Месяц назад
you are totally missing the point. 1 - I never have and never will tell a customer i cant help them... never. i was trying to drive home a point. 2 - i know, realize, and use software to measure area. I do it every day all day long. nut learn how to do it old school so you know how to do it old school. 3 - the point of the video is to get people to measure their own yard and not depend on me to do it for them. Lawncare basics, if a person cant do that then they probably wont be able to have nice turf

The problem I see with having a nice yard is it is a bank drainer. You get no return on your money for having a nice yard unless you’re a RU-vidr like Pete, Ryan Knorr, etc. All the fertilizer, water, seed constantly needed costs so much.
