My only thoughts are the deep voiced guy doing narration, should not get a job in narration. Its kind of atrocious how hard he is to understand and it really just puts me off the whole video when I can't just listen along. Friend or high rolling patron, he should not be doing voice overs with a voice that has no clarity, it sounds like he has a bag of marshmallows caught in his throat, especially when your voice is so clearly qualified at this already.

He’s a friend who I met on radio. Personally I don’t find him difficult to listen to, but that might be because we share an accent and/or I’ve known him for a couple of years. Sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy his narration, however, if you don’t mind, I would like to know why it “put you off the whole video”. I’ve attempted to foresee people not liking the narration segments by putting in timestamps to skip them and having the entire passage written out on-screen so people can read it themselves. If there are any other features you can recommend to address this problem, I’d very much appreciate it if you would share them with me.

Tasmania being talked about by a RU-vidr? Never thought I'd see the day.

@@CloudCuckooCountry I've only ever heard of that as a joke between me and a few other Australian friends, but I have no doubt some people are serious about it.

I found you through shammys old recommendation videos after just having a full week of creative writing in school and finding my way into writing and reading I am 15 now and started writing my own stories and re reading all the books I've read before but in a different manner. I absolutely love your videos and they are verry inspirational and entertaining and helpful. keep up the great work. I think your videos should get more attention

The way you described the structure of the book in the beginning reminded me of “A Visit from the Goon Squad”

This reminds me of a book titled "4321" by Paul Auster, although I do not know if I would consider Paul's work "polyphonic" since the narrators are just different versions of the main character in alternate timelines. Anyway, this got me interested in reading Robbie's story. Keep doing what you're doing!

Just finished a book by Claire North titled "The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August" and while it does like to wax philosophical about responsibility as a discount immortal, it made me think of your "Life After Life" review and how the former does reliving the protagonists lives sooooo much better. Maybe consider checking it out?

I'm in college for English with a minor in creative writing and I find that self expression is key to having your work stand out whilst using the tools of your medium (aka writing in this case). I'll defiantly check this book out when I can have the money to do so. I absolutely love this stuff and the bits of the interview were wonderful additions! Is the full thing available?

I just need to say this... I almost never read. As in the classic "pick up a book, and go through it". Despite many attempts, the medium has largely lost much of its spark for me. I'm far more of a visual thinker, and my tastes seem to follow that trend. And despite all that, its through folks like you, and your channel, that I can feel a deep sense of appreciation for the medium anyway. Even if its a 2nd hand window I end up looking through. So if you read this, thank you. For the laughs as well as the genuine educating in literary story telling. Its genuinely enriching. I mean hey, its drops that end up forming an ocean regardless right?

Amazing video as always dude. I must say I've always been a fan of your work ever since the first book burning video you did. As a person that's struggling to rediscover his drive to create stories ever since my early teenage years, I find looking at book critiques such as yours to be good tutors on strategies to employ in the future. And I must say, seeing a GOOD piece of literature being shown through your critique is a pleasant change of pace. That being said, I do have a question for you, and well, I really hate to be "that guy." The one who brings up a topic not really related to the video in question, but being someone who enjoys your content and critique, I recently noticed that the streams you did with friends, looking over book samples and having a fun time picking apart the silly writing styles of some of them.....all of them are gone. Is their disappearance intentional on your part? Do you not plan to reupload them or do more streams like them in the future?
@CloudCuckooCountry

Thanks very much for your kind feedback. I appreciate your thoughts. I’ve not been happy with how my stream formats turn out, and I’m also not happy with them sitting on my main channel in the same place as my regular videos. If they end up returning, I’ll see if I can’t do them on twitch or a separate streaming account or something.

I have been waiting for this video and it did not disappoint, definitely putting this on my to read list. Also, Arnott has good taste in authors and it was cool of you to interview him (side not somebody leaking fire seems alright to me, but then again I like fantastical fiction in general so I might just be use to it). BTW do you have the right editor link because the link goes to napsy, but it says it was editing by dalero?

The only book I have experience with that swaps narrator is "Witch and Wizard." Yup. Forgotten YA fiction. Two main characters and every chapter swaps between them as the narrator. As far as I remember. I never finished it. All I really remember is it was weird and the girl was much quippier than her brother. It was too slow to get to the magic for me. Maybe now that I'm not in middle school anymore I can give grown-up novels like this a try.
