buffing SDI across the board isn't only important for multi-hit moves. SDI is also insanely important for getting out of falco's upthrow followups and making it so shine or even uptilt don't hit/combo after dair before it knocks down. SDI has been crucial to upsetting falco's punish for years, and unlike fox, he doesn't really have an answer for it. this is also a falco nerf, and i'd argue it might be bigger than the fox nerf.

honestly buffing rtc and nerfing spacie (especially falco) combos sound like it could be making the game lamer buuuut removing what is basically RNG eating controller inputs makes the game less frustrating. idk how we could get the best of both hmmmmmmmm

@@samobrien815 i think part of the problem is with trying to "buff" GCC sdi to match box controller SDI when that might not be the smartest thing to do considering how much that changes the balance of the game i sort of wonder if there was a 3rd party controller that let you hold an analog direction for guaranteed max SDI inputs on all frames, would we then try to buff every other controller to match that capability or would we okay with admitting that that is busted and it breaks the game?

how does mang0 combo wizzrobe then? if consistant sdi is soo bad for falco... upthrow was never used for true followups there is an answer for getting sdi'd out of pillar combos, with dash jc shine making hardware consistant through software is always good, and spacies can still push the meta anyway - sincerely, a falco player

@@Gabriel-sd1oh "upthrow was never used for true followups" nobody cares if they're true or not, this is melee. without consistent SDI on upthrow it's a 50-50 to get a real followup and that's a big deal. you already don't sound like a falco player lol "how does mang0 combo wizzrobe then?" probably by being the greatest falco of all time and having to mix wizzrobe's DI up an insane amount while also having dropped sets to him...? i don't know why you thought this was a gotcha. sounding more like someone who switches to falco after getting bodied and laser spams before RQing - that's not a falco player "there is an answer for getting sdi'd out of pillar combos, with dash jc shine" doing this consistently on reaction to SDI is damn near impossible (requires reading SDI with human reaction time) and if you try to dash JC shine someone who didn't SDI the dair you'll probably miss. consistent SDI, ESPECIALLY with cardinal 1.0, will make pillars little better than a 50/50. if you don't understand this then you aren't playing anybody who knows how to SDI pillars "making hardware consistant through software is always good" consistent with what? that's the whole point, consistent with what? giving everyone 100/100 free 1.0 cardinal SDI is a drastic change, and it's what, all in the name of not needing to nerf the box? fuck that. adopting a significant change to the game and thereby game balance in order to catch up to a 3rd party controller that should never have been allowed in its current state... sounds like a great way to kill the game.

words just cant describe the amount of appreciation i have for this man. thank you Hax$ for all of the time and dedication you've put into this game. 1.03 feels amazing and my combo game for every character i use almost never misses an input unless i mess it up. 1.03 needs to become standard

looking forward to more development in the 1.03 submetas. This would likely nerf the jab reset as more people sdi (or roll). What would it do to Falco's lasers and, good lord, what would it do for Wizzrobe?

I think you should’ve been a little more thorough in the end, hax. It’s not like you’re deliberately nerfing fox, it’s just that faulty game mechanics that benefit fox are being taken away and made fair.

@@tenslein8977 but he didn't mention that he specifically made changes to help Fox do frame 6 ledge dash, a fix not targeting any other character. 1.03 has more fixes than just SDI and he knowingly omitted that as a misleading way to counter people mentioning Fox getting buffed.

@@tenslein8977 right but his current behavior is much like a politician. He's deliberately putting this video out as propaganda. I'm all for 1.03 but this video just rubs me the wrong way. He also unfortunately doesn't seem to take any input from people with other mains. I recall seeing a top comment on one of his posts on /r/SSBM how Samus has a polling-based issue that makes her tech to get from ledge to stage RNG-based (I forget the name for it). It could be fixed with a similar fix but it doesn't seem like other characters were considered much. I believe ICs have some desync stuff that is polling-based as well.

@@hounvs ​Firstly, the ledgedash thing you're talking about has nothing to do with 1.03 AT ALL. What you're talking about is a b0xx angle that lets you drop from ledge without fastfalling or holding back. He has made a video about it, he's not hiding it... Second, 1.03 controller fix is centered on universal issues. All of 1.03's fixes apply to all characters. Changing the way the game polls your controller based on what character you're playing is really fucking stupid.

I think Normal_Punch is trying to say these characters multihit moves are even more important to their kit than Fox's D-Air. Samus' Up-B, Peach's D-Air, Doc's D-Air & Up-B. Those will be nerfed as well and they're quintessential to the characters in way that Fox's D-Air isn't. I think... That's not what I'm saying, I just think that's what Normal_Punch is saying. I definitely agree for Doc and Samus tho.

@@HighDeafRadio Zelda's moves are already very easy to SDI out of. Her upsmash and fsmash, I SDI out of those every time. Also, mario and doc definitely wouldn't be hurt much by this SDI fix. dair and up b? quintessential? wtf are you talking about? Peach's dair is also very easy to SDI. Also this idiot said "quintessential to the characters in [a] way that Fox's D-Air isn't" fox dair is SUPER ESSENTIAL to fox. So just overall a terrible comment, and your possible explanation is also bad.

Maybe you should look in to equalising the difference between the ports and remove port priority.

Agreed. Having port priority situations be decided by RNG, or RNG the first time and then it just switches back and forth, or something similar, seems like it could be implemented and remove this annoying part of the game. The way port priority affects up throws could just straight up be patched out as far as I can reason (I don't understand why that one exists in the first place).

I would say. Same frame grabs should clank, ledge grab both should get thrown off with the ledge invincibility and the knock back stun should just not be any difference between the ports.

Iirc you couldn't SDI >1% hits in 1.0. So multi hit moves were deliberately NERFED by Sakurai

i hold opinions like this, but i've come to realize that the majority of the competitive melee community seems to be on a page where they can accept that the game was designed to be one way, but we the competitors would rather make it another way for the sake of our competition. it isn't the original game anymore, but we'll still call it melee. it's inevitable.

Honestly think we whould make multi hits work like they did in earlier versions of melee. I thinkots fine to make sdi more consistent but we've already nerfed most multi hit moves so that they don't work like they're supposed to. Why make it worse?

It's the reason why Zelda is even worse with the multihit changes to earlier versions of melee. Honestly this whole multihit nerf for fox does nothing because he can still shine out of shine and has other combos beyond drill and shine. It's not really a nerf at all

Timing it is not always possible, and spacing horizontally/vertically to hit it is very difficult. So if they’re mixing up their DI, the drift to hit it is always going to be slightly different, and you have to choose whether to dash into jump, short hop full drift, etc. and some of those option just won’t let you second hit.

Fox loses to himself by messing up his tech. It's all way too hard. Pretty good NERF already if you ask me. I don't care where other characters struggle, nothing ever comes close to what a Fox has to do on the controller. Hey it's easy you can do combos too. Just chaingrab Falco it can't be that hard right? Just powershied the lasers, easy. Just kinda manage to nail that stuff all the time and then you win. I'm really tired of this shit. Fox isn't S Tier and Fox doesn't win. Not in real life anway.

@@WhatAreColors Yes, and we always choose to do it. Because we like the character and we love playing fast and agressive, that is what melee is to us. Others likes to play the game differently, and has to practice differently to get different things done. I don't feel like "we have to practice 10 times as much", within that practice there should always be the awareness that yes, we've to be cracked to press all that buttons so fast and precisely, but that can always be outplayed by a simple stomp knee, and from experience, if you focus your mindset to it so much like that, this (simple strat or approach like stomp knee) will happen to you more and you'll loose more to it.

Out of curiosity, how long have you been playing the game? Fox is the most challenging at first because of the tech skill. But after you get over learning the tech and combos fox becomes one of the easier characters because of all the favorable MU''s. After you get used to the tech you'll become very consistent with it and it won't be that much of struggle anymore
