So happy to see that the coach you used for this video is the exact Revolution that I have!! Even the same color but mine is a 2006. It is one of the very few RVs that I see having a compartment especially for filters ( and side radiator in my case as well). Very cool feature. Good point and I promise I will replace it one of these days. What I do every couple of months is to drain the tanks as per manual instructions.
I've watched so many "how to" videos for RV's, but I keep coming back you yours. You make learning things fun. And I've heard you apologize for ranting, but I actually love the ranting and learn a lot from it.
Thanks for this important maintenance tip. Back in my refinery days, I would have these installed on bulk oil tanks for machinery. During the day to night temperatures, air would move in and out through the tank desiccant breather. The desiccant breathers were water logged after six months.
So very well explained. Thank You, now I'm beginning to sort out all the 4 or 5 filters. So much easier when you understand why. Air brakes, chassis air, requires annual change of this chassis air filter to filter and dry out the air with a dessicant.
I changed out my Haldex Air Filter yesterday on my Foretravel and it was on so tight, I broke my filter strap in the process. Had to get another filter wrench and it finally broke loose. Someone did not oil the gasket before installing it. As you know, Haldex filters are a little more involved with what is necessary to change them out and you might want to do a video on those as well. Just a thought! Thanks for all the great videos you put out there!
Thank you so much for the videos you do! Finally got class a 2018 Miranda 29fw and it is overwhelming how much goes into these. Your videos are very informative, funny and enjoyable! Thank you!
This is the same coach I have. I changed the oil and filter but now I want to change out all of the filter in that door. Thanks for this video. That filter is the most expensive out of them all.
Thanks for the reminder! I had mine changed the last time I was in at Freighliner, having them put a new Serpentine belt on (which I carry the old one as a spare now). I didn't know if the belt had ever been changed, so felt more confident with having a new one on there. Probably been two years now on the filter, so something I may change this time around.
Hey -- you really present your content in an enjoyable manner. Its just interesting even if the content has nothing to do with my RV. I would have loved to see you take an angle grinder to that filter to just show the inside! Thank you! Mike
Since there are those filters not changed on motor coaches. Can say there is still one more filter but is on the Cummins engine. It’s called a crankcase breather filter on top of the valve cover. As a mechanic for an electric utility,we changed air dryer and crankcase filters every 2 years or biannually.
What you need to look for is when you are driving/using your coach drain the air system about once a week and if you get any moisture it's time to change the desiccant filter. Most coaches don't get driven enough to warrant changing the filter on any schedule, just drain your air and see if you get any moisture out. I've put 70K on my 06 Patriot Thunder and the air system is dry as a bone, changed the filter when I bought it back in 13.
Nice review on easy job. I would like to know Approximate filter cost? Also would be great to discuss the other filters in that area. What are they ? How often you need to change? Thanks
Do you go through and drain all the tanks as well when you do this? That's also a very overlooked maintenance item that needs to be done more often than the filter. Great tip for those unaware that this filter even needs to be changed. As I said though draining tanks can be equally important. As a retired Owner Operator it was something I made sure to do periodically and the frequency depended on where I was driving but I'd never go more than every three months without draining the tanks. Even with a good dryer systems you'd be surprised at how quickly some tanks can accumulate a good bit of water in them which can of course cause them to rust/corrode...
Have you ever done a oil change service for a 370 diesel Cummings engine. And also any other filters or services that need to be done to the motorhome. This is a 2004 Newmar Dutch star, Spartan chassis
Bolt it on might be different there is5 types of air dryers that one his showing it's call spin on Air dryer it's the easiest one to replace might be located underneath or in the rear bumper or side compartment if yours has 9 bolts in the bottom it will be one it's called D9
So I have this same RV, I’ve had it for one year, because of this video I changed that air dryer as soon as I bought this rv. Now, it takes forever to build air pressure. I noticed I’m losing air right under the air dryer. Looks like it’s some kind of rebuildable blow off valve that gets stuck open? Have you ever rebuilt one?
I have a Detroit 60 Series in our Monaco and haven't changed mine in the 3 years we've owned it. I do periodically though open the air and let the tanks blow out. The previous owner said as long as not water/moisture comes out the filter is working and not to worry about it. BYW, I've never seen a strap wrench like the one you used. Where did you find it? I would like to get one. Mike
@@AZExpert oh when my rig needs a roof you will be the one that does it...and I live in Washington state....i just might ruin it so the wife can't give me crap.....lol
@@theodorehyatt1782 - didn’t know that. I will say that I have been using it for 30+ years without noticing any oil filter, valve cover or other gaskets being degraded or eaten.
Help! My filter is a GRAU Midland-C and the NAPA filter you use in your video doesn’t match mine and my local NAPA store couldn’t find anything in their system to match mine. Do you have a source I can check?
There is 5 different types of air dryers I be more than Happy to help you sir I'm an RV mechanic I do it for living if you will show me a picture of it I can tell you exactly which one it is and even the part number for it thank you
I clicked on the video to see if I was right about which filter...I WAS!! As a truck driver I can tell you it's frightening how seldom tricks change theirs!! If you spend any time in the south, AT LEAST ANNUALLY change it!
@@AZExpert TECHNICALLY, you' SHOULD evacuate all air tanks nightly, as well. GALLONS of water rotting the tanks out, over the years The fact that high end convertos use air doors kind of makes that not feasible. But I guess they figure if you can spend $2M on an RV, what's $50k for new tanks and lines ever now and then? LOL
@@AZExpert THANK YOU..ONE OTHER ITEM. I JUST FOUND THE COOLENT CAN. LOOKS LIKE IT HAS NEVER BEEN CHANGED, I DID KNOW IT WAS THERE. COVERED WITH FOAM...I KNOW, START READING THINGS..ANYWAY, CANT BUDGE IT. CAN I SHUT THE VALVE OFF AND TEAR INTO IT?
I don't think owners are totally aware how important air brake testing and inspections are. I know that's not what you do, but those air lines/fittings have to be inspected and checked all the time for cracks and leaks. they take real abuse with snow and salt. check those brakes!
