The most overly complicated Guilty Gear Strive character (Asuka R# reaction) 

His basically a copy of invoker from dota

i wont lie...he is not gonna be hard at all when he comes out and people just LEARN his moves. the fact you get a free deck set up by doing DD (p,k,s) you even have a SUPER that allows you to choice a general layout. he has good normals that can control neutral so he can zone or be aggressive. Once people find out a basic layout the difficulty of this character will drop...but in its own way higher because he allows people to go crazy if they master him. but on its own its far from hard for most season fighting game players

⁠​⁠@@The_WIll_OF_D99 Pretty much the story with strive, all characters are capable of playing that at any level but they all have a much higher ceiling. However, Asuka is extremely resource heavy similar to Happy Chaos which many agree is too difficult to play without exhausting your fingers on ALL levels. Asuka is taking care of practically 3 mechanics along with having to understand how all spells work distinctively and cohesively. This not only makes it hard for the player but the opponent. Just because he has easy inputs it will not make him straight forward, but a flow chart pathway to the best spells is inevitable. But how will he even set them up in a game known for having midrange monsters? And who’s not to say the flow chart can be easily exposed by the opponent? Nagoriyuki was considered bad in the first yearly quarter of the games release and then shot up to top 1 (until inevitable nerfs) because of his own mechanics looking as a hinderance to become the most powerful thing in the game. He maybe consider “easy” on offense and neutral but his defense, mobility, and meter is what really needs to be taken account when playing him.

i mean what makes Zappa Broken is the sword not so much the other stuff. the big ghost is supposed to be his win con but the second he gets the sword is actually over lol. all of his stuff is RNG and the fact he can always reroll on his own or if he gets hit lol if you look at everythign he is hard but the fact 1 thing is the BEST means any time they get it you just lose. they can be half decent with the others but when they get the golden ticket you have a worse time. god forbit they know and master the charcter fully XD

thing is will people care with 3 top tear fighting games coming out this year strive is getting pushed more and more to the wayside for street fighter mortal kombat and t8 gg was always a nich fighter that never caught the masses

@@Dragonborn1178 Strive has propelled Guilty Gear into the mainstream, both in terms of sales and competition. While it doesn't have the sales numbers like SF or MK, it is still a huge success. Competitively, it has dominated the tournament scene since its arrival, having the most entrances in every major tournament and being the first anime fighter to ever headline EVO. This year, it remains the second most entered game after SF6. SF6, MK1, and Tekken 8 will outsell it, and SF6 will likely dominate the tournament scene. However, MK is not a factor in the competitive scene, and Tekken, being a 3D fighter, caters to a completely different crowd. Strive will be fine, and people who enjoy it will continue to play it, as seen during the SF6 beta where the game still had around 3000 players on Steam.

@@isaacbenjamin8462 He is a street fighter guy not an anime fighter. Anime fighting games in general have a larger range of character archetypes then SF. Street Fighter really has about 2-4 character archetypes that are re-used over and over again.

Nine isn't really that complicated, though. You can coast for a long time just by autopiloting a few select strings that get you specific spells.

Nine was probably the simplest Top Tier, in CF at least.

I don't play BB, but from everyone I've seen who described her, she unfortunately could ignore most of her mechanics and just focus on the stuff that was really strong. With how Asuka's moveset is structured more like a deck, I do think you will have to be more thoughtfull with your options in comparison.

Everyone telling you this but it's true, 9 is pretty simple. Just need a few strings in your pocket and you gravy. Execution was easy to. I see your point though.

I just kinda wish they made Strive characters in general not so overly simplified, what made +r and xrd fun for me was the amount of dumb shit you could do on characters in those games and Strive characters lost that sauce. I didn't play Strive in a long ass time but honestly I'm down to try out Asuka

@@elaxlol223 this is as a newcomer, but I love the simplicity of certain characters, but can definetly understand more experienced or long term players of the series. But now that I’m hooked into the game, I don’t think I’ll quit even if they make every character have more complexity in a later season

@@pian-0g445 yep that happens to everyone that plays a fighting game for a certain period of time. Start off as a baby then come out as a man then they start easing your way into the more complex stuff cuz nothing more satisfying than thinking your something is too hard or complicated then you end up figuring it out.

they talked about adding mechanics for existing characters in season 3 too, and the last patch gave some much-needed sauce to a few chars whose lips were getting chapped. seems like theyre taking it in a good direction design-wise

Some people are trying to get me to delve into the weeds and describe what I think is and isn't acceptable in GGST, and how this idea compares to existing FG designs. But to do that, I'd have to come up with potential implementations and think them through in detail. Thought experiments are fun, but come on guys. this is youtube comments. I got things to do.

I felt that way about DNF Duel. That whole game is a head scratcher, all that effort could have gone into more Strive characters

Imo it's pretty clear from looking at Zappa that he'd be really good. Like just look at what each of his forms can do. Sword let's him pressure you like most offensive characters but from literally full screen, dog controls space incredibly well and enables some really fucked up mix, ghosts also control space really well and can fill the screen, and Roah is essentially intentionally broken and just does everything well, on top of having a full screen super that does like 33% of a person's health in chip damage. On top of this Zappa himself is just insanely fast, and hard to hit because his dash is so low to the ground. He also falls out of a lot of combos cause his hurt box is really weird. He obviously took some time to develop but it's not really a secret that he'd end up top tier in +R.

I'd say Zappa has a different kind of complexity and one that favours fighting games much more. While he has 4 puppets, I'd say it's more simple than that implies. One of them isn't a very consistent part of any given match, two of them operate on a gameplan of keepaway and screen control and each have very limited move-pools to work with. His complexity comes from adapting to the psuedo-random element, developing a fluid gameplan that can work with whatever form you get. Asuka's complexity comes from juggling quite alot of variables and being attentive. You need to manage what move is on what button (If anything is even on the button), how many spells you have left in your case, which spells have already shown up and having the mana to cast these things and keep your shield going. It's the kind of critical thinking that's alot harder to do under the pressure of having to also worry about the usual fighting game stuff. You can keep track of Zappa's variables during a match pretty well, whereas you're attention with Asuka seems to be constantly strained between alot of factors. Also, let's not forget that even Zappa wasn't born a top tier. Back in his original form in og Accent Core, he wasn't really remarkable at all. He was quite bad even. It took them overtuning the hell out of his kit in +R to make him the beast he is now.

Will it though? Do you really see the average player looking at a character with a bible of execution and memorization barrier and rushing to buy it? It's not like his design is stellar either, long cape, staff, books, standard elements for a mage really. The most unique thing about him is his eyepatch, and I don't honestly see that turning heads. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dismissing the amount of work that went into creating assets for this character. What I _am_ saying is that this is for pros and GG nerds only.

Asuka interests me most of all the DLC's. The mistake people make is they think they have to actually understand every little spell. You don't, you just need to know generally what spell route you want, then empty them on your opponent as quick as possible. He is basically Faust but with some control over the randomness.

I don't really play Smash Ultimate but this is more or less what I've heard Shulk described as. Speculative high tier with design/coding quirks make his 5 stances possible to access more freely than intended; broken on paper but very hard to exploit all his strengths and has little tournament representation. But regardless of whether Shulk fits this description or not, even if you DID have a character whose only weakness was their complexity, I'm not sure we'd be able to tell that apart from a genuine, intrinsic character weakness. Basically, if a character has a weakness that can be covered over with skill, but no one has that skill level, I think we'd just believe that weakness to be a weakness of the character rather than a deficit of skill up until the point that some player manages to reach that unprecedented skill level.
