The AT&T Annihilator Cup brought together a who's who of streamers to play Street Fighter V! Shroud, Mizkif, Doublelift, Lirik and more competed, some playing fighting games for the first time ever! Surely they all mastered the systems instantly.... right?

One of the coolest things was that people were learning *during the tournament*. They changed what buttons they used to jump in, their spacing became better, they blocked in situations where they previously mashed. Only doublelift didn't really change because he was so far ahead of everyone he didn't need to. : D
@sw33t1337

I'd also add Jake in that list, people think he's gotten to where he's at with only 1 week of practice but truth is he's no stranger to fighting games, he went through 2 sticks so I'd say that's plenty more experience than the rest lol. PVPx, Keeoh, and Jericho would be the guys in the next tier below those two. Only reason I didn't put Lirik in this group even though he finished 2nd is because all those guys knew how to combo, Lirik really beat 2 of them and made it to 2nd place not knowing how to combo lol

I really like the "language" analogy by Brian. you can't learn a language just by studying grammar, you have to immerse yourself and observe the way natives use their language. you can't also learn fighting games by practicing combos and poring over guides. it's like trying to drive a car by studying mechanics.

But when I saw Lift I just left and stopped watching till it was over, when it came to the finals I just left and behold I was 100% correct as to who would win it all. imagine if they did the same event but with tekken, a even harder game to comprehend, it would be gold.

Just figuring out which tools you have and how you can utilise them is difficult enough if you go into a complex fighting game like street fighter. When I first started I was so confused about why I had so many buttons and even more confused about some enemy moves to which I couldn't find an answer. On top of that, even if you know what you have to do, getting the muscle memory to reliably execute your intentions can be frustrating in the beginning.

After this whole tourney shining a light on SFV maybe we will start seeing some of these big streamers play the game more. Also would love to see Brian on Ludwigs Joes vs Pros. Maybe have another big fgc creator coach the guys a little bit but I think that would be very entertaining.

I'm coaching my bf how to play KOF15 as they fell in love with Terry in Smash. Also helping them learn Samsho and GGRev2. It's a unique experience teaching someone how to play something I've been doing as a kid.

Noko is that guy that goes from 0 to 100 about the simplest things. I get it it’s frustrating but Christ the guy makes me feel like I just snorted coke.

I like how Brian spoke one that fact that if you're actively trying to learn the game/learn fighting games in general(either way) your results are going to be bad for a while, I started playing fighting games back in 2017 and for the next 3 years on n off I got fucking shook for everything n around 2020(like a lot of us) I got better at something n that something just happened to be fighting games it took about 3 years for me to actual see results n now I love the genre. Yes it's hard to get into, yes you're going to get bodied, and yes it can be toxic, but this shit is amazing n I highly recommend this genre to anybody who feels like they need something new to try.

While wearing bunny ears, no less. Welcome to mainstream Twitch, where the streamers are insufferable and the gameplay is terrible.

Awesome video! I didn't want to watch the tournament, but I like your perspective on how everyone was learning and competing. I'm definitely out of the loop cause I don't know who these people are though. Lol. I just don't get the noko guy getting mad though, cause when I'm new to a fighting game and learning I don't care if I'm losing cause its no big deal you know? To me, it's when you know what you're doing somewhat where you get mad if something new throws you off.

Just remember most of these streamers play it for the camera. I'm not saying he isn't really malding but usually they exaggerate their reaction for "content"
