I have the Bearcat 980 and I love it I get excellent reports back from people on the air saying how clear sounding and loud it is

I hear a lot of good about the Uniden Bearcat 980 , and I've heard people talking on them . They always sound good . The only issue I've heard people having with the 980 is that its display is hard to see in the daylight .

@@RaccoonsRadioRanch Can confirm the display isn’t awesome. Scratches with your fingernails very easily. I have mine set up with an RM Italy 203 and have talked across the country with the 9’ whip. Great radio overall.

Thanks for your videos I actually purchased a radio based on your video the best CB radios I purchased the Uniden Bear Tracker 885 and love it it's perfect radio didn't even know it exist until I watched your video thanks again appreciate everything you do

I'm not sure , but I have no doubt that if you find the right Tech ... the older radios can get a tune up just like the newer ones do .

MY CONFUSE? You have to get a tech to boost the power on these radios for all those watts? Is the power output legal? Seems like at one time that High watt stuff was not legal and frowned upon??

Getting the work done isn't difficult . Usually when you order the equipment new , you'll notice that you also have the option to have it "Peaked & Tuned" by their Technicians for an extra $50 , or so . Having it "Peaked & Tuned" , is having this work done to them . Is it legal ? ... no . Is it "frowned upon" ? ... only by the FCC . Other CB operators are usually running the same kind of equipment , so they don't care .

And for those wondering , the difference between a 4 watt radio and a 30 watt radio is about an 8.8 dB increase in signal, or just over 1 S unit.

I have the Galaxy DX2547 tuned it puts out 42 watts, higher than what you said,. Bought from walcot.

I'd like to see an AM/FM/SSB compact radio. Something along the lines of the Johnny 3 size.

At this point , the only radios I'm aware of that offer AM/FM/SSB are the 10 meter Export radios ... and none of those are compact size . The smallest one I know of is the President Lincoln II + ... which is a great radio .

My Lincoln 2+ will dead key from almost no watt to almost 10 watts and swings to 45 to 50 watts depending on swr, wait it's a 10 and 12 meter radio🤦

@@spankthemonkey3437 There's no doubt that "Any" 10 meter radio would walk all over a "Tuned" CB Radio ... but I've done a few videos about those radios , so it was time to make this video for those that only buy CB Radios .

@@spankthemonkey3437 In all honesty , I've been told that the display on the 980 is hard to see in the daytime if you're using it mobile . If I were trying to decide between the Uniden Bearcat 980 SSB , and the President McKinley ... I would definitely choose the President McKinley ... it's better radio , and it only cost a little more than the 980 does .

All those radios are built on the same chasis as the 10 Meter radios made by those companies. I am sure that they are also capable of going above and below channel 40 and 1. As far as your #1 choice all well and good but why limit your self to an AM radio only? Are you going to do any follow up on the CB radios that now have FM mode?

Since this video is about the Most Powerful CB Radios I was only focusing on the power they put out , rather than the extra features they have . In fact I believe every one of them is capable of the "Extra Channels" . And the reason the "AM Only" radio is at Number 1 is because the list goes from the lowest wattage radio (#5) to the highest wattage radio (#1) ... and that one is the highest . Otherwise the Number 2 radio would have been at Number 1 . There isn't a very big selection of FM CB Radios yet , there's only a few of them so far . When we get a bigger selection I'll take another look at them .

@@RaccoonsRadioRanch Many moons ago I had a Sonar FS 23 tube radio. I was able to have it peaked and tuned to around 30+ watts. I just had to remember not to lean my arm over the top. LOL BTW do you know how the term "My radio is perculating" came from?

@@michaelrocker9000 I have quite a few Tube radios around here that are all in good shape , and I still use regularly . A couple of them are CBs , and a couple are Ham . I love tube equipment ... "My radio is percolating" must come from back in the old tube radio days , when the tubes got so warm that you could warm your coffee pot on them ... lol

@@RaccoonsRadioRanch a good friend of mine used to run an EF Johnson 500. It let off much heat that he jad to open a window in the winter. It dead keyed at 1 watt and over 400 with modulation. It was a clean sounding radio.

APPRECIATED. MAXIMUM POWER ALLOWED ON CB IS 4 WATTS. HOW COME THESE MODELS HAVE 30 WATTS.
