I have the President Lincoln II Plus "channel expanded" and I can vouch that it is an amazing radio. I love it, does 10,11,12 meter and in between some. I've made multiple long distance contacts with it through a 102" stainless steel whip on my jeep. Even made my first Over seas contact with this very radio. Power is stock in fact everything is stock except for the channel expansion. Great radio and I'm probably gonna buy a couple more for my other trucks.

I agree , but honestly I don't own a Lincoln II + . I have a few friends that one though , and they're completely happy with them. President radios have always made amazing radios . I have quite a few of Presidents radios in my collection , including the HR-2510 , and I've always believed that they make excellent equipment . As for it being stock , I don't think it's as important now days to add a power mic to these newer radios , now that they're making them sound as good as a power mic ... and in some cases , better than a power mic .
@MarvinParnell
@MarvinParnell 2 года назад
@@RaccoonsRadioRanch True, I heard my audio the other day from the radio and it almost sounds like it has a small compression circuit built in for the mic audio. Which wouldn't surprise me since the mic is Powered. With that, an external Linear amplifier would be easy to add anyway because of the variable power built in stock. President has always been a great company and I'm glad they have not went the way some other great companies from the past have went. I.E Cobra lol.

Does that radio come “channel expanded” for 11 meters or does it require modification after market?

@@MarvinParnell thanks Marvin. I appreciate the prompt response! I figure there’s plenty of info on it somewhere out here then, might even be sold in a kit somewhere? Do you happen to know if the same goes for the other radios on this list? I’ve been out of this realm for over 20 years, but way back, I did a lot of CB-in and only got up to a technician no-code ticket. I’m interested in getting back into 11 meters. Thanks!

Of these radios, I agree 100% with the number 1. I have an Anytone 6666, it's an excellent radio. I do sometimes kick myself in the rear for not spending a bit more on a Stryker, but in a way I wish I'd have spent even more and got an Icom 7100 and mars modded it too - but that's not an export radio. I really don't like the analog meters on some of these, or the 1970's styling. The Stryker kind of has that 50's chrome grill vibe to it ... anyway, the Anytone is a good radio too. Especially hooked up to the Stryker whip I'm running. The Anytone 5555N (not even close to the regular 5555 which I've heard good things about) is a really good radio for a more compact installation. Wish you would have wrapped the 3 "same but different wattage" into 1, and added 2 more radios - whatever your choices may be.

Hey Guy , I have a few friends that are using the Anytone 6666 and they're a good sounding radio . At the time I made this video , I wasn't too familiar with the Anytone 6666 . I still run my old original Hygain V 2785 5 band VFO BLOCK switch on the front panel ,PEP is 30w on SSB, 10w on AM and FM. Also it has a function to drop exactly 5 kHz between the programmed frequencies that end in a 5 e.g. 27.405 mhz with the drop it can go down or up to27.400 or 27.410 depending what channel is displayed on the LED ch readout. No this radio is not for sale as it's now a collector's item . Apart from that radio I also have many other style cb radios also using the cybernet chassis and a PLL 02A and 02A-G chip in them making it very easy to mod for extra channels above and below the standard 40 channels. They work well with my Palomar 2250 amp. Also in my collection over the years is the Ranger RCI 2970 at 200w SSB and 50w on AM and 100w on FM. My home base antennas are a homemade 5 element yagi using 1/2 length for driven element ( it's a full size yagi ) , a homemade 9 element cubical quad with double reflector ( 2nd reflector is 1/4 wave length bigger than the standard design on purpose) to close the backdoor and limit the backscatter . My quad is only a baby at only 18.7m long boom and it sits at 10m above the ground , the yagi is 14.7m long and sits at 15m above the ground on its own seperate tower . Apart from that I run a Sirtel 16 radial ground plane vertical , a homemade 7/8 wave length vertical , a homemade 2 element Hexbeam ( 5 bands for ham and one for cb ) plus a homemade G5RV longwire . I prefer to make my own antennas for 2 reasons - it's cost effective and it's a very learning curve on how antennas work . For UHF cb radio I have a factory made 18ft vertical base unit, a homemade circular shaped quad style antenna at 12 elements with a triple reflector ( very highly directional and exceptionally quiet thru the back end ) and a homemade 12 element quagi antenna ( configuration is cubical quad -1 driven element , 2 reflectors quad type and 9 yagi directors . The best part about making homemade antennas and getting a contact with them brings joy to oneself and astonishment to the people one has the contact with . Even more on HF frequencies. Great video mate well done , cheers from Australia mate , PS I confuse my equipment often anymore as it interferes with my girlfriends pacemaker unit when she's home or outside the house in the yard .
@RaccoonsRadioRanch
@RaccoonsRadioRanch 2 года назад
Rick , I have a G5RV , but I'm not currently using it . I've been using a Carolina Windom for my HF work , along with my LDG Z-11 Pro antenna tuner . I also have a J Pole made out of copper piping that I use for my 2 meter work . As far as 11 meters goes though , I just use an Imax 2000 for that . But I do have a Maco V 5/8s antenna that I'd like to get switched out with the Imax . I don't have any Beam antennas up anymore , they're usually too big for the area that my tower sits in because my neighbor has a giant black oak that's sitting about 14 feet away from it . And you've gotta watch out for those pacemakers , I know a few people that have one . I even had a friend that had one , and he was stung by a bee . It somehow messed with his pacemaker , and he died ... those things can be really touchy .

Ok. If emergency comms are in the thought process, how many watts do you need to not be buried in the background chatter and make the trip consistently within 100 miles? Actually 50 to 75 is more realistically critical. I know such a question is pretty problematic but there are some big talkers here that have a darn good idea of wattts vs miles on a daily average using various antennas and base vs mobile. I don't want to drop a penny or a dime more than I have to for enhanced and reliable comms covering a 100 air mile radius. Also battery drain is a consideration under emergency power scenarios. I know not all radios are as hungry as others.
@RaccoonsRadioRanch
@RaccoonsRadioRanch 3 года назад
In all honesty , the amount of wattage needed to cover the distance you mentioned , largely depends on the location that you're trying to transmit from . Trying to transmit from a flat area like the midwest , or near a large body of water will require less power than trying to transmit from an area with a lot of hills , or worse yet .... mountains . And older equipment would probably eat more emergency juice that the newer surface mounted stuff .
@johnnorman7708
@johnnorman7708 3 года назад
@@RaccoonsRadioRanch Oh yeah I know the usual rule of thumb in regards to terrain and such. It's just that big time talkers usually get a gut instinct for averages in their area. I heard of an emergency call on FRS that was received about 70 miles away in mountains. My guess was tropospheric ducting at such low power and frequencies.

Honestly , your choice of good places to buy radio equipment varies from person to person . Which is usually based on the experiences they had buying through those places in the past , or the experiences of what someone they knew had with those places . But personally , I like to buy my equipment from a place called Bells CB . Their stuff is good quality , they're honest and good to deal with . They have good radio techs , and they're always quick to answer any questions you might have . You can check them out here : www.bellscb.com/

Really a striker above a ranger..... thats funny lmao
@RaccoonsRadioRanch
@RaccoonsRadioRanch Год назад
I LOVE the older Ranger equipment , I don't think their older stuff can be beat . But ... like it or not , their newer stuff doesn't compare to their older stuff . I always know when someone is using a new Ranger on Sideband because they're always slightly off frequency . Even though they say they're dead center ... they're still off , and it's very noticeable everyone on the channel . So believe it or not ... the Stryker 955 out preforms the newer Rangers on Sideband. , and for that it's above ANY newer Ranger equipment on this list . Maybe Ranger should up their game and stop riding on their reputation ... if they did , they'd be ranking higher in the list . It's not like I'm not using or listening to this equipment . I'm on it all the time and I know what I see , and what I hear out there .

isnt 10 meter different than CB?
@RaccoonsRadioRanch
@RaccoonsRadioRanch 2 года назад
CB radio is 26.965mhz - 27.405mhz ..... and 10 meters is a Ham band that covers 28.000mhz - 29.700mhz . So yes there's a difference between the two . Some CB'ers like to buy these radios and have them converted so they can use them on the CB band (11 meters) ... and some Ham operators buy them to use them as they're intended to be used . Either way you look at it , this list is good information for which ever way the buyer wants to use the radio .

I am so confused. Are there any simple, straight forward, easy to understand video's that could possibly clear up the all the oodles of information surrounding cb radio's. My God there seems to be a lot to consider. So many names. Some considered cb's. Some considered ham radios. Some mobile. Some handheld. Some considered base stations. Then there is the confusion of side bands and FM and what it means and how THEY are useful as well which is something else I don't really understand at all. Then there is 10m, 11m and the like. Something else I don't really understand. And then you throw in export radios that are less restrictive and easier to modify if you don't care about the so-called 'rules' or FCC. I am so lost. Signed~confused asf! I don't mind spending the money but I'd like something VERY powerful and something that's easy to modify. Something that I can learn and grow on as well would be nice or more specifically a cb that has all the other options I may want when I understand them a little better (like ssb and fm). Oh and a plain and simple roger's beep is a must have too. You seem to be an authority so any suggestions on where to start would be appreciated. I DO love the look of the Galaxy's and Strykers though. Always have. But there are so much out there and so many options to consider Help! :)

Hi Dion , I've made a couple videos that talk about some of the things you're asking about . I think I'm going to have to make a video that can help people navigate around through my list of videos a little easier . I'll be VERY honest ... if you're looking to buy a radio , the 3 radios I would suggest someone should buy are : 3. President McKinley II -- This is a 40 channel CB Radio with AM and sideband in it . 2. President Lincoln II Plus -- This is a 10 meter radio, or an Export radio and will need to be converted to CB . It has AM/FM and sideband in it . 1. Stryker SR-955HP -- This is a 10 meter radio, or an Export radio and will need to be converted to CB . It has AM/FM and sideband in it .
