This is how my mom fed me as a kid, adult size portions of massively unhealthy food. Had a clean plate rule. Now I’m 23 and 360 lbs (down from 460), but it basically ruined my life and my metabolism. Now I’m working on getting back on track but I can’t help but feel like I was sabotaged from the beginning

Same! I used to always tell my parents that I couldn't wait to get older to eat whatever I wanted. Then when I got old enough to do that and realized how bad it made me look/feel, I quickly ran back to the health side. If I'd have grown up on junk food and with no basis for comparison, I'd have never known.

@@jennieskye8375 please don't just let your kid misunderstand you or judge your unfairly. Give your child clarity. Talk to her openly about why you do what you do, she is old enough to understand common sense and how junk food every day affects health negatively and how obesity is a serious problem that can be fatal. 14 is already capable of understanding stuff like this.

i was the same, she even let me pick corn every night because i was super picky with my veggies when i was a toddler. now that im older i miss her homemade meals and good veggies. and she let me have donuts for breakfast occasionally or burgers for dinner a couple times a month (because then in was cheap) but she also made sure to get major food groups in my diet like rice, apples, veggies, and wheats. people need to understand that you can make at home hearty meals on a budget but also spoil the kids now and then with unhealthy or sugary foods.

I was absolutely overfed junk/processed food as a kid and it was 1000 percent because my mum was a teenager, dirt broke, with an abusive partner who liked that kind of food and event that didn't come close to what this woman feeds her kids. I'm saying that as a fat person to - I couldn't even imagine doing this to my future kids - I already know I would need to relearn eating habits for them. I was literally bawling my eyes out yesterday, sobbing to my mother in law, worried I was being a bad mom because my 2 year old didn’t want her green beans and potatoes (her current fave) and I didn’t want her to be hungry before I showered, after I just finished working a double. These women have calmed that worry down immensely.

DUDE I LITERALLY CONSTANTLY DO THE SAME THING TO MY MOM! My 18 month old absolutely will throw herself on the floor in full hysterics if I try to give her anything from her actual dinner plate. Same here, my 15 month old will sometimes just flat out refuse to eat his dinner. Our pediatrician did kinda settle my worries by telling me that kids are natural intuitive eaters, and as long as he was pooping, peeing and growing I should just try to not worry and not force the matter. He told me to keep trying foods kiddo refuses, sometimes it takes a few tries for him to get accustomed to new flavours. Also, I started serving his greens first, while he is hungry. After i'm satisfied i'll give him the proteine, and when he is almost done with that i'll give him his carbs. That way he doesnt fill up on potatoes or rice and refuse to eat the rest. Try not to worry too much, from what i gather from your post it sounds like you are a great mom!

it's not even a matter of time these days; there are pre-packaged salad kits and other realitively healthy options at your average grocery store. assuming she doesn't live in a food desert, a few salad kits and some canned fruit would go a long way in improving their health outcomes. There are also snack kits marketed specifically for kids that include some simple fruit and vegies too. We get them sometimes from the local food closet/bank. Plus a lot of grocery stores these days sell pre-made salads and sandwiches(plus the delis often have a fair variety too) and sometimes ready to heat/cook single-serving meals to boot. They're not always cheap, but even as an occasional, supplemented with raw fruits and vegitables, it could go a long way.

My mother was a stay at home mom who couldn't be bothered to cook or clean and would only do laundry once a week. The older kids would clean as their "chores" until she started hiring a cleaning service. Her idea of cooking was like hamburger helper or frozen pizza with a side of frozen veggies, but Chinese take out was a staple of about 2 or 3 times a week. I loved when my step dad had time or it was dad's weekend because they would cook and it was amazing. I started teaching myself to cook (with some assistance from step dad or dad when they could) at 9 just so I could get away from the chicken nuggets, mac-n-cheese, and hot dogs.

people arguing that she’s low-income and that’s why she’s feeding her two year old powdered donuts instead of eggs for breakfast is insane. while yes, fresh produce can be expensive, fast food is arguably way more expensive right now. also, she has the money to spend on hauls from barnes and nobles instead of going to a library. she most definitely can afford to go to the grocery store and stop providing her kids with foods that have zero nutritional value.

In the state that I live in if you have food stamps/SNAP and you go to the farmers market or many of these local markets, if you buy fresh produce with your food stamps you get 50% off. It’s absolutely amazing I love it. I still shop for the stuff that’s on sale but then I get 50% off that. Many farmers markets are run or sponsored by organizations in towns. The farmers and vendors are independent. Many trying to survive save their farms. That’s great the state you live in gives you 50% off so you can have fresh produce. But no it’s not a federal mandate. Different from super markets where you will see the WIC labels under certain items. It would be very hard to keep track to reimburse all at farmers markets. Actually a fiscal nightmare but be happy the state you live in gives you that opportunity. It’s nice to see people that actually need the extra help use it responsibly like you do and you still shop sale to get the most from your benefits.@@MeowNow494

I do think if someone has not been taught proper nutrition themselves, then it is not actually that easy to avoid it with their own children because they don't know what a healthy portion looks like/might struggle with the concept of 'wasting' food. Obviously what's happening here isn't that but I do think we should be more understanding of why some people might struggle with these things. I have struggles with not wanting to deny my children food because of experiences I had, one of mine also has severe sensory issues and so I struggle with wanting to feed her healthy food but also wanting her to just eat literally anything some days because it's better than nothing.

i could respect channels who explain how to cook for children, and I don't mean cooking only kid food. in my country kids eat the exact same thing as their parents through out the day, the kids portions just get seperated before the "adult spices" get added to the meal. It is a different kind of cooking experience that deserves more attention, because kids immitate their parents, but I always see parents try to feed their kids while they themselves aren't eating and then get frustrated when the kid doesn't want to try food.

@NerdyPengin
@NerdyPengin 13 дней назад
I grew up at least 100% under the poverty line at that time (it has since been raised in total income). I am now classed squarely in the middle of middle class. Unfortunately, I don't have rich people perspective, but I do have upper middle class (lived with a family that was bracketed there for a while). Now, I wouldn't say that it's a price point, which I can recognize arguments on both sides for, persay. Sure, healthier foods pound for pound is more expensive, but you do not need as much healthy foods as you do with junk food - so you aren't buying as much. The caviat for that is that you need to ensure that you're getting the proper nutrients you need for your lifestyle. If done keeping in mind what you are putting into your body while covering the basics, you should, theoretically (there's going to be at least one person this doesn't work for), be purchasing less food overall and over time after your body adjusts to the quantity of food you are consuming. As for the pricing? It is either the same or actually less to eat healthier and make your own food if we're talking just about the numbers. However, I learned just the food pyramid in school and what we should be eating. I remember thinking that it was a lot of food when I learned it. I didn't understand why, nor did I learn about the varying nutritional value between a cucumber vs a tomato. Today, as I am raising kids - I do not use ANYTHING I learned from public school about nutrition. I had since learned the difference in nutritional value between cucumber and tomato amongst the other information that I have and utilize that instead of the food pyramid that made no sense to me. On top of anything else, we need a better education system. Thankfully, where my kids go to school, they learned about fruits and veggies along with where they come from. They even got to bring their individual plants home and were put into a garden they have direct access to! Sure, they are privileged to have that, but a lot of people could if they are taught how to tend to the plants - or a community garden deal. Thanks for reading this far. I get wordy with things I'm passionate about. Good food and security of that for kids is important!

I started experimenting 15 years into cooking. That's a lot of fun too! You win some, you lose some, but you learn real quick! At 25 years into cooking, I started just making my own meals/desserts after understanding the method behind recipes. I even completely changed a gingerbread recipe I found online to make it my own and it turned out really good! As a mom, I still experiment, but usually it's just one portion of a meal and I have a backup plan or I'll make an extra side just in case. Another option for the smaller things is to make a smaller amount and have it as a test for a quick snack (1/4 serving to half a serving for each child). And I give them the option to try it for something new. For reference, I'm just under 30 years of cooking and feel like there's more to explore!

Tbh their careers would surprise you! They both were struggling with untreated mental disorders and addiction att) They had the money to hire a nanny, but I was mostly left to fend for myself. which led to myle being a fat kid cause I only knew how to make ramen sinc3 I started cooking at 5, that or fast food/candy. My dads parents would kinda watch me but they mostly fed me junk food. My mom basically trained me (like potty training) with full-sized candy bars and didnt have actual vegitables, not fried veggies till i was in my teens. In middle school my science teacher listened to me having a panic attack one day after getting bullied, cause I was very bullied about my weight. He talked to my parents, and they agreed to get me into therapy and a nutritionalist. He was also my HS's JV football coach so he taught me to work out with his daughters. By HS I had lost a lot of weight and was in archery and Tae Kwon Do. That man changed my life and I still see him since his daughters are my best friends (and they were some of my bridesmaids). The sad thing is that there's a lot of food insecurity right now due to the cost of living, including food costs. A lot of families can't even afford going on a weekly grocery run due to this issue. However, even with food insecurity, there's always ways to ensure you get what you need to put food on your table. Frozen and canned fruit and veggies go a long way... and even with fresh produce, if you have too much because that's how things are at grocery stores, you can place them into freezer bags and into the freezer. I do this with peppers now. If I am not planning on using them for stuffed peppers, I slice them up and put them directly into the freezer. That way when I am making soups or casseroles for me and my sisters, I always have them on hand. I just don't get how a mother thinks that feeding her toddler doughnuts for breakfast is a good thing.

The way that first woman feeds her kids disgusts me so much and it's absolutely child abuse in my eyes. I've commented on many of her videos telling her that she's subjecting her children to metabolic disorders and much more. I've been met with a lot of people agreeing, as well as a TON of people defending her. They say "she's a great mom" and "she loves her babies". None of which could possibly be true. What's most alarming is that so many people defending her must feed their children the same! I wish that nutritional neglect was a reportable offense to CPS and required parents to take classes on childhood nutrition. So glad that you've made this video to bring awareness to this disgusting behavior.

I thought my diet wasn't the best...now that I've watched this..wow do I feel better about myself. I'll make eggs and toast for breakfast or eggs and pancakes etc...or even just a bagel. I try to add a fruit when it's in season or things like applesauce that can be gotten in colder months easily. Normally lunch is a easy frozen meal or something like ppj and chips. Dinner is almost always a homemade meal. Do most my meals have meat? Yes and I know that's not exactly the best but all my meals have at least 1 veggie if not more or even a fruit. I thought this wasn't good...Gods I'm doing fine compared to this actual junk Edit- I grew up a picky eater. As I've gotten older and learned how to cook things differently I've learned to "hide" a lot of veggies into my meals by cutting them small or even just cooking them differently. I understand that sometimes getting a kid to just eat something is better then them not eating anything or even throwing it up bc they hate it. I was that way as a child. My parents still did the right thing and made sure to TRY to balance my foods I was never forced to eat anything I didn't like other then at least a bite at each meal. I was always told today might be the day you like it. The point is they still tried they put it on the plate. When it's not even an option? Thats unacceptable parenting honestly. Exposure Exposure Exposure is needed for picky eaters if that is your excuse it's not a good one. Coming from a picky eater myself, I've grown to love so many more veggies then I ever have all because I was given the just take a bite mindset, if it was never even an option i wouldn't be where I am now with my food journey

I’m so grateful that my parents taught me that candy and sweets have a place to help you feel happy sometimes, but vegetables and fresh fruit (also always available!) would help our bodies feel good too! My mom took the time to learn what vegetables I didn’t like and cooked alternatives. My dad helped me learn to portion enough protein for a growing body.
