Very good, intelligent conversation! I think it’s obvious where the mindcrime originates and how that awful con of a cult has resulted in so much damage to any and everyone around it. I feel so sad that Brigham laid his corrupt hand on poor Samuel Clemens. How icky for him.

A lot of events in American history became well known because of being immortalized on the silver screen. I know that Mountian Medows' story has been told by an independent film. But to my knowledge, why hasn't Hollywood never told the story?

Thank you for having Barbara on to cover this most important subject. I read a book from my church library about the trip that Brigham Young and his followers took across America. It was a novel based on the facts of the fated trip. It was such an impactful read but I didn’t understand the full truth of it at that time. I wish I knew the title of that book as I would love to read it again. If anyone knows, please help me by giving me the title of the book. I’m so glad that there are some, and even many, who are realizing the truth of this hideous religion.

Juanita Brooks who wrote the book about the massacre is my good friend's great aunt. My friend is still a church member (serving a mission with her husband in the Philippines) but is quite liberal (for a Mormon). We visited the massacre site in 2022 and it was a hauntingly beautiful site. So very, very sad and unfairly adjudicated.

I need to read the Eyring speech and am glad that some type of apology was given. The fact that Eyring cried while reading it doesn’t mean much as he regularly cries while speaking in public.

I read her book a few months ago. What a horrible man Brigham Young was. This event is without a doubt the most horrific thing to ever happen on American soil. How anyone can believe that Brigham Young was somehow a prophet of God is beyond me.

The Baker-Fancher wagon train was arguably the wealthiest to have passed through the Utah territory. Brigham Young had eyes and ears everywhere in Utah, was expecting the US Army to arrive, and was low on funds. An estimated $70,000 in gold, silver, paper notes and jewelry owned by the Baker-Fancher party vanished after the massacre as well as between 500-700 head of long horn cattle and horses. There are US Army reports of these animals being identified after Brigham Young auctioned them off to neighbouring towns in 1858. When the Mormon War didn’t happen, by some miracle, Brigham Young had the funds to build the Tabernacle and ordered the largest pipe organ ever constructed in history. The massacre took place on September 11th, 1857. IXXI or 911 is a very important date for Freemasons-Brigham Young was a 33rd Degree Mason-I don’t see how he knew nothing about the circumstances surrounding the event, nor anything about what happened to the money, jewelry and livestock.

I agree with you. I’m shocked, but I shouldn’t be, at the “poor Brigham” attitude in Barbara when she should know as a historian how much influence and abuse accompanied Brigham and his cohorts throughout his “reign” as top man in this horrific religion. Satan has been working through it from the beginning. Thank you for listing the facts. God rebuke the heinous roots he and those with him planted with their satanic agenda.

Being a direct relative of John D. Lee, and Ivan’s, Santa Clara, Washington were all founded by relatives I was raised hearing all sides. I have a copy of Lees diary as the only perpetrator that was executed because of his involvement… which he admits to in his diary. Harold B. Lee a President of the church did his best to help right wrongs associated with the MMM.( also a relative ) I spoke with Richard T. and shared both sides with verification of facts on both sides before he co authored the book with your guest. I appreciate the great job you all did but there’s an old saying that history is written by the victors. There are some pieces that were left out both good and bad. Just saying..
