How Imotep goes from the Big Bad to... well kind of a victim! The look he gives O'Connell in the end? Envy & despair in equal measure, but not an ounce of hate? 💔💔💔

The “Rick gives off Tarzan” line will come full circle when you get around to watching George of the jungle

I’ve always liked the end. He tells Evie to run and she stays and helps him, Imotep begs Anacksuman for help and she runs. The hurt in his eyes really shows you how true love is supposed to look and how they both feel bad for him in the very end.

Shortly after Rick tells her their son is becoming more like her every day comes the scene where all of the pillars domino into each other one after another. This scene is a direct call back to the first movie when his mother knocked over all of the bookcases at the museum in the same way.

Evie's death is absolutely CRUSHING. You see it's effect on Rick right up until he sees her alive again. Then you also see how he responds to seeing her again. You can literally see the burst of adrenaline surge through him as he recovers from being knocked down and worn out.

Brendan Fraiser and Rachel Weisz have some of the BEST on screen chemistry that i have ever seen, love them on screen.

I always liked that though the Mummy was somewhat inspired by the Indiana Jones movies, rather than going with their idea of using a different love interest in each movie, The Mummy went not only with keeping the same Love story, but went right to "The got married and had a kid" and showed it took nothing away.

One of the things I appreciate the most about this movie is that it doesn't ruin Evie and Rick's relationship. So many movies that end in the way the original Mummy ended have a sequel that's basically "oh we broke up, or oh we're having relationship problems".

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has credited Brendan Fraser for getting him in this movie, which was his first movie of note and led to several stand alone Scorpian King movies which gave him a ton of exposure and basically kickstarted his film career. Johnson had great things to say about Brendan when he won his Oscar for The Whale.

Apparently one of the notes the directors got at a viewing was that when evie died, you could still see her pulse in her neck. His reply was that he doubted Rachel was OK with being killed for real.

Patricia Velazquez and Oded Fehr being back for the sequel is a very nice touch. Well done.

The PERFECT sequel. Characters have advanced, older, wiser. They've learned from each other. Everything is in its logical place at the beginning. There's no drastic change between the first and second films to force a sequel. Like if it were other series, Evie might've been dead/they would've been divorced, Rick might've been a drunkard or somehting.

Brendan Fraser is a gift and a treasure

There is a quite credible theory that Jonathan served in the British army in World War I, and a good deal of his presented personality is a reaction to the horrors of that war. It would certainly explain how good he was with that rifle.

"Johnathan, that's my husband and son down there. Make me proud." "Today is that day Evie." I really like that exchange.

One of the rare few movies where the kid (Freddie Boath) was actually a good addition rather than a constant annoyance. Hard to think it was 22 years since I went to the cinema to see it.

That moment near the end, when Anck-su-namun leaves Imhotep and he looks across at O'Connell and Evelyn, makes you kinda sad for him, as he realizes that they have what he never did, which was pure love. Also, I love this movie and it's one of those rare occasions where the sequel is just as good as the first one.

This is one of those rare sequels where not only is it really good but they bring back familiar beats and the original characters plus expanding the setting and story to a larger exciting scope sort of like Home Alone 2. Rick and Evie are still madly in love and are so badass together equally side by side, we don't get movie couples like that anymore. The amount of times I watched this was insane, this and the first Mummy movie are the only ones that should be acknowledged.

Oded Fehr is really underrated. I feel like they missed out having him carry some movies during this era.

Love that you said the Scorpion King looked 'unnatural'. Usually people say it looks fake, but unnatural is actually a fairer assessment. They didn't have the Rock for reference when they were animating that scorpion which, for the record, is why it looked so 'unnatural'. This was Dwayne Johnson's first film by the way, he was purely a wrestler before it.

Imhotep's dramatic "No" is a living meme in itself.

Those spiders! I think the one thing I didn't want back in this movie was those dang spiders!" Man, I really hope the University of Saskatchewan considers doing a review of their tenure of Entomology department faculty member, Professor Carly...

The callback to Jonathan and Evelyn figuring out the stork symbol from first movie was also neat, along with all other callbacks. Personally when i first watched it, i became a fan of that little peregrine falcon that managed to crawl back after being shot and delivered the message to the Medjai! What a hero 👏🏽😅 A good adventure movie, one of my favourites and back in 2001, it was the first time i watched a movie alone in a theatre (back when we didn't have cellphones and me and my buddy ended up watching it two rows apart since we couldn't locate each other before the movie started😅😅)

I think it's hilarious that they hate the "crashing into each other like a car accident" so much. Usually the only people who hate it are historians, because battles probably never happened like that, ever.

love how every bug in this movie is a "spider"

Imhotep actually manages to convey a bit of pathos right at the end . Arnold Vosloo really did a nice job with just his body language and eyes. The Scorpion King bit is famously crappy CGI but he's largely an irrelevance so it doesn't bother me.

The trailer for this was like "unleashed evil from a book by the two people that should know better".

Trigger squeeze vs trigger pull - Rick is showing some legit marksmanship skills with that statement. In marksmanship, we teach Soldiers (or anyone) to aim, breathe in, breathe out, then squeeze trigger. A slow, easy squeeze, it should almost surprise you when the gun fires. Pulling the trigger creates a jerk on the rifle, even a small jerk will have significant impact when shooting a target more than a few yards away. Similarly, breathing can cause the rifle to gently move up and down with each breath, hence inhale, exhale, trigger squeeze.

Minority opinion, I like all three movies, but yes: if the first one is a 10, the second is a 9, and the third... well... not a 9. Strill a fun watch. Excellent reaction as usual, ladies.

There is a third movie, which many fans do not like. My philosophy is, any movie with Michelle Yeoh in the cast can't be all bad. Be forewarned, though, they recast Evie. Rachel Weisz isn't in it, so consider that when deciding whether to watch it.

As I'm in the middle of watching this, what I am gathering so far is to Cassie and Carly all bugs = spiders and hawks = pigeons 😂😂😂

With Honors, with Brendan Fraser, Joe Pesci, Patrick Dempsey, is a movie I think you both would enjoy. 👍🏼

Rachel and Brendan have such good chemistry, romantically and comedically. This is definitely up there on the list where the second movie is better than the first.

This movie was actually the first movie that the Rock acted in. This actually gave rise to The Scorpion King which is the first movie where the Rock had a lead role and it’s easily my favorite movie with The Rock. You guys must watch it at some point, I think you both will like it.

I never have felt this much pity for a Big Bad as I do for Imhotep when he finds out how much he matters to her. That look he gives Rick and Evie... It hurts almost as much as the very primitive CGI. You can skip the third one and the Scorpion King.

If you love Rachel Weisz as Evie, then I totally recommend missing the third Mummy film. While it does have a decent story, there are just too many moments throughout it that make you question the decisions of the entire production team, one being their poor choice in casting. Maria Bello is a great actress, but I don’t think they could have cast anyone worse to play Evie. Rachel Weisz is absolutely adorable in the role, and Maria Bello does not have that special something that Rachel had to help her pull it off. It’s a fun film, but it’s kinda hard to watch at times, my main issue being Maria Bello’s unconvincing performance.

Cassie and Carly should have had a great time with this one. Not quite as good as the first one but still fun! Brendan Fraser in his prime and Rachel Wiese right before her Oscar win. Great time with Popcorn in Bed! Super Thanks!

This is a great sequel. The Rock animation could have been better but other than that it was great! Luv when Cassie and Carly flinch or get jump scared! Makes it more fun! Love this movie! While the CGI wasn’t great, it was still fun and action-packed, overall a decent movie. And my favourite character is either Ardeth or Jonathan Haven’t seen the other movies, but I’ve heard it goes downhill after the 2nd film

I am not an entomologist, so things I identified as scarabs and scorpions, Carly called spiders. This is one of the rare sequels that is just as good as the original. I love when you two react together. I'm surprised you did this one in December. Keep up the good work!

Oh man this was my favorite childhood movie i used to watch this when I was 4 all the time. That scene in the beginning where Rick tears down cobwebs sent the memories flooding back

Now that's how you do a sequel to a cinematic masterpiece! I can't think of ANY original/sequel combination where the story, thrill and characters are so pefectly expanded upon. The Mummy is 10/10 in my book, while the sequel might be a 9.5/10, but since it's such a good matchup, we might as well slap them together in combo viewing experience and round that number to a 10/10 again.

THEY'RE NOT SPIDERS! 🕷 The ones from the first movie that get under your skin are Scarab beetles and the ones in this movie you saw were scorpions, hence, the Scorpion King. Yes, there were a couple of spiders mixed in, but please understand, not everything that moves is a spider 🙄. It's not an owl, it's a falcon. Squeeze the trigger to maintain a steady aim,if you pull it,there's a chance the barrel will jump slightly and you'll miss your target. Funny when you said Rick was giving you Tarzan vibes, since he also played George of the Jungle in the film adaptation of the cartoon that parodies Tarzan (full circle). You'll like the Magii guy in the Resident Evil franchise. Anyway, loved the review, love you guys, take care and stay safe ❤️

If you didn't notice when Evelyn fell off the boat , that's what happened to her in the past life as well. Nefertiri inadvertently leaned too far over the edge of the balcony and fell to her death. Despite having perished, Nefertiri's soul was cast adrift into the currents of time to be reborn once fate deemed the time right to revenge herself upon Anck-Su-Namun. This is why Evelyn is a reincarnation.

For 22 years, the Scorpion King has been renowned as one of the worst CG effects in cinematic history. And... by God, it's terrible. LOL. PS. Those things weren't spiders, they were scarab beetles.

Been waiting for this reaction since the first one, I knew you both would love it! And to answer your question, this was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's first movie EVER, followed up immediately by The Scorpion King, his first lead role ever. These two films instantly made him the next top leading man in Hollywood, especially The Scorpion King, which came out in 2002, the year after The Mummy Returns. I would highly recommend that one for you to review as well, very similar vibes to The Mummy films, and the launching of Johnson's Hollywood career out of the WWE.

As crappy as the CGI on The Scorpion King was, I love the fight between Rick and Imhotep, as well as the one between Evy and Ankhsunamun. Autism fueled observation/side notes: 1, That snake that Evelyn kicked towards Rick is actually a milksnake. You can tell by the band pattern (red, black, yellow). If the band sequence was red, yellow, black, they'd have something to worry about, because that's the band pattern of the venomous coral snake. Also, real scarabs were actually just dung beetles, who actually lay their eggs in balls of giraffe, elephant and rhinoceros dung. 2. When Jonathan says "Hang on, Rick!!", My first response everytime is "I don't think he was planning to let go" In the first movie: 3, After Evy unknowingly awakens Imhotep by reading the Book Of The Dead. and the locust swarm flies into the encampment at Hamunaptra, the locusts are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish. 4. In the desert race to Hamunaptra, you see camels and horses. Horses are faster, but camels are adapted to life in the desert. Even though they do eventually have to eat and drink, camels can live off the fat reserves inside their humps, their long eyelashes keep dust out of their eyes, and their feet are big and wide to keep them from sinking into the sand as they move.

"squeeze the trigger don't pull it" is common advice given to new shooters. It is especially important on longer range shots to minimize the movement of the gun barrel. When doing a long range shot holding your breath or squeezing the trigger on a exhale gives you a steady aim as opposed to slapping the trigger with a quick motion which tends to give your hand and the gun a slight jerk.

Hey y'all! Most of this movie I really liked, though the first will always be my Favorite. I love the Past life flashbacks that Evie was having, it gave much more insight to her character and sort of what lead up to the Pharoah's being killed. I've always had an interest in Egyptology, these 2 movies were so enjoyable. Though it is a shame the CGI for DJ when he was half Scorpion wasn't better. But it is what it is. The weird little creatures in the Oasis were- Pygmy Mummies and were only there to kill intruders to tried venturing into the area. Enjoyed watching! 😊

If you want happy endings, 'Thomas Crown Affair' from 1999 and 'Entrapment' from the same year!

If you love the family dynamic, you absolutely must watch the third film. It follows a grown-up Alex on his own dig, and the troubled relationship he has with his dad. AND, it begins with Evie having written their adventures into popular romance novels. A good continuation of the series, with its own happy ending. Do please reconsider watching the third (last) Mummy film.
