I think Brendan Fraiser has gotten the closest to any actor at recapturing the Harrison Ford Han Solo/India Jones character's vibe. Competent when he needs to be hilariously unlucky when he's not. Also, The Mummy is the perfect mix of action, adventure and humor.

A bit of trivia: In the scene in the prison when Rick was being hanged. The apparatus holding onto Brendan Fraser failed and the rope was actually choking him. Fraser passed out and had to be revived. He came very close to actually dying on that set. But being the trooper he is, he got back up and finished the scene. One issue Brendan had in the aftermath of filming this trilogy, was having done his own stunts he ended up with bad back issues and had to undergo several surgeries to fix the issues. That left him unable to work for a goodly portion of the 2000s. Also he was sexually assaulted by a member of the voting board of the Golden Globes and blacklisted as he did call out the guy. After the Golden Globes were called on the carpet for their own conduct, Brendan Fraser was vindicated after he made his "Me Too" allegation public. In the aftermath of that, he was offered the role in Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale" and it was for that film he won the Best Actor in a Motion Picture Oscar. He is now very sought after and has stated he'd be willing to come back as Rick O'Connell.

I had such a crush on Rachel in this movie. She was doing the "a-dorkable" thing before it was cool. This one is such a great mix of Hollywood's classic adventure movies given a modern flare. The most radical thing about it was the director's take on the mummy not just being a monster in bandages, but almost closer to a Dracula type. One of my faves, and Brendan Fraser's best for sure.

Evie's brother Jonathan, played by Scottish John Hannah, first came into the public eye in "Four Weddings and a Funeral". 100% guarantee you will love it. Brendan Frasier did come back, having just won an Oscar this year for "The Whale". He had been blacklisted after he claimed he'd been sexually assaulted by the former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Fraser was in another really fun movie in 1999, "Blast from the Past", which I also recommend. But I'll always remember him best from "George of the Jungle".

A few things about Jonathan, Evie's brother! He gets a lot of flack sometimes for being a "coward" in the movie and maybe immature, but we get clues he was a soldier (probably in WWI). I saw them both once or twice in life on TV and I don't feel any desire to see them again. The only funny thing I remember from mummy 3 is literally the last sentence. Jonathan said he will go somewhere else to never see mummies again. Like Peru. Soon after, there were mummies in Peru. The mummy 1 and 2 on the other hand are timeless classics that I rewatch every time I see another RU-vid reaction and I am still entertained by them. Fun fact: During the opening shootout introducing Rick, he loads his rifle after each shot to keep "rapid-fire" topped off for dire situations. Because the Lebel 1886 features a magazine cutoff that allows soldiers to hold rounds "in reserve." Also, in regards to Rick's hanging.... yes. Brendan Fraser legit did the stunt. But something went wrong, and he was nearly killed but managed to be given CPR in time and made a full recovery. ALSO also, when Carly said that (9:20 - 9:24), I found it pretty ironic, when you find out: 1. The director of this movie did the live action 1994 Jungle Book movie, which heavily inspired Disney's 1999 animated Tarzan, ironically release the same year as this movie. 2. Fraser was actually offer the role to voice the Disney animated version of Tarzan, but got turned down for Tony Goldwyn (Ghost). And Rachel Weisz had got some inspiration from the character Jane to play Evelyn. And I can totally see the similarities in both movies.

The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. I love Rachel Weisz as the brainy, beautiful leading lady, Brendan Fraser as the adventurous man of action, and Arnold Vosloo as the chief villain. Also, they did get the mummification practices correct when Evy described how ancient Egyptians removed people's brains (minus a slight omission): They used the hook to also punch a hole in the person's skull so the brain drained out when they were rolled over. And I always get jumpscared when Jonathan is toying around in that damned sarcophagus, no matter how many times I've seen the movie. Also, regarding the debate of camels VS horses: Horses are faster, but camels have higher levels of stamina and are adapted for life in the desert. Even though they DO eventually need to eat and drink, they can survive for 15 days without water and can use the fat in their humps to nourish themselves, they also have long eyelashes to keeps sand and dust out of their eyes and their feet are big and wide to evenly distribute their bodyweight (A dromedary, or one-humped camel weighs between 880-1,320 pounds, while a Bactrian, or two-humped camel weighs between 990-1,100 pounds) so they don't sink in the sand.

Brendan Fraser had such a unique place in the 90s as a funny action hearthrob who was also gentle and respectful. George of the Jungle, Encino Man, The Mummy, Blast From The Past. Comeback king Brendan Fraser was the cool swashbuckling adventurer most of us grew up with, his chemistry with Rachel Weisz is off the charts and this is a perfect companion piece to Indiana Jones. Do watch the sequel The Mummy Returns as it's even better and has more Rick and Evie again. Other Brendan movies to check out are Blast from the Past with Alicia Silverstone (you both will LOVE that one), School Ties, With Honors, Gods and Monsters, Bedazzled and of course The Whale which he just won his Oscar for. One thing that I love about this movie is how Brendan Fraser portrayed Rick O'Connell. He seems very traditional male on the surface, but he recognizes when someone else should be in charge, including Evie. He willingly and without question steps aside for her to do her thing and listens to her and takes her seriously. His acting shows that it's natural for him.
