death by degrees starring nina williams from tekken is a tekken spinoff starring nina williams from tekken. also its basically a resident evil game! #tekken #tekken8 #deathbydegrees
Wow all the games you play are the ones I remember and think the same about them too love the content never go mainstream with the games keep them hidden Jankerpieces coming. Waiting for you to do a video on chaos break by capcom hint hint !!! Pure Jank
@@the_glove Oh, man, that sounds great. I could see him avoiding traps with his speed and flexibility, like that game show Hole In The Wall, as well as setting traps like Tecmo's Deception series of games. This is a really good idea.
There was a weird era of trying to make video game characters “virtual idols” to star in multi media projects. Sprits within is the other example top of my head. Feels way ahead of it’s time, and would be a banger today. Luckily we at least have the ps2 Jank Version of this idea.
This came from that weird struggle era of Namco shortly before they merged with Bandai when they were trying everything (the same era that brought us Katamari and Idolmaster and Taiko) ...there's a part of me that wonders why Nina, or if it would have worked better as its own thing instead of a Tekken spinoff. Of course, there's no way to tell if a spin-off will work without trying.
I remember reading somewhere once that Nina was chosen because she was particularly popular at the time, but idk if I believe that. I wonder if Namco saw what Team Ninja did with Dead or Alive Xtreme and Ninja Garden and was trying their own hand a spinning off their 3D fighting game franchise. (The clothes and renders in this game reminds me a lot of DoA)
@@nisnast If they took inspiration from Team Ninja, I am just forever salty we don't have a Ninja Gaiden-tier game with Yoshimitsu.... then again I don't see a game with him having clothing damage. I mean, imagine seeing Yoshi without his clothes... the mystique! Ruined!
I hadn't even put into perspective that all those wacky Namco games came from before the merger... have they made anything as wacky as the games from that era since? Man, it's ALL coming together now...
a lot of the people in the beat-em up/fighting game days said they would have loved spin off games of some fighting game characters in a beat em up form. It looks odd looking back at them now, but back then there was quite a portion who wanted stuff like this. Nina isnt the first one, Sub-zero got a beat em up game. I still today want a chun-li stand alone beat em up game. At least mods allowed for that in current years, being able to play fighting game character on retro beat em ups or modern action game like sifu
I know it doesn't tie in to a specific character but Final Fight started off as a Street Fighter sequel so it's cool that the FF fighters would later be added to Street Fighter. I feel like both beat em ups and fighting games have always been kind of intrinsically linked. Even Tekken 3 had that fighting game mode.
MK had three spin off games, one with Jax, one with Sub Zero, and another one with Liu Kang and Kung Lao. Also, Mortal Kombat Armageddon also had a beat n up mode with original characters and plotline (which I remember being hard as fuck but I somehow beat it as a kid)
Conceptually this game sounds really interesting, a hybrid between classic survival horror and 3D brawler is a neat idea, I don't know what possessed them to go for such a weird control scheme tho.
-Shhh, it's early.. Go back to sleep. It'll still be there in three hours. -But Baaaaabbbe, I wanna watch it now! All the other cool kids are watching now!
Man, I really do keep forgetting that she's Irish. I think it's the fact she has a "US" sounding accent, even if it makes sense for an international assassin to be a vocal chameleon.
I legitimately love this game... played the hell out of it when it came out. Thor, you're the best bro thank you for being you and making this content. love you! also wondering if you would ever cover hybrid heaven from the n64
I knew you’d make a video on this game eventually. I feel like if the controls could just be reprogrammed to buttons like an actual action game, this game would have been super fun.
I hyped this video before I watched it so much and shared it to my friends who know how much I adore the campy naughty sister Nina. I didn't know this game existed and getting it now narrated by my favourite youtube content creator has been a gift.
I had a lot of fun with this game at the time. It was trying out experimental game mechanics and while not all of the ideas were executed well, it was still cool and unlike others in the same genre.
Okay low key hyped for that look at the Tekken 2 aesthetic, it's something I always adored back when it was new and while the series has kept a little bit of it nothing has really matched up to my memories of 8th grade sleepovers where the game would be played for hours on end.
I love this game, its a mix of Resident Evil with Metal Gear and Tekken. The controls are absolutely shit but if you put hundreds of hours to master it, you can do extremely complex combos as if it was a fighting game. I wish the controls were easier but without the sensitive right stick to do the attacks it wouldnt be possible to include every single move Nina has. It has tons of secrets and replayability, a pretty good story and the best personality and background Nina ever had before Harada turned her into a meme.
This was a fun video, got to appreciate some bits of death by degrees but I still don't think I'd play it Looking forward to the Tekken 2 video though!
Gods, I remember being kinda hype for Death By Degrees, and then playing a borrowed copy. I was too proud to play on Beginner. I really should have stuck with it, the game does look really neat from what you've shown.
Thank you Mr. Heels. Perfect video to relax to as the edibles hit and I'm all relaxed. To tell you the truth I was a Tekken fan but at the time I never heard about the game. So the marketing campaign wasn't enough.
This is exactly like how I remember that one PS1 game where you press directions as shown on screen to fight. Except the reality is that this one lets you actually move your character.
Wow all the games you play are the ones I remember and love in a Jank sort of way. Love the content never go mainstream with the games keep them hidden Jankserpieces coming. Waiting for you to do a video on chaos break by capcom hint hint !!! Pure Jank
The controls in this game seem like something someone came up with at the last moment so the game was different from Namco’s Urban Reign from the same year. You look at Tekken's Nina Williams in: Death by Degrees and it’s kind of like: Damn, I wish this had played more like Urban Reign.
Gotta click the like button in time with the ending gunshot. It's mandatory. Something about the combat footage leads me to believe that they intended a system with high and low attacks to get around shields and the like, but the flinging stick thing just doesn't fit it. Why they couldn't do a Devil May Cry-esque control scheme is a question for the ages.
Thank you for your well thought out and insightful videos. They are really fun to watch. Keep up the great work. P.S. I think the Idea that pluton is a Mole is really cool lol
I posted this in the wrong place. ThorHighHeels my man, you rock though regardless. I have literally watched about every piece of content you have put out for us because I just love the slightly unhinged style you have of making videos and discussing things, it makes them very fun and somewhat relatable. Keep up doing what you are doing, you are really great at it.
Fun fact this was the first game I played on an emulator. Its very special to me. They really nailed the atmosphere in some areas to the point where i just stopped and had to soak in the vibez. The controls take a bit to get used.
The PS2 spin-off we should had was Devil Within. Instead of that effortless 鉄拳TEKKEN 5 beat ‘em up existing, it would be an open-world M-rated game starring Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima as playable protagonists. Jin's story mode being a River City or Yakuza-like adventure and Kazuya's being a Grand Theft Auto-like crime spree. Also Heihachi Mishima as a major boss and unlockable character after the entire game is 100% complete.
Honestly Death by Degree's can still make a comeback as a Hitman style game starring Nina, Anna and Steve. You can throw in Lei for the Jackie Chan flavor.
I believe theres a few Tekken bootlegs on the NES which are hilarious to play. Could be interesting topic to tackle some of the weird bootleg fighting games as theres quite alot of them.
Alright thor you really grab my attention with your thumbnail design...what exatly u use to create all of those funky looking fonts and thumbnail those are just so cool
Hey big dog, I really need you to check out Radiata Stories on the PS2. Criminally underrated JRPG that is super unique. If anyone could do the intricacies justice it would be you. I'd love for the game to get a little more exposure too because it's one of my favorites but no one has heard of it. Just know that it is a bit of a time investment.
You're supposed to time your strikes with the enemy's in order to parry, its actually quite fluid and gets you into a rythm once you nail it down. I won't stand for the bismirching of tank controls and fixed camera angles.
Will this video eventually segway into Urban Reign? I enjoyed that Namco game, i have fond memories of playing alongside Beatdown: Streets of Vengeance.
