In this reaction we take a look at Harmony's video titled: The Mystery of the Eastern Orthodox Church. The mystery of the Eastern Orthodox Church encompasses its profound and mystical approach to the divine and the sacred, which permeates every aspect of its theology, liturgy, and spiritual life. Central to this mystery is the concept of theosis, or deification, where believers are invited to partake in the divine nature through the transformative power of God's grace. The Church views sacraments, or "Holy Mysteries," such as the Eucharist, Baptism, and Chrismation, as means of experiencing and participating in this divine reality. The mystical theology of the Eastern Orthodox Church emphasizes an experiential knowledge of God, achieved through prayer, ascetic practices, and the veneration of icons, which are seen as windows to the divine. This profound sense of mystery underscores the Church's belief that the divine truth is ultimately beyond human comprehension, inviting the faithful into a continual journey of deeper spiritual understanding and union with God.

The reason why The Orthodox Church has more of a sense of duty/required dedication to it's faith is because of what is being offered wich is the entirety of Christ's self, and since Christ is offering the entirety of himself to his followers, they are expected to give the entirety of themselves to him.

Harmony has many Very Well edited and structured videos. Edit: a Channel i also recommend especially for The life of saints Is Trisagion films. They are more Visual in terms of Painting cause they paint most their stories while Harmony is very well edited.

It quite literally translates to "God-bearer", which is exactly what the Theotokos is. Mary bore God in her womb.

Harmony videos are very good and well edited but they are very difficult for beginners. I would rather start with the "Bible Illustrated" channel.

I liked your banter, and your interaction with the content, guys. I wonder what changes in this existence if we say there is no God/spirituality/magical thinking?

A bit to unpack here.. On one hand..I appreciate the effort that the makers of the video you reviewed put into it. I also get, with making a video like that, they want it to be “catchy”, which comes out in themes, and being a little dramatic. On the other hand.. I’ve been Orthodox for 21 years and.. I don’t want to be critical (and like I said, I appreciate the effort) but.. I didn’t really like it (not your video, the video you’re reviewing). Like for example, ya’ll mentioned a “oogie boogie” theme. That feeling was created by the video. Sure, there are some really old monasteries, with burial crypts etc. that might give that feeling irl, but the feeling in your typical Orthodox Parish is very light, and warm, and peaceful. My main complaint with it though is the way that some of the things were worded. It’s not that the information was “wrong”, but that as you kind of touched on.. it was worded in a way that was confusing to someone not familiar with the teachings it was talking about, and what’s worse is that it would be easy to draw conclusions from it that are not correct. Example: Orthodox Christian Theosis does NOT teach that we become “gods” as in separate little deities. I felt that the way they explained that left a lot of room for misunderstanding. I also felt it was unnecessarily complicated (on that topic). In his book “Divine Energy: the Orthodox path to Christian Victory” Fr. Jon Braun gives the metaphor for Theosis of a Sword in Fire. I like to simplify it one step further, and just say Metal in Fire. The Metal represents our Human Nature, the Fire represents God’s Divine Nature. We don’t know Fire by it’s Essence, we know it by it’s energies which are Heat & Light. When we put Metal in Fire (in union with it) it remains Metal, but it begins to radiate the Heat and glow with its Light. But the Fire is the source of the Heat & Light, and the Metal is dependent on its union with the Fire to radiate the Heat & Light. The very second that it is removed from the Fire, it cools and darkens. And so it is with us. We are Human. We will NEVER possess our own Divine Nature..Full Stop. However.. by union with God through Jesus Christ, who participated in our Humanity, we can (as written in Scripture in 1 Peter) “Become partakers of His Divine Nature”. God is always & forever the source. Thank you, I enjoyed watching your reactions and commentary on the video P.S.- If I seem to be coming down hard on the vid reviewed, it’s because in western countries like the US, Orthodoxy is still not well known or understood, and it’s very important when Orthodox share information about it, that it’s communicated effectively & clearly with thought for the level of understanding of the person watching/listening/reading. The last thing we need is for misunderstandings to go viral.

Ironically, the video of Mystery is my IRL piont against them, they play with words that could lead to polythiesm as dharama teaches and/or other eastern philosophies teach. Still great vid, visuals very theatrical.

I wouldn’t say so. They use appropriate Terminology. But this video could be misunderstood by uneducated on that matter. Wich is why i Only recommend that channel to people who already know some about Orthodoxy. God bless.

My primary religion is this orthodox christianity, since childhood I had great enthusiasm about that, but as I grow I started asking questions and I saw smth is not right, smth is hidden, those who say they know they dont know, they are hypnotized by others who are also hypnotized. A virus spread from generation to generation. I seek truth.

I am an Orthodox Christian. I became one being a former atheist who was suicidal. When I reached into the unknown for God, it was the Christian God who reached back. It was Him who told me to "Go to the Orthodox Church" word for word. I have never looked back nor anywhere else. The Orthodox faith is where I found healing and salvation. It is where I have found the ultimate and universal truth of Jesus Christ. There is nothing hidden in Orthodox Christianity for those who search deeper knowledge of their faith. Seek and ye shall find.

Yes the atmosphere in this religion is like that cause it is organized, with purpose to keep you low and control you. In fear, guilt, shame - they give you the 7 sins, and not the 7 rights. There are 7 chakra rights - to be, to feel, to act, to love, to speak, to see, to know.
@codius5042
@codius5042 3 дня назад
It is not about anyone exerting control over you. The seven vices, the seven sins, are tools for YOU to control yourself. To reflect upon your own vices, and to repent.
@codius5042
@codius5042 3 дня назад
Likewise, there are 7 virtues which the Church teaches us to attain: Humility, patience, kindness, diligence, charity, temperance, and chastity by which we can defeat the vices.

@@Lusinic Not all Hindu's believe in trinity. 'Hindu" is an umbrella term for Indian religions, some monotheistic, some polytheistic, some similar to Christianity in Trinity, but most not.
@Sagemaze
@Sagemaze Месяц назад
@@Lusinicthe trinity is Nothing Like any other religion. Hinduism is also Nothing like What the Video explains. If you’d watch to the end, they literally touch on that. Buddhism believes in an Ultimate Nothingness, and Hinduism in an Ultimate unity. Both, completely different than what Orthodoxy Theology teaches.
