The Name of the King | 6 Days a Sacrifice - Days 4-6 [4 - Finale] 

Until it happened, I completely forgot we got that flash forward to Malcolm. The final sequence going through the manor is so cool and tense, love it. Speaking of the date inconsistency between the first game and the rest, it's odd that Yahtzee didn't take the special edition rerelease as a chance to correct it. I guess he wanted to preserve that flaw for the sake of sticking to his mistake or something? Suggestions for other little-known games, huh? Nothing is immediately coming to mind with quite this level of weird and unsettling (aside from the slew of Yume Nikki inspired RPGMaker horror games Ariah probably already knows about (on that note, there's now an online in-browser way to play Yume Nikki and a bunch of fanmade spinoffs for easy access) ), but when it comes to cult classic mid-2000's freeware games that are incredibly well-made and not enough people know about/have played, I cannot pass up a chance to mention Iji, because everyone who has never played Iji needs to play Iji at least once. Seriously, this game is some top-notch eldrich horror. Plus the way it takes the first two games of the series, which were designed more as separate but related thriller/suspense horror, expands on the hints of eldrich horror from Notes, and ties them all together so well is just incredibly well-done. Not exactly a feel-good ending, of course, but that's sort of part of the genre. I was quite satisfied with it, myself, though I can see how without the clarification of the special edition, it could leave players of the original release not feeling too charitable about it, due to lingering questions, since there's some interpretation required for that sequence if you don't have the text. Sort of like the backlash with Homestuck Act 7, come to think of it, where all the information to understand it is provided, but it's not immediately apparent, so people expecting a clean and simple wrap-up were left with lingering questions. Thank you for giving me this chance to revisit the series, as well as watching Jay experience it for the first time. I am SO excited for Hollow Knight in a few days!
