In a game and weekend that has CLEARLY lost its luster in recent years, amid the appalling lack of defense and overall effort--this year was the worst yet...
Kobe not the face of competitiveness, bro quit against the suns , needed the refs in 2002 and 2010 , tried to recruit Dirk and choked in 04 trying to up stage Shaq , Jordan , bird and magic are the face of competitiveness
@@andresdelportillo9917nah you’re still too young. Only Bill Russell is representative of true competitiveness. All these other players after him were a bunch of weak bitches
@@andresdelportillo9917na. A player has highs and lows. But to say Kobe was not competitive, you just hating or never seen him play. Or maybe seen him play against the suns only. Or blind. 😂😂😂
The current NBA is representative of its biggest star. No competitive spirit, player entitlement, and just a general lack of appreciation for the fans and the players that built the league.
@@suntansuperman26these bozo’s only care about their bank accounts, competitive runs at the ymca are way more entertaining than this crap. I don’t even bother watching nba basketball anymore nothing to learn from the game it’s basic and hella boring. Everyone’s got the same gimmick, I atleast can say I respect kyrie irvings game though he actually is exciting to watch. The rest of these bozo’s wanna be steph so bad to the point where it’s fucked up the game entirely, the flow and overall fundamentals of the game goes out the window once everyone starts jacking up 3’s, not playing defense and just conversing their energy for solely offensive purposes
Why should they care though? Honestly why bother in this game when the actual prize is to win a championship. The NBA is a long season with alot of games. Most of these players would like to rest and get ready for the next 27 games. Take Luka for example. He's currently in 7th place with the Mavs and has been playing a league leading 37 mins a game. He would want rest going into an important Suns match up that gets the team to 5th place if the Mavs win. Why would Luka risk fatigue and aggravation of an ankle injury which has bothered him this season causing him to miss games. Why risk that for an all star game where a guy can score 50 and no one actually cares (e.g. KAT). If you're the fan of a players from any team, you'd want your star to play as little as possible and focus on playing for their team in a meaningful game.
If players are that concerned about getting injured when they’re SUPPOSEDLY better than ever, something is wrong with the way they are taking care of their bodies. It’s almost like playing hard somehow makes you stronger, while going soft makes you softer.
Sad, embarrassing and PATHETIC. Realistically we started down this path right around the 2011 season when some scrub crawled to south beach with his “talents”
As if Jokic and Luka werent disgraceful out there. Euro guys who dont know how to play defense and get away with it because of their size/offensive skill
@@Reaper13-hi3yo lol Jokic is 11th in Defensive rating and 7th in Defensive win share in front of SGA, Giannis and Emsneed on top of been first in defensive +/-., 4th in rebounds per game, 17th for seals per game (1st for centers) and the only stat where he is average(not even bad) is blocks per game. Denver has the best clutch defense this season. Jokic is without a doubt one of the best players you can put in your defense to make it better.
@@peterruskov ... except when he plays Embiid because Embiid is a true 2-way big man unlike Jokic. What about Doncic? Or are you just a Joker meat rider?
@@skap_attack The NBA ASG was so bad that I came up with 5 one liners in less than 20 minutes in the comments section to describe how I really feel about the ASG.
The real fans know this fact. The NBA has catered to LeBum so much that it brushes aside Kobe who was great and had more competitive spirit in his pinky than today's NBA.
Angry Old Hoops just posted a video of the 1987 All Star game on his channel. The difference is like night and day. The amount of defense and hard play makes the current game look disgusting. I've seen better defense and effort from the Globetrotters and the Washington Generals. Why anyone continues to support the NBA boggles my mind. I would rather watch the British Basketball League. They may not have the talent, and it still looks a little too offensive for me, but at least they play the game. And they seem to not mind contact. In the '87 game, they ask first time all stars what it's like to be picked to play. They actually respect and value their chance to play. Today's players can't even pretend to care.
Back in those days it was an opportunity to shine and prove that you can also challenge and be on par with the best of the best, Kevin Garnett's "bring it on sucker" pose says it all, thet respected the game and wanted to be better than anyone else, even in the all-star, days long gone 😔
It’s a complete farce and joke. Even more embarrassing than the uncontested threes is the absolute layup line up and down the court. Karl Anthony towns figured it out. He could just jog up and down the floor for easy dunks. Absolutely pathetic.
It was the in second quarter of that 87 All Star game that Dr. J tackled Hakeem to prevent him from a wide-open dunk. You couldn't imagine something like that today!
I just watched an old Kobe interview, and it really hit when he said players play harder at pickup games at UCLA with no fans. This is suppose to be the greatest pickup game on the planet. Let's face it; players today don't know what being competitive means anymore. 3:08 168 3s????? This has to be fixed at the youth level.
EXTREMELY well said. This is a PLAYER issue as much as it is a rules changes one. The MENTALITY of the players these days is not to compete and defend. It’s contrary to every other previous generation.
I remember when I was a kid I used to wake up in the middle of the night to watch the all star game (I'm from Europe) even if I had school the next day. Nowdays I wouldn't watch the game even if paid. And the sad part is that the celebrity game was more competitive.
@@skap_attack i dont understand why you cant accept the all star game for what it is now. a match played to give us some funny moments, laughs and clips
@@amachiftis Because this match in its current state is just dreadful and boring to watch without the funny moments or laughs you talked about. Fans have every right to call them out to not let an event everyone once cherished keep sinking to the abyss. So no, we will not accept for what it is.
I think being ridiculously wealthy has something to do with it. For instance, Scottie Barnes is a first time all star making about $8 million this year. Charles Barkley made about $4 million per year when he was at the peak of his powers playing for the Suns. Most of the guys on the court have made at least $100 million. It's totally insane and these players are so disconnected from average people.
Would you rather the owners just keep the money? Or would you rather them arbitrarily reduce the prices of tickets and spit in the face of supply and demand?
I quit watching the NBA long time ago. NBA barons, including many star players (but not all) just worship money, and bow to dictators (e.g. Chinese communist party). The NBA charge an arm and a leg for the games, and we make them rich. Instead, college basketball is much more entertaining, exciting, and supporting them young people student-athletes is much better.
I hope the NBA's viewership goes down as long as the trend of no defense continues, so thaat the NBA can change up the rules and officiating so that playing defense would be possible and beneficial
Unfortunately that won't happen due to the mindless casuals that know nothing about basketball, believe in all the media lies and happily pay for all the shit the league throws at them, pretty much in the same Hollywood fashion, they just consume.
I have never been a fan of All Star Games, but this one is utterly embarrassing: the winner scored 211 points, while the loser had 186? A total of FIVE free throws the whole game? THREE personal fouls committed by both teams combined? No defense & no effort, but lots of showboating -- some of which didn't work. The players were probably more concerned about avoid injury than they were winning or playing the game. Shame on them.
The only 2 things that were good this weekend were Mac's dunks (especially his first dunk) and Sabrina vs Seth. Actually, the court being a screen was pretty good as well. That's it.
Honestly this brand of basketball is absolutely unwatchable, they are just shooting 3's, no post up game, no mid range, no defense, it's embarrassing. Euro league is much more interesting than what I am witnessing in the NBA, at least there they play defense, and the tactics from the Euro league is off the charts, you get a sense that both teams are playing with strategy in a euro match, also their basketball is still physical.
@@Ty-by6mzTaking 3's is not a problem, it spreads the floor, keeps the defense on their toes, but taking too much 3's is a problem, it destroys the other aspects of the game like post up plays and mid range. Also the main thing that made this all star game the worst ever is mainly the lack of any defensive effort. Completely unwatchable basketball.

The injury risk is just a lame excuse. Im not expecting them to contest every layup (they don't do it in the regular season anyway, because every contact is called for the offence). This lack of effort is just entitlement and "resting" as a superster who gets millions and a break as well.
Yeah, Luka with the 7/7/7 don't give a shit about this game. He and Joker both. And I don't blame them. All-Star weekend is not serious basketball, it is purely an entertainment show, and Luka and Joker don't care about that, they are in the NBA to play the game (and make money), and the All-Star weekend is fluff they have to do, even if they don't care about it.
Jokic at least pretended to try a little bit more 😄😄, the steal and fast break he did was pretty good. He and Luka were mostly there to catch up and fooling around each other lol @@yndsu
@@edgar1782 yeah, Jokic tried a bit more, but as you said, they were just goofing off and enjoying eachother company. They look like brothers when hanging out. And I can't say I blame them. The All-Star weekend is like busy-work for them, and they just want to get back to the usual work.
Good job calling this crap out. I don’t know what “data” Adam Silver is looking at, but it’s pretty clear the fans detest this boring lack of defense. Hopefully people pressuring the league will force them to fix it, but at this point, I’ve almost completely lost hope.
The thing that sucks is the fact that there’s STRETCHES of the game of legit , half court shot, make or miss, then the same thing coming up the other end of the floor. It’s sad because they don’t even do those CRAZY dunks and alley oops and streetball style to it like I used to see growing up in the late 2000’s and 2010’s. They made it the classic all star game as if it was going to be better than the other format where AT LEAST they play serious in the last quarter. The game was over by the 3rd quarter.. All star games are supposed to be a game full of ALL STARS & superstars, so that we can see the best of the best in the league play together against another set of the best of the best, no role players.
The NBA is a joke nowadays. The all-star game is supposed to showcase its stars. Not be a pregame shoot around. All this was missing was the guys on the bench holding a few beers and smoking cigars while watching the game. It looked like a bunch of friends who got together just to throw up shots for no reason.
I quit watching the NBA long time ago. NBA barons, including many star players (but not all) just worship money, and bow to dictators (e.g. Chinese communist party). The NBA charge an arm and a leg for the games, and we make them rich. Remember when the all-star game was special because not only did the stars compete but they pulled moves they would only try on the playground. Memorable moves have been traded in for 3pt jacks
Exactly. I still remember when Dominique Wilkins scored his '360' move (he did it twice) during the 1986 all star game. To me, he was the Michael Jackson of the NBA (when Jackson wasn't Wacko Jacko yet). Great souvenir!
I watched the 1987 All Star game last night as it popped up in my feed. It was very high scoring but there was actual defense and effort put in. Olajuwon even fouled out.
I couldn’t wait to get your take on this. Genuinely embarrassing for the league considering how much they try to hype and sell All Star weekend as a premiere event.
The NBA this last decade must have meant N-ot B-asketball at A-ll. Inflated stats, no defense, load management bs, no travelling and carry calls, cringefest flopping, self-proclaimed GOATs, whiny narcissist me-first mentality over winning and the team.
Just watched the 2005 all star game where there were steals, blocks, defense, poster dunks on top defensive attempts and coaches were going off if someone wasn't playing hard enough. Even the miced up players were only talking about effort and defense. It was a close game too.
Whoever says this era of the NBA is the best ever has a 2 in the beginning of their birth year. The 90s BY FAR was the decade of the superstars, and they were superstars on both sides of the court. They got paid a tenth of what today's players get paid but tried ten times harder in the All-star game. It's a joke nowadays. I don't wanna spend 3 hours watching the best of the best fuck around like practice just ended. I turned it off in the third because frankly, sleeping early seemed more interesting. For the youngins who think they know better, go watch any All-star game from the mid 90s to the early 00's. HUGE difference in effort.
Can't even blame Luka and Jokic for not trying at all in such an unserious All Star game, but at least they made it more entertaining than just a 3 point chuckfest!
For the record - I am from Philly. Was at Kobe’s last game here when he got a standing ovation and thanked the crowd. The rivalry between Kobe and Philly came from comments he made during the 2001 finals saying he was coming here to rip the city’s heart out. People took that personally. But by the end of his career it was totally different. He celebrated the Eagles 2017 SB win with the city. So it was nice to see that relationship repaired.
Kobe did rooting for the Eagles to win the Super Bowl was the one of the proudest moments ever .. Let’s not forget that Kobe Bryant won the All-Star MVP in Philadelphia. but Philadelphia fans Boo him that was low class…. And Kobe took himself very personal .. But in the end he won 5 NBA championships. But in the end in 2016, they gave Kobe a standing ovation in Philly. I think that was a healing moment if you consider it . but the Philadelphia fans still wondering what if that Kobe was on the 76ers..
Dame won two trophies he did not deserve. 1. The 3-point champ trophy, only tied to Sabrina, should've been given to Steph. 2. All-star MVP, only scoring 39 points out of the outrageous 211 undefended points. He's the face of this year's TRASH all-star game, very fitting. Both trophy feels undeserving.
@@JKJskeete I said "it feels undeserving" I could've given the guy credit, but he's a walking brick. A career 37% 3-point shooter, and his fans can't see he's a walking brick. Winning hardwares on the weekend and going back to bricking at 34% in season. He barely won those two trophies, but his fans will equate those to "he has multiple 3-point champ trophies" and thus always say he's on the same level as Steph. It's annoying, numbers don't lie, he's not guarded more than Steph, but he keeps bricking, but his fans are blind. If he's truly a great shooter around 40% (but he ain't) I will give him credit, I just don't want the illusion he's on the same level of shooting as Steph just because he has those trophies.
as Barkley himself said once, what's the point of playing hard and risking yourself an injury for a game that means nothing? but these guys could at least pretend better and try to sell this product. They clearly aren't.
Funny how the lebron jocksniffers constantly tell us the league has never been better, yet ratings continue to decline and are the worst they’ve been since the 70’s. Fans constantly booed during the dunk contest and all star game. If the product is the best it’s ever been, why does the league keep having to change rules and make alterations to the game to try to improve the product? There’d be no need to make improvements if it was as great as they tell us it is.
You would think there'd be at least one player who would speak up and say, "Come on guys, this is embarrassing." Even when the NFL's Pro Bowl was going through this sort of thing, you had a couple of guys who at least tried.
Bro stop it I know you saying that because those are the years Kobe won. So how weak was the confernce if the eighth seed in 2009 was 48-34, and in 2010 it was a three way tie at 50-32 thats the eight seeds by the way. In Leastern confernce the eight seed in 2009 was 39-43 and 2010 it was 41-41 so which one was more uncompetitive 😂😂. Stop hating those were really good years you had the Spurs, Mavs,OKC,Nuggets with Melo Utah Jazz was awesome so stop it and sperading false narratives
The all star game is just a representation of the league as a whole. The nba is putting out a subpar product as a whole and it’s showing up in the ratings.
The difference between now and then is that they don’t have beef with one another. The players arnt trying to outdo each other because they’re all friends. I saw Giannis and Halliburton dapping each other up as though that whole game ball/ in season tournament fiasco never happened.
I have never seen one of your videos, but this is one of the best things I have ever seen. I could not agree more with your assessment of not only the all star weekend dumpster fire, but also the current state of the league and it's "star" players! Well said sir!
I quit following nba a long time ago, it is all about money money money. NBA barons are hypocrites, just worshipping money, nothing else. Follow NCAA basketball, them student-athletes, much more better, much more hearts out, much exciting!
I have a potential solution that I think fixes a lot: the prize for winning the allstar game is home court advantage for your conference for the NBA finals. The allstar game stays as East vs West, and the winning conference earns home court advantage for whichever team makes it to the finals regardless of the regular season records of the finalists. The majority of all star players are on teams teams that are in contention for the NBA championship, so this will create just enough incentive for these players to win the allstar game. This also gives the game just enough importance to fans to make it the highlight of allstar weekend again. Also, the current system of giving the team with the higher regular season record home court advantage is somewhat flawed since teams in the easier conference are likely to have higher records. With this new system, the better conference should be getting home court advantage, and the team that makes it to the finals from that tougher conference deserves home court advantage.
Haven't watched an NBA game in years because it's just terrible. Doesn't matter if it's the playoffs or the championship it's all a joke at this point. If I was given a suite to go and watch a team I wouldn't even bother
There was a time when All-Star weekend felt like a massive PPV event that you were looking forward to enjoying. Now? I couldn't care less if they decided to scrap the whole event altogether.
The reason Nikola Jokic and Luka didn't play that well in the all star game is because those are the only 2 guys in the NBA that don't really show boat around they're probably more focused and about business than anyone else in the NBA. Jokic is about winning he could care less about the all star game that's why he was out of his element. But I do agree that the league and all star game is trash
I didn’t get into the nba until the 2022 playoffs and I’ve been hooked ever since. One of the things that confused me when I watched my first all star game in 23, was that it felt like no one was trying. It felt so weird to me because originally being a nascar fan, they would have an all star race where the 20 best drivers would race hard for like 50 laps for a million dollars and it was some of the best racing ever. The point I’m making was that I expected the nba stars to go out and compete against each other to see who’s the best of the best. I hope this is fixed in the future
No wonder Jokic and Doncic were not performing in this parade. Good players need real pressure to hyper focus. The mind just isn't taking a training seriously.
What's funny is they named the award "kobe bryant" to a game that is full of clowns jumping around, jogging, hopping and shooting lazy threes They should just name it: *Mambum Mentality Award*
Skap, you need to start using a cut of Wemby saying "what the fu*k is this?" during his interview with the TNT crew this weekend. It describes this all star game to a T, and goes perfectly with situations where you would use "it's a complete crap!"
I absolutely love how this channel just delivers pure, unadulterated disrespect. I pray to God that one day theres a sports analyst who talks like this in the middle of a trash NBA or NFL game
They don't care about it but they don't want it to be canceled too. Since Instagram blowing up, why not easy money? But they don't want to play basketball either. Every single one of these players is a walking dictator. They want everything and give nothing.
Like in the past couple of years this was totally a crap. The fans wait all year to see the best player compete and this is all only a show. No competition and basically no defense at all. I changed the channel before the half. Just a total waste of time.
The 3pt shot is what's ruining basketball My solution 20-25 attempts per game per game If you go over The opposing team shoots a technical foul shot and keeps possession Or the 3pt shot can be used the last 2 or 3 minutes of each quarter
Remember that look that Kobe gave on the Jimmy Kimmel show when he saw his teammates celebrate a win like they won the championship? I think that would be the reaction that he would have if were asked about this game...
That video of the Dream Team pickup game is what the All Star game should look like every year. It’s ironic that it was at the all star game that Kobe got on LeBron for not taking the last shot
