Rudy Gobert was recently fined 100k for his comments and gestures inferring that NBA referees are tossing away games because they may have betting money on the game, which in turn caused an uproar in the NBA community. In this video I take a closer look to see if Rudy Gobert truly has a point in his statements.

You sorta touched on it but one thing to note is when players are suspended from games they also don't get their full pay. The 5 games suspension for Draymond assaulting Rudy would have cost him closer to 750k because of how that pay cut works. Devil's advocate for the league, there's been an uptick of players and coaches becoming more brazen with the public critiques of the refs and ideally these sorts of complaints should be aired out in private because in the world of business all these players and organizations are part of the same team, the NBA. If people are becoming too willing to air out the dirty laundry it's because they get paid too much relative to the fines in question, if you wanted to push these conversations back behind closed door you need to up the fine to something more substantial. At face value with the least amount of assumptions I think this could be the league telling coaches and players to respect the structure of the NBA, if the punishment doesn't hit hard enough to feel meaningful they'll make it more meaningful.

The refs are NOT on the same team though!? They are separate unions. I read this on Reddit a few years ago. That the players union should be stepping up and making some demands for change, and this was like 4 years ago or so. An example would be: The refs with the most missed calls/over turned calls/straight up bad calls at the end of the year go to the G League. Top NBA refs in those regards get paid accordingly. Top G-League refs in those stats get called up. The bottom guys in those stats in the G League get fired and sent to the WNBA🤣(they just get fired haha).

@@josereyes1148 I mean dude, this has happened before in the league at a time where betting on games wasn’t as popular as it is now. If players themselves think the refs could be colluding and throwing away games, then why can’t we? Im not saying it is absolutely happening, but to sit here and outright deny any chance the refs aren’t throwing away games is kind of mehhh. Also, there were correlations between Scott Foster and Tim Donaghy in his scandal. The league needs a new set of refs imo. New age refs. Get rid of these 30 year nba refs

@@TheDirtyBucket yea because new age refs who grew up with the gambling and would be easy to corrupt is the answer. I didn't say it's impossible but it's not fixed. I don't really care what some of these players think. They are ignorant and conspiracy theorists too. Rudy, the guy who coughed all over microphones and spread COVID when he got it. Intelligent guy really. Lol
