Hardly anyone buying this truck is towing anything more than a 5th wheel camper/toyhauler with their his and hers Harleys for a weekend playing biker in hills near the resort. These guys don't care about doubles and triples and aren't glamping in downtown LA. They want a shiny truck to show off their shiny toys and don't need/want 95 years of trucking experience to do it. Just some deep pockets.

Drew Elliott honestly i don’t see how mud would get there if you are using it responsibly with everything closed up, owning that tailgate presents a responsibility to keep it safe, and clean. If you’re using it right I would argue it would have absolutely 0 effect on the functionality of the tailgate. It’s the same as having power windows, don’t move them while there is mud on them and nothing breaks. Wash it thoroughly before it’s used and whatnot. I don’t see an issue, but that’s coming from a Jeep owner who’s only had to wash at least 500lps of mud off the last 2 summers

Great segment on the bed access (tailgate, steps, etc.), though it is amazing to me how much effort GM went through to create access to the bed when it essentially just gets them back to the old days of the eminently practical and accessible step side beds. Kudos on them getting back there, though!

Oh...perhaps banks turbo can enlighten you with a 7k rpm Duramax... Long lasting relationship...perhaps you not savvvy what I say about Duramax or Chevy...get the diesel in it's comfort zone and leave it there ... These Chevy's were abused terribly by those never should have been allowed to opperated... Jumping ditches and such...Chevy kept going...plus the hell of a wet location drilling opperations ...nothing can compare to the ability of a well maintained Chevy... Back to the Duramax...no fuel wasted in briquettes out exhaust...none...not even after banks turbo Performace jacked up... Easy 800+horse power and torque through the roof...I recomend gear vendor overdrive bettween Tran and transfer case...rpms down mileage doubled... So B's on not a Performace engine... It is if built and tuned properly...Allison tranny can handle most everything ... Again better Performace better economy better longevity... Banks turbo built is only way to go... And it'll last much longer than anything anyone can compare to... RPM is irrevalant on a well built well maintained engine gas or diesel... again Chevy kicked butt in both catagory... Average build is 5k+ rpm all day long... Performace at 7k+ lasts just as long...it's all in maintenance...the rest brands only deteriorate from initial start-up till failures...been there done that...again the other brands must be built by a professional like banks turbo to get any longevity and ability out of them...no other way ...lest ya baby them an never push to advertised potential... Been there done that...

I personally think one of GM's biggest problems is that their trucks are overpriced for the quality and features you get. Everything, even in the higher trim packages, seems flimsy and full of plastic when I have driven them. I'm really curious about the fuel mileage numbers on the new trucks, especially when towing. I think GM made a booboo when they concentrated on towing numbers instead of updating a very cheap feeling interior.
@dedalliance1
@dedalliance1 5 лет назад
I'm not sure how they feel 'cheap'. I mean I get it it doesn't have Kangaroo leather and gold plated knobs. But like, you call it cheap I call it reliable, you call it plastic I call it easily replaced, you call it outdated I call it familiar. What's the big deal? When that screen in the Ram goes out do you really wanna spend $2,000 to replace it? Or do you wanna spend $500 to replace the one in the GMC? When the leather seats get worn out do you really wanna spend $1,500 on custom stitch leather to mat the rest of the seats, or $750 for some general leather in the GMC? I mean it's a truck not a luxury Sedan or SUV these things are meant to be used and to last, lets see how well the new rams 'Fancy soft touch' dash holds up to 15 years of run and dry rot versus this GMC and see who has a nicer looking truck then, lol. But, you can spend your money on whatever you want, I'm just glad 1 truck manufacture is keeping it simple, intuitive, and cost effective to upgrade or replace.

Agreed. If they’re going to use cheaper materials, they need to be charging less. The argument “it’s a truck, so it doesn’t need to be fancy” is an asinine statement. If people needed a truck, but wanted a luxurious interior, that meant they had to buy the truck and a luxury car or suv. That’s possibly 2 vehicle payments, if they financed, and insurance on 2 vehicles. That’s far more expensive than just putting a luxury interior into a truck.

@Mr Sunshines How do I abuse an instrument cluster? What could I have done differently to stop the light bulbs in my radio, rear entertainment, steering wheel, and climate control panel from burning out? I had extended warranty on that truck til 100k. The dealer put 2 radios in it after the first one because light bulbs kept burning out. I had one steering wheel button that was never replaced, otherwise anything that lit up inside got replaced under warranty sometimes multiple times by 100k. I took immaculate care of that thing. I had extended warranty. Every little thing that ever went wrong with it got fixed. Thank God I bought the extended warranty, it had $10k worth of work done to it under warranty. I finally traded it at 130k when the Castech heads that GM knew were a problem went bad and I didn't want to pay 3k to fix it. That was my 3rd GMC truck, they were all money pits. I switched to Ford and have had much less trouble with my 13 F150 that I bought new. I loved my 05 Sierra crew but damn, I don't think I ever went 5,000 miles without it being in the shop. Oh and my 13 F150 looks like new besides a small ding in the passenger door. I religiously take care of my vehicles. So, GTFO with that take care of your stuff crap. I bet you've put 10k into your truck to keep it going or you're still driving it all clapped out. Then another Mitsubishi, ditto, then I needed to tow a heavier vehicle and bought a Chevy. Back to hell again, water pumps, gaskets, starters, alternators... then bought a dodge 3500, at 40k miles the troubles started. Very little issues is a vague answer, what is very little? One, failure? Four? One every six months? I currently have a GMC that is just over 2 years old and has had about 10-11 repairs. My old Mitsubishi with 248k miles currently, did have 2 as in TWO shop visits in 18 years until yesterday, it’s in the shop to have the water pump replaced. In 18 years and 248k miles it has had the sun for get stick open in 2017, a head gasket replaced, and now a water pump. Have 2 sbcs sitting broke one broke a crank while towing for hours with no radiator the other unknown bought it for the cylinder heads. We have 4 live and well Chevy v8s 2 might be seize from sitting for 20 years but those also had a life span starting in 72 outlasted 460s 454s 427s 440s not a single issue the heads still sealed on those two units. The other 2 are live and well ones 34 years old and still comes alive but deserves a bit of cleaning up the other rebuilt but been told that and it wasn't true so. Have a 5.3 had a tappet retainer fail over 130k miles still ran hard but wasn't happy rebuilt it she runs harder than ever and is a truly happy engine. Maybe you should look at how you take care of things. Have a Ford nothing but problems. Some are just crappy parts ac shit yeah no Ford needed to fix that. Hood doesn't work right windows failed. But engine has been taken care of by me I do all of the work have never had a single water pump failure having worked with mopars Ford and gms have yet to see a water pump failure but I also again mix my own coolant. I even make sure my oil changes are within decent intervals I make sure all of my fluids are taken care of everything. You literally dont know what your talking about. I've seen fords that needed entire engines replaced on the regular because the oil change intervals recommended by Ford cause so many issues that it wasn't funny but geuss what have a guy around here with the same engine the 5.4 3v he uses good quality oil does 3k mile oil changes his engine runs good. Maybe do some work because 3 water pumps is a very very hard to believe thing.

Towing capacities are based on frame-strength. The DOT looks mainly at frame-strength, braking capacity and vehicle stability when confirming a vehicle's tow capacity. @@lukediehl1210 yeah, that's true. But to be fair this tailgate is still quite a bit better. A step. The load stoppers. The inner gate work surface. And easy access. I think everyone likes this tailgate more, whether they admit it or not.

The tailgate step Ford has is useless it's also weak and flimsy. I would just pull myself up or use a chair. That's how useless that thing is.

The "camera" on the right side of the tailgate is actually just a light that will shine down on the hitch if you turn on the rear cargo lights.

I've been loyal to the duramax for the last 17yrs & I hear ford & ram guys brag about their trucks all day long but when the rubber hits the road I see their trucks brake down all the time. & when it comes to pulling, Duramax outdoes them everytime especially going up a hill.

That one negative about the hitch does not out weigh the positives that you get with the tailgate design. I have used the gate before and there is a lot of benefits to having that gate for a truck buyer.

I'm saying the GMC/Chevy interiors aren't nice compared the competition, especially when you are charging the same money. This interior looks like it's straight out of my old 2008 Chevy Impala, horrible and failure on GM's part.

Probably my last GM truck. Can't even retune the thing either. If i buy a truck...I should be able to do with it what I please. The fact that I cannot tune their BS computer shows me their arrogance. (And I've grown up a die hard GM guy.) I've owned 5 or 6 GM products, most notable was my CTSV which I sold last year. GM's becoming the Toyota of America. Ford and Mopar will see more of my business (Already bought a Hellcat). Only thing GM will see from me is possibly a Z06...IF it can be tuned and modified...otherwise they'll have lost me completely.

It’s certainly interesting how GM’s haters in the RU-vid comments manage to consider everything the company does that’s innovative which their competitors may fail to offer a gimmick...despite the fact that the technology and/or feature actually aids in one thing or another. The rear view camera mirror technology which would actually come in handy as demonstrated in this review is still considered a gimmick by RAM and Ford fanboys. The Multi-Pro tailgate after a million reviews & demonstrations showing the capabilities it offers and the clear advantages it allow is still considered a gimmick. ...but RAM’s 12-inch infotainment touch screen that serves the same purpose as a 8-inch touch screen is somehow revolutionary to the industry lol oh and it’s air suspension that lowers to make it easier to ingress is never before heard of or seen and somehow very much needed, a feature that is so helpful it should be standard across the segment. That makes absolutely no sense to me. 😂🤷🏽‍♂️

I have to agree with you Roman, GM was so focused on performance and adding even more tech which in of itself is awesome, they raised the bar that way, but the dropped it on the interior design. Yeah they made some needed tweaks like moving the trailer brake controller to the center stack and now have push button start and some cool camera trailering tech upgrades, but there is NO REASON for the Denali to look like the base model in layout. They should have made a 10 inch screen as standard on the Denali and High Country trims and available on the AT4, SLTs, LTZ and even LT Trail Boss regardless of truck size. Plus they could make a pano roof available in the Denali and High Country. Instead of adding leather and some wood trim with either the Denali or High Country badge in the head rest and steering wheel to differentiate the top trims. Still a fan of the trucks though, and I am glad that they upped the tow rating for all the commercial customers out there.
