We just started this for the dragon and anoles. UVB is the first on and the last off. The get one hour of only uvb before the basking is turned on. And an hour of dusk at night when the basking is turned off.
How are you getting the lightbulbs to to come one and off separately with a timer? From my understanding for it to work you'd need two separate light fixtures plugged into their own timer or a dual light fixture with a separate plug for each bulb.
NORTHERN EXOTICS long story short no because of my mental health and suffering from mental health illness but I’m into a new passionate hobby now mountain biking and loving It but I’m glad ur still in the hobby and still stuck with the channel hard and proud of how far uve came and the detail of the edits of the videos mahn keep up the hard work all love from my end brother 🤟
Great videos and content mate. Q: by using a 12% and a 6% at the same time are you providing 18% UVB, or will you only ever have the percentage of the strongest bulb at any one time i.e. 12%? Also, in your experience do reptile keepers use aquarium lighting to try and replicate dusk and dawn? The aquarium industry, particularly marine fish keeping have some very sophisticated programmable lighting systems that if used alongside the appropriate reptile uvb light source, could do a good job at recreating the day and night cycle found in some reptiles native habitat, all controlled by an app. I cant seem to find any examples of herp keepers using these products. The reptile lighting products available seem to be very basic compared the options available to the aquarium hobby
The 6 will never over power the 12 so it'll never be 18% . It will increase slightly but not to 18% . I've heard of the app your on about . You can really dive deep with the app and create thunderstorms . Lightning and other colour variations . I really can't wait for the reptile hobby to get to were the aquarium hobby is at
Richard l think this a brilliant idea and so good for them that much l know. We are certainly improving our care of them all the time. l love having my reptiles around me too and l am trying some Hemp bedding for them and going to add some plants to their enclosures as well soon.
Just looked at the price on the website can you not get this product on amazon or eBay not that money is the issue but saving for mortgage but really want this product sorry for rabbiting on but I have soo many questions haha my bad
Have a look on Amazon . There are links in the discription to my Amazon store. There will be a direct link in there for Amazon. However not to sure about eBay with how new this product is
Awesome video Richard!! Hope to see a video a couple months down the line updating how your dragon is doing under these lights! Lighting is coming a long ways in the reptile hobby especially lately. I'm gonna be building a custom enclosure for my dragon next spring so trying to decide how to do the lighting. I'm wondering if I would be able to buy and use this product here in the US... or maybe use a transformer?? lol but I think something like this used with Zoomed's Reptisun LED system would probably be the closest I think you could get to natural light. The LEDS will cover the blue and red spectrums which will also help if you have a bioactive tank with live plants in it. I have an idea of how we could take it a step further but might be something I might have to discuss with one of the companies but might start getting even more pricey and will have to see if it's even worth the cost but yeah... Love your videos keep it up!!
@@NORTHERNEXOTICS alot of new technology coming out I mean I have just hopped on the wagon i have switched my leopard gecko to a deep heat projector got rid of the heat mat and now she basks outside on a slate all day
Hey I was wondering. Would it be bad to grow grass in a sav enclosure. I litterally searched ur channel to ask this question. I think I've searched the words northern exotics more than anything haha.
Is this good for savannah monitors? I currently have 2 100watt uvbs and wanted to put uva into the enclosure too. Would I vet rid of these and just use this on its own?
I'm saving up for the biggest one of these for my Savannah monitor. I'll still be using heatbulbs aswell as this for mine. I'm still not sure weather to go mercury vapour bulbs or standard heat bulbs
@@NORTHERNEXOTICS I would like to get one also because at the moment I have 2 lights for him to mimic the sunrise and sunset ones dimmer than the other. But I'm not sure how much uvb or uva is in them. The ones on this video 6 and 12 percent I'm not sure if that would be okay for a savannah mon?
In one of my more recent videos I did a durable test. Bulbs have been in 8 months and still lasting well giving enough uvb out for my bearded dragon. Prob got another 5 months left before needing to change the bulb
They still need a thermostatically controlled heat bulb. A daylight basking uva bulb . This lighting reflects the natural uvi output the sun would have in the wild with the different wavelengths of uvb, uva, UV and ir
Love you videos bro I want 3 of these but I use living earth habitats would I need to by a different thermostat for my heat bulbs and if so which ones would you suggest I have 3 4 ft by 2 ft vivs but I also use Arcadia mercury vapour d3 basking lamps what would you suggest
And I’m after 3 new tanks for my bearded dragons if you have any suggestions because the heat bulbs keep coming on and off as I think I need more ventilation
You can not use a thermostat with mercury vapour bulbs because you'll be dimming the amount of uvb coming out of them. With this setup you have the uvb setup on timers and a normal 100w daylight basking lamp on a dimming thermostat. I use reptile systems D3 basking lamp on my Savannah monitor and it works great
Ok so with that setup I just use normal basking lamp with thermostat and plug the setup into a separate timer and I shouldn’t have the d3 basking lamp on a thermostat little bit confused lol but sure I’ll figure it out as if I just put the d3 bulb on without thermostat the basking spot gets too hot and can’t raise light anymore so I may have to cut a big vent whole in the back of the tank to compensate? I also use a 12% uvb tube light as well as the d3 Vapour bulb but there both plugged into my living earth thermostat. thanks for taking the time to reply bud much appreciated your Chanel is wkd and you should have way more subscribes and I drop a like on all your videos because you’re knowledge about reptile welfare is amazing some boy
I fitted two of these 39w units to 48" vivariums the other day, they were brand new vivs and i turned the viv upside down, it made screwing the bracket in much easier. You can also clip the bracket onto the unit, you don't have to slide it in from the end. :)
I didn't know it could be clipped. I'm loving it. I thought with only one screw in each bracket it wouldn't be as secure. It's solid . Really nice bit of kit.
My question for you is do you give your dragon more light time during the summer when we get more day time? I love the idea of providing a sunrise and sunset. You guys always get the new lighting before the USA.
I provide 12 hours on all year round just like they have in the wild of mid Australia. However some people change it around winter time to allow there bearded dragon to brumate
Hi Richard, we’re getting a bearded dragon for my boy this xmas and really appreciate all your sound advice. At this point, the only major consideration left for us is bioactive or a tiled enclosure. Obviously you like the bios, but just wondering your opinion on them for Beardies. Really looking forward to your bio gecko project.
Agreed. With bioactive if you don't have the spot on temps and humidity you could have ingestion issues. I've spent years researching Australian naturalistic setting to match the wild in the enclosure. Bioactivity is worth aiming for but after a bit of experiance
Yep, rolling towards all the gear, with no idea. I’ve researched lots, months not years, but have zero practical. Tiles it is. For now. Thanks to both of you.
