The year is 2028, we have not heard from Kingdom Hearts 4 in 6 years when suddenly there's a new trailer. And then at the end a voice says "But, the world is ever changing, for the 17th coming" and the Kingdom Hearts logo morphs into Final Fantasy 17.

I'm expecting a lot of live service garbage no one will remember by the end of the year and some random third/first person shooters and racing sports games to be all hype with them fellow kids. Anything else would be a nice surprise.

Game Developer here. I worked on a project that started in UE4 and it transitioned to UE5. Luckily we were early on, so the transition was mostly on the back end and took some engineering work. The whole thing took about 2 weeks. The further along the project, the harder this is to do. We had a few minor hiccups, but now are fully on UE5.

metaphor has been on my radar since it was conceptualised in like 2016 or something, any news I get on this game is perfect for me lol. hope it makes a splash this year.

I really hope Final Fantasy 9 Remake gets the amount of buzz it deserves when it is finally announced. Of course, I also hope that the Remake isn't just a cash grab, and that a lot of effort goes into giving that classic an awesome upgrade.

I don't trust Geoff about KIngdom Hearts 4 he seemed super sus.

What Tokyo game fest for 9 and tactics?

Remakes of classic Dragon Quest games sounds cool, but one thing I've been wanting to see is ports of the original NES versions of the first three games. I've been trying to find various top-down NES games for research, and all I've been able to find is the original Legend of Zelda. For Dragon Quest 1-3 and Final Fantasy 1-3, all I can find are ports of old remasters of those games.

10 / 10 Game Fest would be with trailers / gameplay and release dates for: GTA 6, Silksong, Smash Bros Content, new Mario Kart, Switch 2, KH 4, FF 17, Dark Souls 4, new Zelda Game

Now that Rebirth is out, the major game I'm looking forward to this year is Assassin's Creed Shadows. Although, I'm still hopeful we'll get some smaller scale games and remasters announced. Such as a FFXIII Trilogy Remaster

Whatever happens, I really hope we get a release date for Epic Mickey Rebrushed which is still coming out this year in 2024. It’ll more than likely be at the next Nintendo direct but since it’s a remake of the original game, it can’t be far off from release at all.

Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail releases 02 July. So I'd expect the next FF promotion to be closer towards the end of the year at the earliest

I'm guessing that we're not going to see anything new for KH4 until Remake Part 3 is wrapping up production. Given that Nomura is co-director of the Remake Trilogy he probably doesn't have time for KH. I'm not expecting anything too major from SE for a while. I seem to recall them saying they will not have any major releases over the next couple of years. I'm hoping we get the FFIX reveal later this year but I'm not counting on it.

The DQ HD-2D Remake turning into a trilogy has long been speculated by fans. Based on the initial trailer of DQ3R (from over 3 years ago now) the project looked quite far along. They had functioning combat, a pretty complete looking world map, at least 3 very polished locations, and scripted in-game events (which you generally don't do until later in development). So unless they showed us the sheerest of vertical slices, then there's no universe in which it takes 3 more years of dev time from that point to finish that game. And since DQ 1+2 already share a lot of assets with 3 it just makes sense for it to become the trilogy instead. They would only need to make 4 more sets of player character sprites/models? (idk how HD-2D works), and they could reuse loads of assets for the monsters and combat animations, as well as parts of the world map/locations. Personally I'm of the opinion that this game has been done for a while now, and they've just been sitting on it for the right moment to release it (letting all the other major SqEnix RPGs/DQ spin-offs in the pipline finish releasing/get out of the way).

I have zero expectations for SGF and definitely wasn’t expecting KH4. If something shows up, it’ll be a nice surprise. I’m a little bummed nothing got announced at Tales of Festival this weekend, but the Sony SoP, Marvelous Showcase, and SH Transmission were all great, and I’m looking forward to the next Nintendo Direct, so it will be interesting to see what lies ahead.

Since Final Fantasy XVI came out, this is the first time that the series has not shown up anything about the main series, and we have no clue about whats next with the franchise. Yes, we have Dawntrail this summer, but that's just an expansion of an existing game, we have Final Fantasy IX Remake, but are only rumors of it and nothing official. Even we have Final Fantasy VII Remake part 3, but it won't appear, at least, in 3 or 4 years. So, maybe, this year, square wants a break with big titles of Final Fantasy, and focus on other products. I think that, now, is a good time to announce Kigndom Hearts 4 or Dragon Quest XII for this year or the beggining of the next, and, meanwhile, continue taking out remasters or remakes, like the Dragon Quest HD 2D of the main titles of the most important franchises to have access to them on every actual platforms, like the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters for Xbox Series, the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy remastered for PS5 and Switch (or Switch 2), more games, like the one mentioned before, Dragon Quest HD 2D, but with the rest of the games of the Dragon Quest franchise for all platforms, and the same for other franchises like Mana, Saga, Star Ocean, etc. Fortunately, with the whole Kingdom Hearts series now abailable on Xbox, it can be fully played on any actual platform.

I think I am the only one out there who misses the old E3 before the influencers took over and it only became world premiers. I think it doesn't reflect the state of the industry that much, but I think state of gaming culture. People have wild expectations and get hyped for stuff that has not be confirmed. I always go in completly clear headed with "i will let it just happen and I will see what is announced." And I am almost never disappointed.

Still no words on Lunar or Arc The Lad... Xenogears even. It's fine.

I think another look at Dragon Quest XII, or even a release date for Dragon Quest III 2d/3d remake are highly probable.

This will probably be a slow year for announcements in general. The industry is going through a rough patch with the PS5 and Xbox, and the Switch is in a transitional period before the new one comes out. The state of play was pretty lackluster, and the Xbox show and Nintendo direct this month probably won’t have a whole lot going on either.

All I am waiting on is Sengoku Basara 5.

Gaming really needs to figure things out. Smaller titles need to be encouraged and supported. At the same time this year might be the first time a jrpg will win goty due to the very strong showing for jrpgs this year.

I knew 2023 was a year to good to be true when it came to gaming. I was getting a back catalogue for the first time since forever. And I'm picky as hell lol.

For me a Hypeshow would be FF7 Rebirth PC Releasedate for summer and maybe a port that is not complete barebones garbage (one might dream of DLSS 3.* or FSR 3 and what not). That would be enough game for the rest of the year for me. Bloodborne Remaster on PC would help too. But Wukong is coming, the new HoyoVerse is coming and so many other games that are not AAA but kinda seem to be good. Iam kinda okay with not getting "in development please be excited" and then the game goes dark for 5 years because the demo was all they had. There is a multitude of korean games that were announced and have gone a bit off the radar that would be cool to see again: InZOI, Project M, DokeV (which looked odd the last time but still, it is intriguing). But there is always a backlog to carry me over to whenever something interesting comes out (like getting through KH and the good other KH games before going into KH3...finally), i think i bought Persona 5 Royal and only played like 10 Minutes, because i was not in the mood for that.

Honestly the games industry as a whole has been going down year after year, with less hype for each show case every single time. It's come to the point where I literally don't expect anything good from the Triple A industry.

I think FF9R is gonna get a soft announce. One main reason is the digital content with the latest FF14 expansion. All the extra digital content is related to FF9. When talking about it in the latest dawntrail events, they said “they can’t say why it’s all related to FF9 yet” Lines up perfect with summer games fest

I don't care lol, if Kondo announced Trails in the sky remake, this is already a 10/10 for me. If we get a new lost oddysey or blue dragon remaster as teased by xbox showcase, this is the return of the golden age. I don't need AAA announcements to get me all hyped.
