This channel really goes above and beyond to make great content for such a niche subject. The cave performance was unexpected and wonderful. Awesome stuff and I hope that korg releases a low cost version of this one similar to the 2600 M or ms20 mini.
You won't be getting anything low cost in the analogue realm for at least 5 years post pandemic cool off. Since the damage to production and electronics is immense and the shortage means things like this aren't in any sort of priority at all.
This was on my GAS list since it was announced but the price kept me away. Then all of a sudden it was down to $1500 at Sweetwater over Thanksgiving. I suspected it might become discontinued and the price was great so I pulled the trigger. No regrets, it’s a wonderful and beautiful instrument.
I traded a two Speak-n-spells for a KORG 700 a few years ago. I'm very glad I did. This little synth is very expressive and really fun to play. It's also a beautifully designed instrument.
I remember seeing Gino Vannelli in Philadelphia in 1976. Before the poly synths came out, Gino had four keyboard players including his brother Joe playing single line string sounds on the multiple miniKorg to create a full string section. Gino never gets the credit he deserves for the bands early synth work.
Sam, great seeing the progression on this channel, and your production team is doing an awesome job. Always love the background and history on the equipment. Nice treat to hear an original from you. Must have been amazing playing in that cavern!
:-o That cave performance! I used to run planetarium shows and this was exactly the sort of music that we sought: otherworldly, yet still organic and beautiful. Reminds me of early JMJ, who back in the 70s remembered that music made with new technology could (and should!) still sound >musical< and not just beep-boop. Lovely composition, beautifully recorded and produced. Bravo.
Amazing as usual! A passionate history lesson with a wonderful performance. I haven't seen those caves since I was a little kid so that was an additional treat.
Wow! What a grand and highly musical demonstration! Clearly a cut above. Congratulations! You make some very lovely choices in using how you use this “simple” synth.
A classic.......reborn. I can still remember seeing one on the top of an organ in the window of the local music shop. I was in my early teens and stood there in awe.......dreaming of being able to play it.......but never did. My first synth was ( and still have today ) was a used Moog Satellite which had preset switches underneath the keys. This Korg now is a thing of beauty, it still for me retains the wonder of that first encounter. A real 'hands on' piece of art, it's gleaming metal controls and the promise of endless sound possibilities. The boy in me is still in awe................... The icing on the cake, a magical, wonderful concert performance set amongst the vast cavern that reminded me of the old synth masters of long ago.
I was going to say the exact same thing as a few others mentioned. Was super cool to get a little musical treat at the end. Becoming a big fan of this channel. They are like full made episodes here with full on script (very witty at that) story driven direction, a rabbit whole of synth history etc. A nifty passionate production indeed.
Excellent. Love that korg really thought about this reissue and made improvements but kept the character of the original. They should be delighted with the way you have covered the product in your video. Impressive performance in the 2nd half.
knokin it out of the park guys...just fantastic...its a wonderful immediate little goer isnt it? even the ensoniq got a look in...cool.. really appreciate the effort the syntaur team put in to these vids...thanx Ty from s.oz
that whole thing with the "ancient" history of the "new" KORG and the performance in the cave in comparison ,gave me chills . Well played Sam ,literally! Probably by far the best synth presentation lately. Love from Athens, Greece
Where have people like you guys been my entire life!! I have always felt like alone in my synth journey, you guys show me how wrong I was! Incredible work, keep it up!
WOW! Great demo and music. I have had a dozen 700's and 700s/K2 over the years and recently acquired the FS and I am blown away. I used to sell them because of frustration with the lack of modern feature and VIOLA! Modern feature set. Expensive but way worth it. Thank you for this. Sub.
Seriously, 👍️ for that cave performance. The video had all the usual awesome detail about the synth itself and its history, but seeing it used _like that_ was amazing. That Ensoniq was a good pairing choice too. 👏
@@Syntaur I was cleaning my music room-found a bunch of OLD Syntaur stuff I got from you. Brought back memories. WIll make inventory, and see if you want any of it. sold all my Ensoniqs-But have something very unique: an original music stand for the TS12.
Wow amazing review and so beautiful contentent music and scenary! Also it seems you are playing inside Caves of frasassi. Was you there? Absolutely amazing.
Terrific stuff Sam! Love this channel and all that Syntaur does! I was working in one of the leading second hand musical instrument chains in the early 80's and remember we had a MiniKorg 700 we'd taken in trade - I think it was marked at $79 and we ended up selling it for 59.. "if I knew then, what I know now.." Around the same time we has a CS-80 nobody wanted for $200 ugghh
Me too! I owned one that I bought in the 70s for around $300 or so. I sold it in the mid 80s for a few hundred. Who knew they would ridiculously jack up the price to more than $2k, which is insane. I have a free DAW version of it that's fine.
Love my original Minikorg! Also, Greg Hawkes still owns several Minikorgs.....I actually sold him one in 2006 and personally delivered it to him in Boston (I'd bought it in the late 90's in a rural Texas pawnshop! :-)) He's a great guy! Anyway, I've seen him play the one I sold him on a few televised performances since then. So glad that Korg reissued this classic!
Great video! The performance at the end is marvelous! I hope the beginning stays up a long time as well. Rick Beato did a "what makes this song great" analysis of one of the songs by The Cars, and it I don't think I demonetized, it got taken down with a copyright violation strike and he couldn't even get it back up again.
Wooooow...... That was so cool... Sounds of my childhood... And this magical place...what a dream of reverb!! What a pleasure, thanks for the sharing !!! Big salut from France 🇫🇷 ViNZ.
Great video and excellent, special original performance. Sometimes we forget as musicians that simplicity is key to great music. This is what the people in the 70s did!
Excellent, Sir! I love this synth and it represents something that is not describable. I miss this feeling and musicality on most of the synth's today. This instrument wants to be played and not programmed. This is about music and not just sound. And your review has shown this in a perfect way. Thank you very much.
