prob gonna use these products for my video on the retro festival in march hope it goes good with the brandon li rig, rip wallet cause canadian from USD lol
how is it possible you can create such a cable, without testing it first on both iphone and Max? Like how did you get to where you are without doing that? Just interested to know as its massive.
@@initialfocus They get more dangerous when they're bigger. Alva Brunkard (9) had me swinging my iPhone 15 Pro Max 30 metres up off a balcony on a three metre selfie stick the other night all in the name of art...
Appreciate all your videos and enthusiasm and the effort you put in to show people what is available. $2000 after tax for 4tb is abit expensive for most of us. I gave a good alternative solution on my channel(my first video ever) over 3 months ago to avoid people being fleeced because it really bothered me. It is 2tb for $130 and it is more than fast enough(over 550MB/s sustained) for sure for 4k 60fps prores hq and very compact. Hope it helps someone save a few bucks.
Crazy that Kondor Blue at this price point didn’t test their product on the 15 Pro Max, unacceptable for me. I hope they will correct that cable length
Wow this seriously makes my day! I’ve been pretty overwhelmed trying to create a variety of content. I love what I do but it’s a lot of late nights and comments like this make it all worth it 🙌🏼
Cool product. I think I'd personally go for Kondor Blue's pro blade SSD handle though but it's great to have options like this if you already use such cards with other pro equipment.
That’s a terrible concept dude. That will no doubt get snagged instantly, corrupt files; the probably the drive, total mess also, keeping the setup firm and fixed. Only good way to
I’m excited to test this with the NEEWER iPhone cage and their new 37mm lens mount system + DOF MK3, I believe they managed to ovoid covering the MagSafe area.
I have an Hagibus nvme enclosure and I love it because it is magsafe and very clean looking. I may switch it out though for a regular SSD hard dive because some of my lenses attachments get in the way.
Another cool thing you can do with it is use it as an external drive for the Blackmagic 4K and 6K G2/Pro cameras, which is likely better than most SSD drives. It also benefits those who might upgrade to the 6K full frame, since it also uses the same cards. Sure, they’re not cheap, but they’re cheaper than Cfast.
all of these sounds cool but the reality is type c or any other connector gets loose very fast and these types of accessories and the charger itself gets loosend and then you can't really use them properly unless you have enough money to upgrade your phone every year
Without an ND filter system that can also fit this really doesn’t strike me as worth the trouble. On a bright day your 24fps footage is going to have some silly shutter speeds.
More than 2000 euros for the 4Tb version? How crazy price tag is that... also, the product does not looks properly finished. I gonna pass. Still looking for the best solution to rig my phone.
no problem, I recently did a little short on your cord, the color got me lol. Funny just actually ordered an HDMI from you seconds ago. Wish you guys made a type c to hdmi! No one seems to make a nice coiled. Thanks for the great products. Keep them coming!
Great info! How does it affect the iPhone's battery life? I know it would complicate the setup even more, but could you also patch in an external battery?
You really only need 400mb/s write speed. I personally use the Samsung USBC 256gb thumb drive on right angle adapter, works perfectly fine in 4k60 through the BM app. Costs £30. Job done.
Tried two different samples of that Samsung USBc drive - I could never get a recording longer than four minutes. That’s about where it would crash out. Didn’t matter if I was using the BlackMagic app or the native app.
Excellent coverage and discussions on this… nice work @Michael….with that said, while this IS a great choice for ext media options but the one thing nobody is talking about that is an issue for professionals on long day shoots is that if you are working in a setup like this, you have no way of maintaining your ongoing battery usage, or perhaps more of a concern, how to CHARGE the iPhone while also recording. If one keeps any setup similar to this, and proceeds to keep the phone on AND recording, then eventually you’re either gonna run out of battery and then have to wait to recharge - in the middle of your shoot - or, you will need to shoot to internal memory and fill the phone up with large files or be faced with media management issues…and all of this also before even mentioning plugging in additional items that require accessory power - it’s a trickle sure, but it will still contribute to power consumption in some way….Again the setup, in theory, is a great concept but still needs refinement to cover all bases.
Arggg - when the MagSafe didn't work on the Beastcage Rig in the normal way, that completely killed me since that is the setup I have too. I wonder if some kind of sticky tape velcro solution as you used in your earlier video for the Anker hub might also work here to attach the Kondor Blue CFexpress Type B drive? The only other workaround that might work for me that I see right now is to attach some kind of cold shoe to the Beastcage kind of just above the lens there and put the Rode Wireless Pro there and then the Kondor Blue CFexpress Type B drive goes on top of the right-hand handle like you have with a USB-C cable going down to the iPhone's USB C port
Great video! Thank you. The only problem I often find is cables fitting with cases. In my case..no pun intended 😊 it’s a FREEWELL case. Are these cables made for extra depth or just the housing/ case? Thanks again 👍
@@getro118 spent a lot of time figuring this out. It’s not that the T7 doesn’t have fast enough transfer speeds. It’s that the T7 requires more power than 4,5 watts it gets from the iphone
CF Express Type B cards get extremely hot 🔥in ALL my cameras and ALL my heatsink card readers especially for video. After a couple minutes use the card readers become hot and the cards are too hot to hold. Placing that very hot card case directly on the back of your phone where it dissipates heat can’t be good…especially when you mix it with the iPhones overheating warning. I doubt you would get more than a few minutes of continuous shooting even though hours are available. Ideally you would need an air gap between this device and the phone by mounting them to a cage. Extending the cord might help, but you might not be able to stand it if the reader was in your pocket or if you held it.
Dont get ripped off, get WD 2Tb small half sized and the new iTGZ card interface all metal and almost postage stamp size, works fine with Prores,, or use SHARGE device with WD too slightly smaller
Great Video! Looks attractive and I see everything is back ordered or unavailable today ...but I'm confused. CFExpress is way expensive (like you said), $1000-$1800. SD UHS-II is limited and expensive (1TB Sandisk Extreme Pro - $300) and relatively slow (280 MB/s). I'm looking at the Crucial X9 & X10 Pro, SSDs; they're 1/2 the weight (1.3 oz) small enough to mount MagSafe on a phone (smaller than a T7). the X9 Pro I bought gets 950 MB/s Writes, costs ~$150 for 2TB ($260 for 4TB) [I put it in a little stretchy MagSafe wallet] So how fast do you really need? I don't think an iPhone camera can overload it, even with ProRes. What am I missing?
SSDs work great most of the time and a great budget friendly option most will use. This is just a cool setup for those who already have CF Express type B cards or those die hard iPhone filmmakers who often shoot ProRes HQ 4K 60fps as many SSDs can’t keep up with consistent write speeds to not drop frames
Great video! I have been searching high and low for that nato L rail... do anyone have luck finding it? The closest one I found is the freefly one but doesn't seems as flexible as Michael's one.
I have the SD Card version (peordered at the the end of November) and, while it's cool, the write speeds were disappointing at best. 95 Mbs according to Blackmagic Speed Test.
I mean any drive plugged into the 15Pro can be accessed via files app. So if you have a photo 3rd party app that’ll save to an external then yes. But Apples first party camera app only supports external recording straight to the drive if shooting in ProRes.
By the way I love your videos and I know many people already mentioned this. Not trying to beat a dead horse. Love how creative you’re getting. It would be cool to see what is the biggest lens you could use to capture far away subjects, like surfers in a distant lineup, with the mk3 adapter without vignetting. I’d be sure to buy that gear.
If the late Steve Jobs had been apart of the production of the Angel Bird devices then He would have made sure that the little details DO matter and make sure that the reader is aligned probably.
This is informative but worthless because their website says sd cards are backordered. This shows me how incompetent the management team is if you’ve ran out of sd cards this fast.
They sell adapters that will let you. But either way why in the world would anyone spend money on this when an ssd is beyond its data transfer limits and way cheaper lol!!
@@antovega2 i mean you can use an adapter that goes between the Two or a case that has a bigger Hole where the USB C is . Iv cut my iPad case because i was using it as a Burger directors monitor And iv used an L shaped USB C with an iPad cage + 2 handles And a V mount battery on the back.
Guess you didn’t actually watch the video. 1: video isn’t sponsored and the links in the description aren’t even affiliate links. 2: I’ve been doing tons of videos on various setups from SD cards to SSDs. And inexpensive T7 or whatever SSDs worth amazing. But there are still moments where at ProRes HQ 4K 60 I’ve experienced dropped frames or lag in ability to record long clips. I know the majority of iPhone users would not go buy a memory card that costs the same price as the phone itself. Which is why I specifically said “this is a great setup if you own a Type B card for one of your other cameras”.
You are the problem why clients are saying “I can shoot it in my iPhone myself lol,I’m like yeah go ahead” then they come back to me, when the selfie stick is in the shot”!
Everyone has different reasons. It’s a camera people would have on them consistently and gives an amazing look to it. Camera of the year doesn’t necessarily mean best quality.
The camera of the year idea came because I’ve been completely surprised just how good Apple log ProRes is. Sometimes I think about camera of the year for the best quality camera (which obviously would not go to a phone) but I also think it takes the “best phone is the one you have on you” to a new level. And yeah I have a couple courses 🤷🏻♂️ I got a family to feed and bills to pay. I’ve been making free content on here full time for 3 years now. My courses are priced ridiculously low compared to many others out there. So do I try to sell courses? Duh. Am I trying to manipulate an audience or push people to buy it if they don’t want to? Absolutely not.
@@initialfocus 😂😂. Micheal I’ve bought your course. I am a fan. You made me realize I didn’t need a black magic cuz i found your channel only after I had bought one and decided it wasn’t for me. So yes, sell your courses. Take care of your family but camera of the year? Nah. No even close.
@@initialfocuscompletely agree, I’m using ProRes log on this to color match with my Blackmagic and to have a unit that fits in your pocket and you can bring out when you don’t need to lug around a massive and heavy camera, it’s made film making incredibly easy to achieve outstanding tonality in your pocket. And it’s only going to get better from here.
