It's #MoMonday!
In this segment, Mo Pinel discusses how to properly track your axis migration on symmetrical bowling balls. Then, he will discuss the 5 key measurements relating to the axis migration and how it can affect your ball motion.
Layouts Used on Intels:
30°x3-3/4"x20°
90°x3-3/4"x20°
90°x4"x85°

Mo was quite literally the forensic investigator of bowling balls. I really wish he was still around to share with us his extensive knowledge.

Until I came across Mo Pinel, I had never considered the physics of bowling. Mo must be the foremost expert on bowling ball physics. And I'm so impressed with his knowledge that there's no other choice but RADICAL. My next ball is the CONSPIRACY.

Such a great video! So sad I only started bowling this year and Mo is no longer with us. Such a wealth of knowledge and no nonsense dude. So glad we still have these videos!

Could not agree more about the ball surface statement! It is amazing how many people will argue this point until exhaustion thinking that it makes a huge difference on the shape of the overall ball motion. Thanks Mo!
@briguyinsi

Doc Do you think that maybe in peoples minds, that because the hook is brought up or back, to them that means the difference in shape? I agree w you btw, just trying to understand the opposing opinion.
@BigSkyBowler
@BigSkyBowler 5 лет назад
Brian I think the reason why they argue this, is because they do not truly understand what ball motion actually is.

Yo, Mo I'm getting the Radical Intel Pearl on Monday April 1st I'm Thinking about getting your new layout. P.S Thanks for Recommend me to Tom. I no longer bowl with my Index finger lol

Mo, how do you determine what shape you need (for maximum striking percentage) on a given pattern?
@MrNYCman530
@MrNYCman530 3 года назад
Are there other factors involved like coverstock, RG, differential? I'm considering the Storm IQ Tour Nano Pearl which is symmetrical, which has a low differential. Would this be compatible with house shots or modified sport patterns like Big Ben, Asian American, or Stone Street? My ball speed is in the low teens and I have an average rev rate, and I average between 185-190. I usually shoot anywhere from 13 to 17 boards.

Mr. Pinel, can you go over the idea of drilling of an offset thumb hole. Thank you.
@jamesfriday3716
@jamesfriday3716 4 года назад
I also would like to know what he thinks. But I can tell you my thumb is unable to come out cleanly from any drilling any pro shop has ever done. The money I have spent working with many different pro shops is in the thousands. Don't get me wrong they are doing what is rite for normal people and it was rite for me when I was young. But as I've aged now 52 my average slowly dropped from 190 to 205 when young. To 170 to 180 last year and then my bowling center got a new oil machine and my average dropped to 150 160 range. I was ready to quit the sport I've loved for 40 years. I watched a couple of videos of people drilling balls at home. Here is what I do . Drill fingers first then put fingers in slightly stretch your hand on to the ball until the ball fits snugly across your entire palm. Now take a pencil and trace both sides of your thumb. Next mark the base of the thumb where you want to grip it. I recommend to try the first drill trying to keep all pitches straight. For me the thumb is way offset. Now here is what it did for me. I've been labeled as the biggest sandbagger in all of my league's. Because my average has shot to 215 to 220 and since this took place 1/3 of the way through the season with averages in the 150 to 160 range I've made a ton of cash. Now I love the sport more than ever.

In theory, an offset thumb drilling should make the ball sit in your palm better(easier). Your release will be faster providing the proper pitches are drilled for your hand. I normally drill 0/0 and adjust from there unless I know their thumb can clear their current pitches. Span is critical. I actually stretched my span 3/8” more. This caused me to relax my grip pressure a lot. Most of us bowlers have been grabbing our bowling balls for decades. Find a driller willing to work with your style, lane conditions and most of all watch you bowl. If you can find a driller willing to work with you, work with them and always stay positive. Change comes with time, patience and practice. NEVER practice for score, practice what you need to correct or become more consistent on. Good luck 🍀

I'm curious what would happen if you drilled a thumb or finger hole on the cg.

Hey mo how much to teach me how to layout and drill bowling balls?
@BigNickSnr
@BigNickSnr 2 года назад
Hoping this makes sense and someone can answer: At 5:42 Mo talked about "putting the CG anywhere" the customer wants it. How exactly do you know that before laying it out? Understanding that the pin will be in the same place on the layout regardless of where you draw the pin to PAP line, how exactly do you know where the CG will end up beforehand? If I draw the grip center in relation to the CG and work backwards, how will I then know where the pin will be?
@tygardner5652
@tygardner5652 2 года назад
In the dual angle layout system, the front angle determines where the cg is. You can make that angle anything you want. He’s saying you could make the front angle 180 degrees and it will still react the same, given the pin to pap and Val angle are the same

Thank u now I know not very many guys who drill balls no what the hell they are doing. Buying a new ball would throwing money away! Supposed guys with great following who supposedly know what they are doing never ever look at any of my old balls! Can you steer me to anyone in New Jersey. I literally have given my last 3 balls away. I drove over a hundred miles for one , most expensive, could not keep from hooking out of the building.

If you pearl a solid ball it will change the shape
@gzlishim
@gzlishim 2 года назад
Not sure if you got an answer yet. If you polish and shine up a solid you can make it go longer later before it hooks, in theory. Same idea as getting a pearl version of a solid for transition or ball down

Can someone translate these acronyms for me? Pap - positive axis point I know that one, but what the crap is CG? Center of gravity? What is VAL? Maybe I missed it in the video...

cg - center of gravity. VAL - vertical axis line

Why does this really matter? Just drill it for legal use and just change hand position if lane conditions change. Keep it simple brotha.
