I know this is an old video, but there's a way easier way. Use the fruity peak controller on the kick and a parametric EQ 2 on the signal you want attenuated. right click the band you want to duck and link it to the internal controller and select your peak controller and dial in the amount of ducking you want. Personally, I prefer doing this with fabfilter pro-q3 so I have mid-side options, but it works just as well with the stock stuff.
@@NavieD Yes, it's the best, you do your regular sidechain on fl and then you go to the plugin setings click auto map for the inputs and outputs and that's it. You should try it ;)
I thought I was the only one who noticed this. I just finished a drill beat. Sidechaining the old way was killing my end slides. Thanks for this vid Navie.🙏🏿
Very well said, kudos. Obviously this can be done with any freq splitting vst like CrossOver for example, but it's lovely to have a stock option in FL now. Brilliant tutorial!
I used to use the parametric eq 2 to side chain, but the frequency splitter will probably be my go to. Most often now I just check the polarity of the kick and go on.
This brings up the possibility of some really interesting sound design. Putting separate effects on the different parts, or just on a single part of a sample. I bet could come up with some cool stuff that way. Will play with it tonight. The surgical precision sidechaining is off the hook .. thanks as always !!
Wow, check out that shnazzy tool, thats rly awesome & useful! U seem extra relaxed & in high spirits, sorta glowing with radiance. Congrats on wtvr it is:) Are u sure u dont use hair stuff, looking suave Navie👌 Thanks for this video!
I dont usually sidechain my 808 i just play with the attack and delay but recently i been using fruity peak controller to sidechain. Instead of sidechaining to the volume i put peak controller on the kick, and an eq on the 808 and use peak controller to control a low end band on the eq to dip every time the kick hits.
yo Navie D! If we compress our bass from the kick using the fruity limiter sidechain method, should we also remove the route to the master, or is this not needed when using the fruity limiter method? Great video as usual by the way!
@@NavieD I mean there haven't been many new tools added i think there is like 2 (the frequency splitter and the tuner plugin) but alot of stock plugins that i use have been updated with new features and improvements which i really like. I use the zgame visualizer for beat videos and i think you should do a video about
Thank you so much for the video. For sidechaining I would simply use Peak Controller + Parametric EQ to convert it into a dynamic EQ. Less trouble + Less insert channels :) But if I am going to add more fx to the split bands ( like reverb on the high, distortion on the lows etc etc ) and yes, Frequency Splitter is the one to use definitely
Extremely useful video! Thank you so much!!! By the way, this may seem strange, but I still use automation lines for sidechaining. The result is smooth. When I use Fruity Limiter - it is always unredictable and shaky.
Dude how you onl got 30k? Its you an in the mix taught me everything. Your drum beat video from last year helped me a ton. Try something on timing maybe? Bmp and what types of music. How it effects it. Thanks
IMO, this method takes to long, it is really clean way to do it, but simple LFO tool is just as effective, but i guess its a new habit of keeping your mixer channels clean and organized as well, nice tip thanks mate.
honestly still mad, mad at how every DAW out there doesnt have an internal super easy way of sidechain ducking, while this is a huge upgrade and a much needed one, its still confusing and clunky to set up, like its 2021, common!!! also thanks for showing this and explaining it in an easy way
@@NavieD The other day spend 4 hours making tropical pluck sound.... 🤣🔫 Check this amazing tool that I use, it is absolutely amazing for transitions & other general uses ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wlepc1VgSXU.html
why the best why ? multiband compresor or dynamic eq ? or love filter folowing an eq area and the envelop triger an eq band :) in this case the whay in fl ,ableton and reaper exist
What happens if , I do trackouts? Wouldn't i get for example... BEAT_BASS.Wav BEAT_BASS_LOW.Wav BEAT_BASS_MID.Wav BEAT_BASS_HIGH.Wav Will this affect & what will happen to the trackouts?
I feel like this is more of a mastering tool compared to just mixing the beat. I would just render it out then record it into Edison and then you can save your new 808 and it’s already processed but I would leave room to work with since every beat is different mix wise hence why you want the bands tight
dude i love your beats so much, why don't you upload them on Soundcloud or something? trust me if you make a beat making video then at the end you say that there's a link for the full beat in the description this will get you so much attention. i found a navie D topic on youtube but it only has some edm beats. i wish i can listen to ur trap or lofi beats.
Great video. Greatly explained. But this method is a bit too complicated. Using a dynamic EQ that compresses a certain range of frequencies is a lot easier. By that, you won't need 4 mixer channels only for your bass. Image-Line should create a dynamic EQ too!
Suppose that one is working from a older model of FL Studio. Such as FL Studio 11 does the same rule apply when using the multiband compressor? If not then what other application do you recommend?
The way I've always sidechained my kick and bass is to leave the kick as is, then go into the envelope settings of the 808s and nudge the attack a few milliseconds off. This delays the 808s a bit, thereby creating a pocket for the kick to sit in without being overpowered by the 808. I've been doing it this way since I started making beats, and it has been working for me. What do you think about this method?
It definitely works for that first, initial kick you may layer at the beginning of your 808. But if you have another kick that is playing part-way through the 808, then you're sorta pickled.
Will this actually work fast enough to completely get the bass out of the way of the kick without leaving a few miliseconds of the bass while the kick plays? LFO Tool does it fast.
I'm no more using FL but we could already sidechain on a frequency using peak controller and linking to an EQ band. It was faster and simpler should you ask me.
Navie how come as soon as I try to use either super vhs or same problem happens with Valhalla supermassive and their freq echo plugin too all 3 plugins mute the track as soon as I load it in the mixer nothing happens but the sound gets muted no matter how I adjust the knobs within the plugins ....
I’d rather just get a good mix and let the engineer do his job lol it’s a good trick don’t get it twisted but I’m never going to waist memory like that when I know I have a good mix without doing that. Fellow producers don’t stress yourself out about sidechaining your 808/kick and more on pairing the right combination instead. I just use the ds-10 drumshaper most of the time and I still get a good knock. I’m already parallel processing my kick and 808 through preamp/compressor plugins and distortion if needed and my 16gb ram laptop gets overworked doing to much which honestly teaches me less is better
