Elvis to this day is Bruce’s ultimate hero. He was only 25 at the time and with the bluster of youth, he just wanted to meet his hero as people have with Bruce since then. Bruce has used Elvis’s reclusiveness as a warning about not how to handle stardom. Elvis was the first rockstar so he had to make his own trail which wasn’t healthy obviously.

Springsteen’s love for Elvis is well known. He was devastated when Elvis died, and the song, «Johnny Bye Bye», is about Elvis. «Fire» would have been phenomenal for Elvis, well suited.

They where starting out and the song really picked up on Elvis's life at that point, they were delighted he sung there song .

Dolly Parton song I Will always Love You was not turn down by Parker It was turned down by Dolly Parton because Parker wanted Elvis to have all publishing rights to it. And it was a song that Dolly said she could not give up it was for her family. Dolly Parton didn't actually decline Elvis Presley's offer to record "I Will Always Love You." The story is that Elvis showed interest in recording the song, but his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, wanted a share of the publishing rights, which Dolly Parton didn't agree to. As a result, the collaboration didn't happen.Sep 24, 2023

@sammcbride2149

Maybe Bruce had issues with impulse control or something because it seems like a very strange thing to do, especially for a grown man. Maybe being on those 2 magazine covers went to his head. You would think that one famous person (Bruce) would understand that another famous person (Elvis) might not want people going commando to get onto their property. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if Elvis had been there.
@TS-gg9dk
@TS-gg9dk 3 месяца назад
Yes, Bruce was embarrassed about that part himself. I think in the beginning of that same interview (or another) he said something along the line of that he couldn’t believe he did that, because he wouldn’t want anyone to do it to him… 🫣😏

----------- Unlikely something would have developed in a meeting. The C-factor always emerges (Colonel). Aside from that, Bruce's music around this time wasn't what I think Elvis would have liked. Elvis' music was mostly adult contemporary with a country flavor, minus the occasional rocker. Bruce's music always seemed jazzy to me. I know he's also rock but not what I called rock at the time. But there's the other factor, Elvis did seem to experiment briefly in 1974 with a bit of funk (if you talk in your sleep, i gotta feeling, etc). The best thing musically for Elvis was to put himself under total control of someone like Dave Edmunds (who did the Everly's later stuff) or Jeff Lyn of ELO (who did Roy Orbison's later stuff). These Brits knew how to bring that American Rock & Roll sound back to us Yanks.

There's more to this story! Bruce's version is not what really happened. Starting with the date, Springsteen did a show in Memphis at Ellis Auditorium on April 29, 1976. Elvis wasn't in Vegas at this time, but he was in Nevada about to start a 10 day run in Lake Tahoe. Elvis's cousin Harold Loyd was the guard and he intercepted Bruce at the front door. The interaction may not have been as pleasant as Bruce described. Superfan Debbie Brown who lived across the street in the apartments. She and her friend John were hanging out in front of the gates. They heard a commotion from up the driveway and it was getting louder as Harold and Bruce were walking down the driveway. It went something like this..."Son, you can't be up here." "But I'm Bruce Springsteen!" " Well, I'm Harold Loyd" "Yeah, but I'm Bruce Springsteen!" "And I'm Harold Loyd and you need to get go!". The gate was opened, and John mentioned to Debbie..."yes, I heard of this Springsteen guy. He's popular around New York." As Bruce was passing them, Debbie said loud enough for Bruce to hear..."Well he may be somethin' in New York, but in Memphis he ain't shit!"
