😂 That's a long way to walk in hitchhike.

I looked up The Sunset Drive-In on Cinema Treasures and found that the theater was famous or infamous for running films the local censor had banned in Memphis. These were not "adult" or "X-rated" movies but shows including Blackboard Jungle, Rebel Without a Cause (supposedly encouraged juvenile delinquency) and any movie that included white and African-American performers in the same scene. Knowing how Elvis hated prejudice of any kind, it's not surprising he'd support this theater.

Thanks Trey and Spa Guy. Trey you did a great job on this story. I love seeing Elvis the person. Great maping you all got. I wonder how many miles it is between the drive-in and her house. He must not have been to mad if he went straight back to her house to wait for her. Young love. I hope someone did pick him up. They never knew until years later who they picked up if he did get a ride which back in those days it was nothing for a guy to hitch hike.

It’s only a few miles. Back then I believe they took the i55 bridge back to Memphis so I was wrong on the drive.

@@GlobetrottingWithTrey no problem, I have no doubt you'll straightened the error out. I'd imagine it would be a bit nervous wreck King to walk across any bridge. Back in those days it was nothing to walk a few miles to get somewhere before you had your own vehicle. Back in the 70's I would walk about 2 miles to visit a friend. Thanks again for the story. 🙏

Thanks Sandra. I’m glad you like how I film these shows. Yes I have been mistreated by TU Enterprises and continue to be mistreated by one partner of that business. I’m tied up with them in court now for my hard earned money owed to me by that business for my work.
