The Nightsisters of Dathomir Explained 

Night Sisters are amazing. I remember them in SWG and they owned me a thousand times. The stories of the Night Sisters are actually cool as hell.

I just rewatched the Dathomir massacre and it still breaks my heart. Great video as usual guys.

I've always found the Nightsisters to be strange. They harness the dark side. But yet they don't necessarily seem to be corrupted by it. Seems to run contrary to what George says about the dark side.

I’m glad this ended up being true. How else could you explain Ahsoka not absolutely wiping the floor with her during their dual in Mando?

One of my favorite legends characters is the Jedi/Queen of the Hapes Consortium, Tenal Ka Djo, who was the daughter of Prince Isolder and the Witch, Tenenial Djo. Tenal Ka was raised on Dathomir and rode a Rancor as a child. She took Jacen Solo as her consort during the Dark Nest Crisis and used the force to prolong her pregnancy from that union, where she eventually gave birth to a daughter.

It’s interesting that Morgan looks to be human and not Dathomirian.

The night sisters are some of my favs

Although, the new canon has displaced the original Legends idea that there were also plenty of Light side witches on Dathomir, while the Nightsisters were the evil cast outs of their society. Plus, they were all humans, as well. This was initially upsetting when Dathomir was first depicted in "The Clone Wars" back *before* the canon reset.

It's always fascinating to me how many people and organisations get forgotten as only little footnotes in the galaxy history such as the Nightsisters. I think Elsbeth might be the one exeption, as she has relevance in the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn and Merrin...well let's just see about that.

They are really interesting hopefully we can see more stories of the mother and the grandmother.

Morgan is my favorite character in this series!

I could see a grounded character focused mature military centric series in the well written style of Andor based around a capital ship and its fighter wing a la BSG being actually really good. Ship heads would love it and it could have great drama if we learn to love the new characters

Shin seemed disturbed to discover that Morgan was a "witch" and their interactions are a lot less agreeable than Baylan and Morgan. Why does Shin distrust "witches" and "witchcraft"? Is there a backstory here? Or is it just that Shin doesn't approve of other Force traditions, as Baylan seems to have mostly trained her as a Jedi, despite acknowledging that they are not actual Jedi (doubtless due to the Dark Side).

I just like how this little elite team to travel to a distant galaxy and bring back Thrawn is made of a bunch of survivors. Morgan is one of the last Witches. Balen is one of the last Jedi (he works as a mercenary but he respects the order a lot. He keeps the traditional Jedi dress, he built himself a new lightsaber, he took an apprentice, and he is not happy about killing Ahsoka-- Balen is a fallen Jedi but he is still a Jedi). And the inquisitor might be the last of his order-- I am surprised to see that any of the Inquisitorius outlived Vader and the Emperor, that's genuinely surprising. Of course Thrawn is the greatest survivor of them all, and I suppose so is Ezra. Then Ahsoka is one of the only Jedi to survive Order 66 and Sabine is one of the only Mandalorians to survive the Purge-- I don't know if Zeb is in his series but he is also a survivor. Almost every character in this show is one of the last survivors of their group. I really hope that Balen and Shin return to the light side and help Luke rebuild the order on that bamboo planet-- Balen really seems to miss the Jedi order, and I think that he needs the structure of the Jedi back in his life. Him and Shin seem a little lost and purposeless. Shin looks to Balen for guidance, but what does Balen look to? He works as a mercenary but I think he would rather be a Jedi once again. I think that a nice end for these Disney+ shows would be Balen, Shin, Cal (if he's alive), Ezra, Ahsoka, Hu-Yang, and Luke (plus whoever else is a survivor... Reva, maybe?) getting together in a Jedi temple (possible the one on Lothal) to re-form the Jedi Council for the first time since the Clone Wars, acting as advisors and peacekeepers for the new republic. Even if the Jedi council is broken again after about 20 years of peace and Luke does go into self-imposed exile from the shame of his failures, it would be nice to have a short period of galactic peace.

I think I might re-read "The Courtship of Princess Leia" after all this Nightsister/ Witches of Dathomir talk ^_^

Shout-out Star Wars Galaxies for being the first place to introduce both Dathomir and Nightsisters! Such a fun and scary planet to roam around on in. It’s exactly as it’s portrayed in canon!

the biggest **misunderstanding** is people assume the Nightsisters or Witches of Dathomir being "evil" or malefic when usually they are not exactly evil. "The Dark" or "The Bogan" is NOT evil or malefic, "the Darkside" is a twisting or corruption/mis-use of "the Dark" but fueled with a person's anger, hatred and fear. If Force Wielder like a Nightsister *is not using fear, anger, hate* to fuel their use of the energy of the Force then it's not "dark side" ; just because their "magic" or "sorcerery" is "dark" or they're access a murky blend of Bogan and Ashla.... it doesn't automatically make them "dark side". Merrin in the game Jedi: Fallen order is a great example of a Nightsister that isn't malefic and not fueled by extreme hatred or a desire for power &control, and doesn't try to manipulate other people and doesn't kill wantonly as Sith would do. The power of one's will and choices and intent of how the Dark(Bogan) aspect of the Force is used matters, and it isn't always for cruelty or killing innocent people.

Nightsister Magic might be more powerful than the Force since it can raise the dead. Maybe Morgan will do the same thing in this show to stop Ahsoka.

Others such as the Night Sisters are definitely needed to keep Star Wars moving forward. And I really think Filoni should retcon Assaj Ventriss' end in the novel Dark Disciple and bring her back. Let's face it... no matter what Lucasfilm says, the books and comics and other assorted stories are always going to exist as B-canon to the fully produced live action/animated A-canon. We need a character like Ventriss back as a protagonist or even an antagonist... or something in between. She's a good anti-hero.

I personally think they are borrowing too heavily from Wiccan and other Neo-pagan religions (and their associated folklores and cultures) without adapting it significantly. It doesn’t feel fantastical enough for me.

I do love Dave Filoni's attitude towards his stroy writing. It's basically the following: Disney:"Only what is made going forward will be canon. The Clone Wars and the movies are the only things that will not be considered part of the main story." Dave:"So you wont mind if I take the hard work of others that Lucasfilm, the company that got Star Wars off the ground, approved of, and bring bits and pieces back into canon then." And since Morgan is confirmed to be a Nightsister, I do hope we can get Allya's Exile and Allya's Redemption, a pair of kyber crystals found on Dathomir and named after the origin of the Nightsisters in legends, to come back. Ideally as Morgan's lightsabers to combat Ahsoka

I hate how they made Morgan a Nightsister. It makes zero sense. She looked completely human with Asian features, absolutely nothing like the others. The Clone Wars showed that they were born with Dathomirian features(grey skin, silver hair) in Asajj's flashbacks, it wasn't from some stupid ritual. I hate inconsistencies in lore.
