I've been wanting to play a space sim like this for awhile. Just got it installed and about to setup my new HOTAS. All the controls are a bit overwhelming. But the voice command is genius!!! Thank you so much for sharing and helping noobies like me. Merry Christmas! (Liked & Subscribed)

There was a lot of good info in this video. I specifically like the hint for complaining pilots to get their act together and go practice. I felt that statement was meant for me even though you were actually directing it to me (I was one of those complainers). I decided to go practice and discovered my flying nitch...I found using the mouse for targeting and my HotasX throttle control for mobility, had the perfect match. I don't have to worrying about finding or feeling for keys on the keyboard and still have the precision in targeting. Works like a dream. By the way, the HotasX has all 5 buttons plus a strafing bar right under you hand...no need to break contact. I didn't even mention Voice Attack. Once again, Kudos to TheNOOBIFIER1337

+Terry Thanks, being a skill based game, there is no replacing trigger time. I feel that this game will have something for everyone in the future, but up until 2 months ago it was only a Space Combat Simulator. Its a very specific game type. I'm glad you are getting there and hopefully are having fun.

+TheNOOBIFIER1337 Well, then it is the best no bullshit one for SC :) one question : how about using joystick "twist" for yaw, instead of pedals? Not accurate enough ? I'm a joystick noob, yes. thanks
@NOOBIFIER1337
@NOOBIFIER1337 8 лет назад
+pocker91 They are plenty accurate to do that job. In reality, big legs may be at a precision disadvantage compared to the fine motor of a wrist. It all comes down to getting used to your gear.

One of the big recent changes I made to my HOTAS setup is binding the fire buttons to the throttle instead of to the joystick. I use a CH system, and there are buttons for three fingers on the back side of it, two of them are used for fire group 1 and and fire group 2. The third one is currently boost/afterburner, although I may change that if I decide that three fire groups are a good idea. Basically, the reason for binding this way (and it DOES take some getting used to) is that even minor motions in the joystick hand can throw off one's aim. By separating concerns I don't have to worry quite so much about that.
@NOOBIFIER1337
@NOOBIFIER1337 8 лет назад
+J.D. Luke I dont think I could ever get used to a fire switch not located on my index finger. I also run a mono load so I only use one group except for in the delta where the rocket pods are GP#2. This is all good stuff though, its going to be read by others and give them ideas.

Obscure bind? I think i have been using that as my primary targeting method since wing commander. Aside from fire, that is my first rebind every shooter. I know, others may not be aware of it. I never needed 'next target' before, but with this game's sophistication i may just unload targeting commands to voice attack. Btw thankyou for these videos. Been onboard SC since 2011 but just ran across your stuff recently. Very professional.
@NOOBIFIER1337
@NOOBIFIER1337 8 лет назад
I mentioned it was obscure because it was not part of any default bind load. The user would actually need to go look for it, and even then the naming convention made it difficult. People would just pass over it. If it was called aim mark target select. Or something else, it would be more commonly used. I am happy you just found my page. See you in the verse
@Hasgaha

I'm with you on the pitch and roll. There seem to be way more people going pitch and yaw for this game and I understand why. But I grew up playing combat flight sims in the early 90's and I can't seem to break that feeling. But I'm a dual stick user in SC and I have yaw bound to the x-axis on my second stick (Y being forward/backward strafe, twist being lateral strafe). Seems backwards to what most suggest but it feels right to me. I really need to make a diagram or video of my setup... every so often someone wants it explained. Also, I see a tablet to the left of your monitor. Are you using Roccat Power Grid or something similar in SC right now?
@NOOBIFIER1337
@NOOBIFIER1337 8 лет назад
I tried the other way again for about two hours. It was fine and I was getting kills but it wasn't good for me, not bad, but I didn't enjoy flying. The tablet does have power grid but not the SC shield program. I had a look but Voice Attack is so fast compared to looking taking hands off control pushing screen hands on controls. It is also where messages come in like this message which I thank you for, the dual stick sounds crazy to me, I won't lie.

Voice Attack is something I will definitely start messing with already with other games, nice tip! Haven't been using a flight stick for decades, so I'm curious what the official peripherals will look like, but he low profile base plate of the Warthog looks really practical when it comes to desk placement. Good to hear that it's already an excellent option.

Thank you for your video Noobifier. 2:26 in and you've already saved me. You see, I've been incredibly hyped for Star citizen, and for the most part they've fulfilled it to the letter with each passing month and in the foreseeable future. My real issue however is the way that the space combat turned out for me. I have a X52 Pro HOTAS and Track IR 5, but i've never really become fully accustomed to their benefits despite me thinking it was going to be the case. I largely blame the fact that Star Citizen makes it incredibly hard to understand the keybinding process, or should I say, the games' functions. I get no support in keybinding my HOTAS unlike in Elite:Dangerous. In ED I simply pick the pre-made keybind for X52 and VOILA, it turns out to be completely legit and well thought out. Meanwhile I have to try to find my way neck-deep in the shit-storm of functions this game has AND try to learn where they fit best on my joystick? Please. I kind of went off topic for what I initially wanted to say, but that is actually the reason why my hype died for the game relatively early. I suck so hard at this game and the skill-gap between mouse and joystick users is ridiculously unhelpful to my endeavors. What you really saved me from is the second issue. I HATE how non-atmospheric controls are default in this game. I don't want to switch, and it only makes me even SALTIER knowing that in-atmosphere flight will be treated the exact same way as space flight (this is merely an assumption since that's how that one race map flies). It's so infuriating for me and it does not help that I have to get used to that garbage yaw-mode when I can't even get my head around keybinding the bloody game itself onto my HOTAS. UGH. I'm so glad someone who's well establish has managed to find peace in the game with the regular setup. Instant subscribe in hopes of learning more from you.
@NOOBIFIER1337
@NOOBIFIER1337 8 лет назад
+VulcanXIV I thank you for letting me know that the video was helpful. The game as you said has a huge skill gap that can be closed with practice. There may be some other topics that I have covered that you might find useful. The popular uploads section. What I would like is that you pass on to other citizens about what I am trying to do here. I want to grow and I cant do that without subscribers like you.

TheNOOBIFIER1337 I've been watching your videos right now, they're great crash courses for me when i'm so backed up. I know next to nothing about the game despite my hype for it and I have yet to even touch the sabre despite my promises to go all-in to the game upon its release. I still need to know a ton more, and you're going in the right direction for your theme with time being the only issue for your growth. i'll pass your channel along whenever possible for the sake of the both of us D:

@VulcanXIV 8 лет назад
TheNOOBIFIER1337 Oh they're fine as they are. I was trying to say that time is all you need in order for you to improve. Although that's still pretty vague... Basically, all your videos are helpful. In time the more videos you post, the bigger your channel will get. I'm trying to find more insanely informative videos like your Weapon size explanation videos. They're very enlightening for scrubs who know next to nothing, and you could honestly become popular if you did the same theme.... for every.single.thing. in the game ._. teach me senpai lol

+VulcanXIV my primary desire is technical videos. There is a finite number of topics that can be discussed before I start reaching. I will keep on top of advantages that can be exploited and post them up as videos. That is more important than ship reviews IMO.

@NOOBIFIER1337
@NOOBIFIER1337 8 лет назад
It all boils down to the cost. The are planning a HOTAS specific to the game. I would like to think it would be better than something made to work in a plane. I have adapted it well. The warthog has no twist so it needs pedals. Hmm we will see once they give actual details.

Good morning and thank you for making this vid. I might have missed this in your vid so i''ll ask anyway. What software are you using to create your joy stick key binding (it within the game or is it TARGET)? I'm currently use a Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS with all of my fight sim (i.e. FSX and P3D) and over the years I've found it rather difficult to create key binding using the Cougar software. I've attempting trying program with the TARGET software but it was even worse Cougar software.

@NOOBIFIER1337
@NOOBIFIER1337 8 лет назад
As I said at the start of the video, this should be approached as a what can I take from the video rather than a rigid guideline. Take a look at the types of things and how I grouped them. I wanted just to showcase my setup to start a discussion and offer ideas, I never meant to suggest that it is the best binding. See you in the verse.
@JayneCobb88
@JayneCobb88 8 лет назад
TheNOOBIFIER1337 I took another look but all of your hat switches are used and there doesn't appear to be a separation of gimbal aiming and flight maneuvering. My asking is not to criticize but rather to explore possibilities because I want to switch to HOTAS (for immersion) but want to keep moving and aiming independent of one another and since HOTAS systems are expensive I'd rather fully research it before dumping money
@NOOBIFIER1337
@NOOBIFIER1337 8 лет назад
JayneCobb88 TRACK IR for aiming. Its in the video. Plus lately I have never used anything but a Fixed Mounted weapon since the Weapon Mount Update. For EG, My M50 has 2x S2 Fixed, My Gladius has 3X S2 Fixed Repeaters, The Mustang D has no option to upsize the nose, but I CTRL+G as soon as I spawn in AC. Hope that explains why there is no option, Its never used.

It is very good for that "Situational Awareness" but if you look at that older video footage you will see that the guns are actually tracking my head. I will probably never use them for aiming guns in the future unless I was in a Connie or Carrack that was a slower moving ship. I hit so many asteroids without Track IR. It is really nice to just do a shoulder check before initiating a turn. You stop thinking about it and just use it.

For the pedals, do you have Yaw set to pushing them in, or sliding them?
@NOOBIFIER1337
@NOOBIFIER1337 7 лет назад
+Toberkulosis I don't understand, the pedals have one axis
@toberkulosis
@toberkulosis 7 лет назад
I just recently got a CH set with pedals and haven't gotten to use them yet so maybe I am not understanding something, but they can slide forward and backwards on a rail, and the can also pivot like a pedal; are those not different inputs?
@NOOBIFIER1337
@NOOBIFIER1337 7 лет назад
+Toberkulosis I don't know very much about them. I had a different set and then got rid of them.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fr7cMb9-iYs.html

Yeah I saw that video, even though you don't use a hotas anymore this video was honestly way more informative than anything else I could find lol. Did the Seitek pedals not pivot?
@NOOBIFIER1337
@NOOBIFIER1337 7 лет назад
+Toberkulosis they only had centre pivot. Not slide

+TheNOOBIFIER1337 Do you have a current profile that you use with 2.0? It's not too difficult for me to go through and change binds (like G to J for pin target) but I'm just wondering if you've edited it since 2.0 dropped.

Seems like I will need to come back to this video, when I am finally able to afford a HOTAS. Meanwhile I use Power Grid to improve my means of control somewhat. Check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-70y0O4qvqTY.html

+CptHer Yeah, its ok but compared to voice attack that is really REALLY easy to mess up, plus you need to stop looking at the battle. It is a good idea to look at it though, just that I feel it is a gadget instead of something that we should actually use.
@CptHer
@CptHer 8 лет назад
Yes. Its a nice gimmick. But I am a bit unsure about how Voice Attack will go, if you're using TS or something like that at the same time. Could become quite annoying for everyone who has to listen to you.

Push to talk seems like a dangerous thing, while you're in combat. But maybe thats just me. Whatever. I am sure the community will find some awesome ways and combinations to control our ships.

Push to talk is 100% required. People cough, kids are playing, music is playing, doorbells, farting, burping, heavy breathing.. All That Shit needs to stay the F___ out of my ears so I can hear footsetps and the enemy. It is bound to the J Stick and Mouse.

+TheNOOBIFIER1337 It took me a solid 3-4 hours of gameplay to get used to it. Now it's second nature. If you dig up my old video on joystick setup you'll see me horrible flying after switching it up. Launch the Murray Cup and fly until it makes sense. That's 80% of the battle.

The flight mechanics are not really solid right now IMO.

+addictedtopiano It did sound dickish, it wasn't meant to be like that. I genuinely try to personally answer everyone. It was easy when I wasn't at work, but now that the holidays are over and I am at work, it is not possible. I am in the military and throughout the day I don't have access to my Cell or a PC. Hopefully with context, what I said makes more sense.

@CptFugu
@CptFugu 8 лет назад
+Manolis Krestas (BadIronTree) I have an X55 too. It is awesome. As opposed to the Noobifier, I have all throttle and thruster controls on my left hand. Top side hat for thrusters, bottom one for targeting. On the Right hand some aux targeting, weapon and shields management on the hats, Boost (pinkie), flight assist on the pull back trigger. That way my feet and both hands are handling just a single task each and cooperate to pull the maneuvers.
