I loved the notebook.I worked in nursing for 21 years.Yes people did do things like that in that time.Also I've seen couples pass away at the same time or hours apart. Alzheimer's/dementia I think is the most terrible disease.

SINGLE AS A PRINGLE

The romantic movie tropes are the reason why I never watch them anymore: they normalize and romanticize manipulation, gaslighting and other forms of emotional abuse. I watch brain f*ck and horror movies now! Most of them are far more realistic and fair than romantic movies are. :-D

The Notebook is cinematic chloroform. Staying awake during that godawful movie was a supreme act of will. By the end, I was exhausted. u_u

Man I feel like some of y’all are really missing some romance in your life... takes creativity and openness to see the beauty in the simple things. It’s not for everyone though. I feel like an old person though talking about romance. I remember when I first experienced this level of romance. I had just graduated from college, I had met this guy who still is my hippie soul spirit many years later. We had gone out to dinner and drinks that evening, I’m all dressed up but it smelled of rain in the air. We took a walk like we tended to do in the evenings, even in heels ladies and gents, if your feet hurt, your buying the wrong shoes, well it started to rain and we took off our shoes and ran back to his place. We put the shoes inside and ran back out to enjoy the rain and spin around and dance. We got tired and went back inside for tea and music and we indulged in the simplicity of our company. What I learned from these experiences with this guy was to not take myself so seriously, never lose my enthusiasm, to see the silver lining always, and that romance can be had everyday. Not all day everyday but at least for a part of the day, it can all be romantic. We didn’t end up together but I’ve opened up other men to romance too. I’ll write them simple things, I do picnics, outings to feed the ducks, still go watch movies at the drive in lol ya know simple things that make you feel like life is nice and worth living.

Didn’t Goslings character threaten to kill himself if what’s her face didn’t go out with him? And he’s supposed to be a model boyfriend.....what?

I dont know why women feel the need to crap on The Notebook in these comments to prove they're cool or whatever. Its ok to like that film. It was romantic and sweet. I enjoyed it. But do I expect my partner or our relqtionship to live up to that unrealistic standard? No, of course not. It's a romantic ideal. It's nice to indulge in that for a few short hours but it's not real life.

My main problem with that movie is that the guys is actually super creepy.... I watched the Notebook once... being a girl... I didn't expect to end it hating Nicholas Sparks for putting me off romantic movies AND Rachel McAdams forever, at the age of 18. Like, seriously. I lost all my appetite for anything sweet for the rest of the year. Eeeessh. I'll take Captain America the First Avenger, thanks. That's more realistic than the teen fantasy crapfest of the Notebook.

t o be fair, while im not a fan of the notebook men are being too whiny over this. im too young to care for this topic and i dont think any couple younger than 27 has a notebook like/hate relationship but its just a movie. just like sci-fi s its not realşy realistic like i was forced to watch every the twighlight zone episode as a kid(the sgow grrw on me and its actually amazing but come on its from the 50's its in blacm and white and at the time i didnt even know much english yet i watched every episode multiple times with english subtitles) ok that ones actually good but id still take the notebook over all those adam sandler movies you're forced to watch with family on saturdays
