@@shizuokaBLUES yessssss, that’s so awesome! I made a little rule for myself and that was to NOT let the ☀️ set on my day before I get my 10k steps logged on my FitBit. I guess one day something just clicked in my head while watching an episode of The Doctors and they had a guest on who said 🗣 “The sidewalk is my treadmill.” Those simple words changed my life!!! The guest was this man named Papa Joe Aviance and he’d lost 100lbs with no gym membership and a limited budget. He said he’d put on his headphones with great music, he walked everywhere, sometimes 5 miles a day, and purchased groceries at his local .99 cents. Just shows we really can do anything. I’ve been walking since then and plan to walk forever. 💕

Ppl without depression have issues to motivate themselves to exercise so someone who is severely struggling with even getting out of bed will not be able to go out to run , and I'm talking from my own experience when i was suffering from depression.. however thank you for the video...

I've battled severe depression for a long time. For those who are saying going out for a walk is too much just force yourself to go outside for a while. Sit outside, take a blanket or whatever you want to get comfortable. Sit out there and get fresh air and sun. Just let yourself enjoy existing outside. Find a good spot and just stay outside enjoying sitting or lying outside as long as you can. Remember when you were a kid and just lived half of your life outside playing. Let some of those playful and carefree memories and feelings come back. After getting used to sitting outside every day you'll start to yearn to do more like taking a little walk. You'll realize really quickly that it feels good, a lot better than sitting or lying in your bed. You'll start to crave it just like movement after being cramped up in a bad position for too long. Mentally and physically you'll just start waking up and wanting to go outside more and doing more. Throw back your curtains and air out your room and force yourself to sit there and enjoy the sun and fresh air a while. It's like pulling off a bandaid, do it quick and fast don't let yourself talk your way out of it. Living in a dark, dirty and stuffy room is bad for your mental health. I was so bad I was suicidal for years. Now I get up at the crack of dawn, throw open my curtains and air out my house and force myself outside first thing in morning. I take out trash, do a few little chores, whatever I can find to be busy a while outside. Some mornings this turns into a little walk. It all starts somewhere and when you're very depressed the start sometimes needs to be forced. It won't be easy, force yourself at first. It's like you're drowning and you need to reach for the life preserver. It's not a question of whether you should. You have to. Force yourself to do things that will make you feel better or you'll never improve. You deserve to be happy. You deserve to feel better. You deserve to find happiness and fulfillment in your life. In bed is not where you'll find it. I would like to add that meditation and prayer has also helped me tremendously. I have to still force myself sometimes and always in the beginning it was forced, but afterwards I feel much more grounded, clear and happy. It's not easy but when someone sick needs a specific medication to get better or die they are forced to take the medicine. This is similar. You must see it as that. Your medicine to get better. I know you're not enjoying being depressed. It sucks. Take your medicine.

the one criticism i have of this video is that Dr Berg's exercise standards are wayyyy too high for people like me. i wish that he would have the approach toward exercise that while it is absolutely essential for our physical and mental health, that it is also a very individual thing, with each person competing not against anybody else, but rather something done according to one's limited abilities. so for example in my case, i have so many health problems, that for me walking fairly slowly in the park for just a half hour, stopping to rest my bad back several times throughout, does absolute wonders for me. it is good for my body, but even more importantly, it dramatically improves my mood. i bet that walk for me takes more effort than Dr Berg running the marathon. now, maybe one day i can reach Dr Berg's high level of exercise goals, but for me that day may never come, and meanwhile, i do what i can in this regard

I'm not really sure if doing all of this can heal your depression. I have my fair share of experience in being depressed and this is what I noticed: - there is a connection between having a healthy lifestyle and depression, I noticed that when I was exercising and eating healthy my depression got much better and it was easier to do daily tasks - when I was lying around, anxious and depressed, no exercise, not minding what I ate it was very bad. What helped the most was (and this is still quite a new discovery for me): not even eating healthy per se, but cutting out SUGAR and INTERMITTENT FASTING, cos that way I no longer felt sluggish and tired all the time and actually feeling a little bit better is such a huge achievement for someone who's been waiting for that moment. So, that made me actually want to do things (little things even). Exercising on its own isn't very helpful imo, I always did that and didn't get better, so, for me, the issue was mostly the sugar. But it's not all about YOU but also about your environment. You can do all things well but if you have people around who bring you down, that's a very difficult issue to solve. I think it's also about practice, you have to practice having different thoughts, they won't appear on their own. So, what I used to do was immediately dismiss a negative thought, or when I felt "bad" mood creeping in on me I changed what I was doing to something more dynamic (exercise). I never took any medicine or anything for depression, just always tried to fix stuff on my own, and in the process, I learnt quite a lot about myself and now I know what my mind and body need when worse times come. HOWEVER, even in my better days, it never really got away, I was just much better at handling my thoughts and didn't really let them bring me down. That's why my theory is that once you're depressed, you triggered something in your brain that will always be there, you can minimize it, control it, but never completely get rid of it. Depressed people have such a hard time being motivated though, that even if they truly know what's good and bad for them, what they should do etc. , actually doing it is the hard part, that's why starting small is the best for getting out of that terrible self-destructing routine and if there is a short moment of positivity, it's important to use that opportunity.

I developed a host of autoimmune illnesses a little over 10 years ago, along with depression, anxiety, and ptsd/c-ptsd following multiple traumas. I eventually ended up having to leave a good job where I was working 12 highly physical hours a night. I started raising chickens and turkeys. My flock grew fairly large. Every morning it takes about 2 hours to care for them, and about 1 hour in the evening, with occasional welfare checks during the day. I honestly believe that the physical activity and the connection I have with these birds has saved my life, in regards to both physical and mental health, even though my husband greatly resents the time and commitment I devote to them. Now, I'm doing many other things (weaning from many medications, using the tools on this channel, etc) to restore my health and seeing great results. Thank you for all the great info, Dr. Berg.

Kale, cucumber, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, avocado and other low carb foods. Dead easy to follow and I enjoy the preparation. Feel a lot more fresh after 5 days. In December of 2020 I started walking to help me with my anxiety and depression. It wasn’t about losing weight at all. We were still in lockdown and I live in a rough neighborhood so I just started walking a mile a day inside my house with RU-vid videos. Now I average five miles a day walking and jogging, with most of it being done outside in the sun and it feels great. I still battle depression and anxiety but it’s nowhere near as bad as it used to be. I also lost twenty pounds and started a weight loss/ weight lifting journey that I had never anticipated at 40 years old. I think I’m going to add some sprinting and see how it goes! Little things go a long way and help to move you forward, sometimes the people close to you are the problem or causing problems and you don't realise. Buy a nice smelling fruity shower gel, a different one for each day...just little changes like this can make a difference. Do Keto too, of course! Good luck for a happier life Hannah - also research the difference between pleasure and happiness.

Peri-menopause was the most difficult 8 years of my life. Doctors prescribed anti-depressants. They never helped with anxiety at all. I didn’t cry all the time but I didn’t laugh either. I decided to slowly get off of them and started exercising. AMAZING results! I started doing a running app...and was surprised at what my body could do! It was so motivating to set goals and for the last 13 years I have been in at least 6 5K runs. I do a variety of aerobics when I am not running. I change it up and I try to work in walking through the day. I still have anxiety from time to time but exercise is absolutely the best remedy. Cutting out sugar helps a great deal. Last Christmas I bought a rebounder and I have been jumping on that one every day since. I do it several times a day too and sometimes with music that stimulates me and sometimes just to meditate and sometimes when I am listening to an e-book or even when I am talking on the phone for a long time with my friend but then I just swing up and down slowly so my breath is completely normal. I feel easily restless so I take long walks to be able to stay outside for several hours. Also I sometimes bring a little picnic with me with coffee in a thermos and a good book. But the rebounder is such a good compliment. And anywhere I read about it they say it’s makes the whole body’s muscles and the lymph system work optimal. Can recommend!! Makes you even sing with the music even though life is challenging now! Ashwaganda and fasting takes the rest of the depressed emotions away. I’ve have been fasting every year for a week or little bit longer.
