The fact Joe basically wanted to save reverse flash more than anyone when he was basically willing to kill a guy that even looked like thawne in season 2 is so dumb.
@@thomasraines1396 like bro how is he going to say “if you let thawne die you won’t have to worry about him tearing this family apart” or something like that when he literally murdered Barry’s mom and killed you and has killed your sons future daughter (I know he didn’t kill her but it was all apart of his plan to get free so technically it was his fault/doing by making them destroy the dagger. My point being is this just doesn’t make sense coming from his character after all the crap thawne did to him

When Iris said "Your articles speak to people because you're one of them," I felt that. It's a nod to the well known principle that you only have to be human to be considered a writer. One of the Best lines of dialogue ever written for this show, only second to when Savitar said "It's Savin time" in Season 3
Nah I prefer that time when Iris stole Barry's power and went like "It's Irisin' time" and lectured a tsunami out of the city because she is Iris and can't be wrong or useless
Problem is the show's version of Thawne is overused and after Season 1 Letscher should have played him permanently. They know he's not Harrison Wells and that he killed the real one so the disguise is pointless and Tom Cavanagh shouldn't be playing him anymore.
@@Xehanort10 wrapping the reason why they continue to have Tom playing the reverse flash because he's so good at playing him and you can feel like he's a villain just like how William Dafoe is as the Green goblin no one cannot play him good like him
@@Xehanort10 yeah I get it they are overusing the reverse flash too much on the flash I get he is barry arch nemesis but in arrow you don't even see them overuse Deathstroke a lot well they overuse Marlin a lot on arrow because John barrowman is so good at playing the character well I would say the only time they did not overuse the reverse flash was season 4 of The Flash and season 6 I believe we're the only two seasons they don't use him that much
Fun fact: In the Brazilian dub of episode 1, Barry's voice actor actually said "Look at this s#it dialogue" during one of Flash's scenes with Despero. No one bothered to fix it, and the episode aired with that blooper in. Edit: Since people asked, I put a link to clip in the replies.
@@thomasraines1396 worse he’s a loving and supportive boyfriend who even calls Kaitlyn out for judging him and frosts relationship and the show puts him in the RIGHT. Like yeah come on Kaitlyn don’t judge your sister for dating a serial killer who was obsessed with your sister and then tried to frame her
Remember when Barry and Iris’ love used to be… well, love. It was just their passion and determination to be with each other that drove them to push past their limits and overcome their adversaries. Now it’s just this omnipotent power that Barry and Iris (more so Iris) can use to overcome all the villians. And it always goes like this: Something happens to Iris, She’s separated from Barry for some reason, Barry goes insane trying to get her back, Someone tells Barry to chill and that Iris will be ok, She’s not seen for episodes and everyone forgets about her, The show finally remembers her, Iris spouts some crap about Barry being her lightning and she’s the lightning rod, She shoots lightning out of herself (no not in the fun way) BAM she’s back, Barry gets a power boost, The enemy is defeated, Rinse, and repeat.
She was annoying since S1. Plus, they weren't even a thing back then. S2 Iris is just ridiculous. Pure forced chemistry. She had chemistry with that Eddie guy but he's dead now oddly enough.
"every time Thawne has died in the past they just invent a new way to bring him back." No they don't. It's the same reason every time. "Time travel, Barry, so weird."
Couple of things: 1. No “Armageddon real sick of this” jokes 2: the writers weren’t sure going into season 8 if it’d be the final season or not and so wrote certain things as if it were, hence why season 1 characters returning might feel ‘final seasony’ and then were only able to make a few altered cliffhangers at the end as to have threads to continue for season 9
The dudes back story COULD have been insanely touching. “I saw Marvin’s ray gun. So my friend and I started playing pretend, I wanted to be Marvin so I grabbed my dads gun. But I didn’t know it was loaded. My friend died.” Boom
I loved the bit where Iris realises she might kill everyone around her, then Frost dies and she ends up in the same room as everyone she loves and isn't worried at all. Like I get they are in shock and morning etc but she just forgets that she might just dissolve everybody out of existence lol.
@@makisbizarreadventure4669 The Royal Flush Gang are everyone's villains; they can be used and re-used and re-invented. They aren't CHARACTERS; they're a CONCEPT. That's their function. Doesn't anyone who watches "The Flash" actually read any comics?
@@Scipio488 yes, I do. You sound like a smart ass. The royal rush gang isn’t part of The Flash’s rogue gallery. The Justice League has fought them sure, but they are not a part of his rogues gallery and he barely interacts with them. So them being used only on his show now and no where else is weird. Why are you even responding to me?
@@nmr7203 The point is, if you don't read the comics then why make criticisms of the show as they relate to the comics? It would be like if I was criticising the "inaccurate" science of a movie, then when someone comes along saying that the science is actually pretty sound I respond with "well, it's not like anyone goes around reading science journals!".
Hey Ross, I know you hate doing these but they honestly make my whole week. I set aside time in an evening and binge the whole thing, just laughing constantly. Thank you so much.
I think the problem with the Flash is that if you watched it without sound it would make perfect sense. Like structurally it's very well thought out. If they build a device, or meet a new villain, they fail at the beginning, so they have to learn from that mistake, and get better. Problem is they are trying to be more than a kids cartoon, so the lesson of the episode can't be just "Oh, Chester, your device failed because you didn't listen to your friends. Listening to feedback is very important in improving yourself". So they try to sound more adult and profound and dig a little deeper, and it stinks.
Exactly if someone removed all the background music the season as a whole would be a solid 7.5 also it’s saddening that people really think Eric Wallace is going to give us the finale we all want but he won’t and it’s gonna hit them hard in 9x13
@@KuroAceVT except season 1 had actual logic, and meaningful character arcs, and development, and cool usage of powers. Like, in a show about a speedster, I don't care about the reverse version of the forces somewhat related to the speedsters power source. I legit think they've forgotten that the Flash is meant to be about speed.
As someone who's resently become obsessed with black fire thanks to elden ring, it was quite a surprise to see that a villain for this season is literally just black fire (not to be confused with the other dc villain called blackfire)
I commend you on doing this because I stayed with this show until season 6. Kept hoping that things would’ve gotten better since season 4 but was let down time after time and I see the they’re continuing their streak
Watching your Flash videos is the only way I know they are still producing the show as someone who dipped out in Season 3. I was going to say "Godspeed, Ross" but now I realise how hacky that is. Good luck.
The whole ‘speedster meddles with time and triggers an alien attack with the aliens wanting to kill Barry’ was a lot better when it was the plot of the invasion crossover.
50:28 I've seen jokes that the kid's dead and Cecile's crazy and in denial. Since she's somehow more annoying than Iris and only exists to have visions, scream about then and spell out characters obvious feelings because the writers think the audience is dumb I believe it.
Thank you for all of the mental and physical fortitude to get through this series. I would rather the time remnants suck my soul than ever watch this past season 2.
You mean "this time there's 7 colours of lightning in the sky instead of 4 and the entire Flash team are Speedsters instead of just Barry, Iris, Nora, Bart, Speedforce Nora, Jay Garrick and Kid Flash fighting Reverse Flash, Godspeed, Savitar, Zoom, Rival, etc, etc"
Yesss finally Ross you know you pointed out a lot of things that most RU-vidrs who reviewed this season didn’t. Like for example when Chester was acting like a straight up child when Ray turned down the whole pitch meeting and that I personally thought was absolutely ridiculous and I was literally asking myself how old is this guy to be acting like that anyways thanks for suffering I guess and me at least I think they completely wasted the real version of Thawne and by that I mean Matt Letscher’s Thawne not Tom Cavanaugh and seriously I can’t tell if you’re being fr about liking Chillblaine because me personally he’s just a joke and honestly Despero and Deathstorm weren’t that bad
Wouldn't be the first time. Remember Oliver's 14 year old that acted like a 5 year old crying about the bad man in his dreams, or Barry's 20-something (or hell maybe even 30) year old daughter who never stopped whining or having tantrums
@@the_competent_gamer9454 exactly I totally forgot about that and again I found that extremely pathetic and to an extent humiliating if you will especially for Nora acting like a child when she was supposed to be an adult but William is no exception he was supposed to be a teenager or at least going into that teenage phase and he acted like a 6 year old so nonetheless they were both nothing but cringe
@@ilovezoom3719 yea...ultimately the shows became jus that. Pathetic. They had their issues, but Arrow and Flash's S1-2 were just amazing. After that, they each became repetitive nonsense that were chores to get through
I really want him to turn into the lightning bolt that strikes him in the pilot. Maybe they could end with the article “flash vanishes in crisis” and we realize that he was always destined to disappear regardless of the Crisis on Infinite earths
These are the only videos from you I watch 😂 To be fair on the Thawne “death” they said they did that because they weren’t sure if they would get another season so they had to wrap that up just in case. I too think he’ll be back for the final season because of course he will.
Finally someone calling out this season on its BS writing and character beats. It felt like after S7, everyone was calling this season some sort of return to form as if its on par with the first 2 seasons. So it's refreshing to see someone actually saying things how they are rather than calling it good just because they think its an improvement over S7, which was atrocious itself. Eric Wallace has truly made it a kids show meant to be watched by 5-10 year olds.
You know how it’s incredibly difficult to write a character that is smarter than you are in real life? Well that’s why all the characters feel like donkey brained children in adult bodies, because that’s what the writers are.
Imagine longing for the season 3 days because season 8 makes it look like the best season ever written. Crazy how this show somehow outdoes itself every year in getting worse and worse, its actually impressive!
About Damien, yes, definitely showed up on Legends. In season 1 he's a villain they encounter in history, and it's about Sara's struggle not to save her sister. In season 2, he's the Damien before the end of season 4 of Arrow, taken by Reverse-Flash in his team of baddies. In season 3 however the character is brought back to life after his death on Arrow. We learn that on top of his plan on Arrow, he also had his daughter Nora put into a cult for her to become the vessel of a demon. It's more about Damien as a father, and the more it goes on, the more the villainy fades away for fatherhood. We see him work with Ray mostly, who's in love with Nora, and even pretend to torture Nate in a funny scene, where they talk things out. He's still bad but his love for his daughter is stronger and he ends up working with the Legends, even to the point where he was thanksfull to Ray for saving his daughter in an episode. In the ends he does sacrifice himself for her as mentioned on the show. In season 5 multiple souls from Hell are unleashed across times, including of course Damien. Instead of doing villany, he came to check on Nora. Since season 4 she became a fairy godmother, and is dating Ray, which he obviously doesn't like. But he ends up accepting his daughter's path, he doesn't object to Ray proposing to Nora. The episode ends with him leaving the party early, and having a last talk with Sara. They don't fight but say that they still won't ever forgive each other. Damien leaves stealing a Hell weapon, but it turns out that he uses it to send himself back to Hell, as he had no intention to hurt people.
In my opinion, despite it being canceled unfortunately. DC’s legends of tomorrow has basically taken the act of “do bullshit for bullshit” and changed it into actual good entertainment. Their seasons get more and more ridiculous, and they basically have made “do shit cus we want” into an art form. If you go in there looking for a serious show, kind of like how arrow and flasher originally supposed to be starting out, do you want to find much enjoyment. But if you just go in there as a normal viewer, and just watch it without a critique taste. You’ll find each season starting to edge off from being so serious and more fun. There’s plenty of meta-jokes as a joke about crossovers and now they are tired of doing them and a bunch of other funny shit. The connections are actually really well established, and relationships are actually slow burn, not like flash where it’s awkward and seems out of nowhere. I’d highly recommend it.
The writers really wanted us to believe that Iris would marry Thawne. You know, the dude who looks like a fucking cartoon super villain. lmfao this show cannot end soon enough. Also, Matt's Thawne ripping off his face to reveal Tom's reminded me of Sting taking off a Sting mask to reveal himself in WCW. pure gold.
I like how CW didn't learn anything and puts 20 episode in flash. Like 3 episode short can change anything. Also the budget is getting lower so why not cut episode to save money?
Why is the Armageddon Crossover just episodes of the Flash? Normally these crossovers are split between different shows. Also, I like CW suits. With a lot of these it feels like they're not afraid to embrace the goofier looking comic suits, unlike MCU, which downplays a lot of sillier bits of the designs. Like they almost never have Thor wear his helmet.
Ross, you deserve a medal. The last time I gave a shit about arrow or flash was season 3 for both. Watching these videos from you every year is something I look forward to as a metric for my own personal growth. I think the quality of all of the cw shows has been the same since day 1. We've just grown up as the audience
i think a show about a consistent fight between two people can be so awesome. jojo is an excellent example of this, and kingpin and daredevil are fantastic rivals. hell the arkham games are mostly just how the joker and batman relate to each other and it’s great. but no this is the flash we can’t have nice things
I am sane enough and conscious enough to know this show has its flaws, some points more than praises. I know the show is bad, but I can't help but love it. Mostly because of nostalgia, and because I watched all of the arrowverse (excluding Batgirl, Superman and Lois, and Stargirl) with my Mom and Dad. These are fond memories I will take with me long after the show's done.
Same here. Like, I don’t think it’s a perfect season. There’s still some issues within the season, but I think it’s one of the best seasons in a while (besides S6, I liked S6).
32:57 The show's obsessed with making Iris seem like the most saintly being on Earth. They expect the audience to go "Aww Iris reunited a girl with her mother. What a good person she is" even though Seasons 3 and 5 in particular show Iris only cares about herself.
Iris stalked a teenager, threatened to put her to the public, cornered her with a friend who threatened to hurt her, caused the death of the girls mother and didn’t self isolate when she had a very dangerous illness. She’s the villain
Wow you are very obsessed with her. It's kinda pathetic... Like you can say the same thing and more for every other character but you only pin point her in a season she nearly didn't do anything. 🥴
@@mariha63 With most of the other characters they're called out on their wrongdoings, their flaws are acknowledged and they're right when they're right and wrong when they're wrong. But the show treats Iris like she can do no wrong, has no flaws and is always right.
@@mariha63 okay…. Why are you mad that a comment about iris is about iris. Not every comment has to be a detailed deconstruction about the all the cast
@@lewisbaldwin9683 cause the obsession and double standards people have for her is upsetting. But I guess the hate colored lenses y'all see the show as prevent it... So much so that in a season she was barely in that is all you talk about. I think the most frustrating thing about The Flash is how it was ultimately about Barry's grief, and learning to move forward in the beginning. And now death means nothing unless you really piss the writers off.
This is the only way I can watch Flash also Diggle rejecting the box, I dont think its a lantern ring or it was phrased weirdly, just seems like a big disappointment after they kept bringing it up. But cant have The CW without disappointment.
No the flash’s costume looks close to perfect now with the boots. And deathstorm looks fucking sick and you cannot tell me otherwise. I agree with everything else though.
Ross the Royal Flush Gang is actually a classic foes of the JLA first formed and led by Professor Amos Fortune represented by the clubs, then spades later the group became an nationwide organized crime cartel with each of the four suits, clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades. A.so the purple guy with the third eye is called Despero again another JlA classic foe.
Everytime the show kept running the same ol pattern, I just picked up my phone and started scrolling thru until it got my attention again. Prolly about until the last two episodes it got my attention again....until the 2nd half of the last episode lolol.
I disagree. I find it much better than the lame seasons 6 and 7. So, while still mediocre, it's an improvement, some episodes were genuinely good and had some good scenes, so it makes no sense to me why you'd draw everything in a negative light. No, not all of it was bad. The finale though, was disappointing, this is the cheesiest-looking version of Thawne we got so far, and with the worst costume. This season Barry is FINALLY a self-sustained superhero, he doesn't need someone whispering "run Barry, Run!" in his ear to succeed, he isn't proved wrong all the time and actually proves wrong others at some point(which I found REALLY surprising and a good character progression), Iris was absent for like half of the season which was also a highlight. To put it short they avoided a lot of stuff that made the last 2 seasons so bad and focused more on the good stuff.
