Indasamanagotta Jataka (Jataka #161)
In this video, the Buddha tells a story of the past to teach a stubborn monk.
Wat San Fran is proud to present stories taken from the Jatakas, Dhammapada, and Buddhist history. These stories often use past rebirth stories (Jatakas) to reveal the connection between past and present, and illustrate the relationship between cause and effect.
Check out the playlist #AnimatedBuddhistStories by Wat San Fran to explore the complete series.

There is so much to learn from this story.. 😇🙏🙏🙏 1. The more pleasure people had, the less they saw the reality of human condition. 2. When people had power they lost their sense of humility, they were desensitized to suffering, loss and death. 3. Eventually all beings will die, and leave all pleasure and belongings behind. All that we take with us are our qualities. 4. To force something to go against its nature is to create suffering for oneself. 5. You must look past your desire and see reality. 6. Elephants have been known to kill even those that own them. 7. We should have no dealing with the bad. 8. The wise know not to associate those who do evil, sooner or later evil will do evil. 9. But if you met a person that you know to hold the same morality, wisdom and learning as you do, you should choose such a person as a friend. 10. Good friends and blessings go hand in hand. 11. All of we should learn to be docile, humble and not obstinate, that is a proper training. 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏

🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Thank you so much for uploading this. Amazing as I had thought I had watched all wat San Fran Jataka animations and was just re watching them and realised that I hadn’t seen this one before . This holds a particular personal meaning as in 2019 ( I think..before COVID-19), I stayed at Wat Pa Boonyawad and during my stay a wild elephant broke into the monastery and a local person who came over to try and help with catching it was attacked by the elephant and killed. He wasn’t, however being obstinate but trying to help. The abbot, Ajahn Dtun, who was in Australia at the time said that it would have been caused by kamma from a past life. Another monk had said that he thought the man killed would be in a good destination because he died trying to help the monks. Yes elephants can be killers ..the Bodhisattva, of course, was right.

Thank you for your wonderful videos. I would really like to know the practice outcomes for each of these stories. Currently, some include the stage or state arrived at by the person serving as the object of the lesson, and some not. Did the obstinate monk attain realization or did he fall into unfortunate states? Was he able to understand at last what the Buddha was teaching him? Please keep these coming! They are so inspiring.

@@watsanfran Thank you for your attention. The amba jataka what I mentioned is different, it is amba jataka 174. It is not about Arhant amrapali.

Oh, come on, elephants are not evil by nature. You just have to feed them in time. Some of the jatakas sadly are really outdated and somehow cruel and unfair to animals.
@theinngu5560
@theinngu5560 5 месяцев назад
Actually I have the personal experience where this is not true….see above comment I made. I was also surprised, I thought that elephants were sweet natured and it is not so if they are injured, hungry, caring for young etc. After the event I experienced, people in Thailand told me that every year people are killed by elephants and monks told me stories too about elephants that attack.

@@theinngu5560 So, you're saying that elephants are evil by nature? It doesn't mean that it's all right to keep an elephant basically imprisoned without any food! Any animal will become angry if starved!And no animal is cruel. They lack the psychological ability to be cruel, they act on instinct.
