You are going to need larger premises RJ, so much "stuff". The Pilot is really rather majestic.

I'd only end up filling a larger space, although I have pondered whether an extra shed of some kind would be worthwhile.

Nice, fun little film. After my Mk1 Escort was nicked off the drive and smashed up by ar**'oles, I had two HC Vivas. Quite easy to work on with basic tools and sturdy underneath, provided the old Finnigans Waxoyl had been regularly applied from new (ish). I was never as fond of them as I was my Escort, though.

I do love the posts of going through your sheds and seeing all the many things you both have collected. By the way, that 1948 Ohio plate of Harley's is an auto plate. The tougher ones to find are trailer, motorcycle, sidecar, farm and truck plates. The bottom line where "Ohio-1948" is will have the word ,"Farm, Truck or Trailer" embossed on them. The motorcycle and sidecar ones are smaller with the letters MC or SC stamped to the left of the number in a stacked format. Interesting that you find Ohio plates in the UK. Pretty easy to find here in Ohio, of course!

The Chuckle Brothers came to mind when moving the oil cabinet though sadly one of them is no longer with us. I think that the petrol can move was a very wise thing to do. It is possible that the heat from the sun melted the solder over time thus one decided to let go. The door cards on the Standard would be quite easy to replace even for someone with no upholstery skills, if I lived near you I would willingly do them for you. The Ford pilot looked very regal trundling along through the town and quiet out on the road. I do hope the new cables will help in the starting from cold issue, I have every confidence that they will be a great improvement. Thank you to Harley for allowing us inside 'Ned the Shed' and for his help in filming all the action. Those licence plates looked great. Thanks Rick for the adventure, something for everyone in this video. 👍👍

Moving that oil cabinet was like watching a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing! Great minds think alike, I too have to have a major shift around to make space. My problem is I don't have a youthful assistant.

Great video, and lovely to see the Pilot on its outing. The Standard also had an airing and looks good too. Thanks for sharing your morning out - it's funny now, having watched so many of your videos, I'm beginning to recognise some of the cars - the Spitfire for example. Take care 🙂

I passed my driving test in a Standard Ten in 1957 and in 1975 found a Standard Eight sitting in bits in a warehouse in Essex with resident mice. I’m not a mechanic and didn’t have a workshop but with some friend’s help put it together. It ran for about five years until I couldn’t find spares for the steering so it went to the breaker’s. My son talks about Stanley to this day and he is 54. Good memories - thanks.

That clip of the Pilot by the corrugated iron shed, reminds me of the only time I have seen a Pilot in the flesh. When I was a young kid in the early 60's at my grandad's cottage/smallholding in Shropshire, there was a tatty old car with flat tyres etc. parked in front of a similar shed/garage at the edge of his property. It looked really old fashioned to me and when I asked my grandad what it was, he said it was a V8 Pilot belonging to a neighbour, that had just been left there. Cars only seemed to last about 10 years in those days so no doubt it was never saved, as an old fashioned thirsty old banger. The 10 year MOT test had recently been introduced and that put a lot of old cars off the road.

A sack barrow would be useful moving that oil cabinet . I remember those cabinets from the days when cars burnt oil regularly. Very interesting.

Yes we have an old sack truck thing down the side of the garage, but it'd need modifying I think, maybe I'll dig it out!

Very nice video the standard is a lovely car and sounds so sweet. Just a thought , why not use the oil in the cabinet for oily ragging and save the more valuable WD40 for emergencies.

Mice... do you use anything to prevent mice getting around the cars and eating cables etc.?
@peterward3965
@peterward3965 9 месяцев назад
Hi, I had that trouble mice / rats? Chewed around the top of my windscreen plastic water bottle on my Citroën Visa C15 van which was parked in a wooden garage. Luckily they never chewed cables etc. It seemed very odd to me at the time. Thinking they were after water. I placed a large plastic bottle of water on the ground underneath the van engine when parked up, and sprinkled rat poison pellets around the front area of the van. I picked up four dead mice all in all. But the water bottle has never been touched. I've had no trouble since, I've left the bottle of water and now and again sprinkle more pellets.
@richardholland1116
@richardholland1116 9 месяцев назад
I will not use poison as we have cats which eat mice and live out in the countryside and have owls and foxes.
@peterward3965
@peterward3965 9 месяцев назад
@@richardholland1116 I'm in the countryside, I haven't seen any dead cats owls, foxes , I do feed foxes which i shouldn't really.. Lay down mice traps then or suffer chewed electric cables. Just trying to be helpful.
@richardholland1116
@richardholland1116 9 месяцев назад
Thanks Peter, I've got four traps around the engine bay, one humane type under the car and sprayed cables with mice repellant. Just wondering what Richard does with all his vehicles.
@oldclassiccarUK
@oldclassiccarUK 9 месяцев назад
We get them in the house and in the garage at times, we just put the odd trap down but with fields nearby they are a constant pest esp in the winter.

Im watching this , because i didnt view it 5 months ago. That 1939 number plate is very nice. I havent looked,at a number plate in that way before. It came up real good with some oil on it. A question , what is happening with your Austin A40 project ?. I know im viewing this now ,so has there been some progress with it since this video ?.

Best is to get hold of the factory workshop manual that covers all the small sidevalve Fords (Pops, Prefects, 10cwt van etc), that'll give you plenty of pointers. Joining the Ford Sidevalve Owners Club wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Love how you casually say you might put a new engine in the Standard 8 one day! Nonetheless it sounds pretty darn healthy. Enjoyed the amazing oily rag transformation of the licence plates. I see Harley used WD40 - what oil do you use on an old car body? I'm so glad I discovered your channels; they provide a wonderful escape back to better days. Sunday evening with OCC, Cartraction and a San Miguel (or two) - what more can a man ask for!
@oldclassiccarUK

WD40 can work on a car body, or lately I've treated one or two to a wipe over with boiled linseed oil which does a good job. Thanks for following our stuff!
