It heavily signals LOW VALUE. I'm going to message someone if he consistently gets back to me within minutes that guys too reactive, or might be needy. However I think its fine to do this internally, within your business. Get shit done fast, go! With customers, you want to be fast and steady aswell, but watch the timing. I'm a painter by trade and I'm always in people's homes giving estimates. I get a lot of work because of my response time. I also go into their homes respectfully and confidently. I'm in their personal space and I never want them to feel uncomfortable or uneasy in their own homes because I'm coming off like I'm in a rush (even if I am) or like I deserve their work and their losing out of they don't pick me (even though I do because I'm good at what I do). I always thought I was missing something when clients or workers around me would be taking time off and acting without urgency. "You need to give yourself me time", "You deserve rest", "Everybody is off today, so why do I need to work." Now I realize it's an asset. I'm not a workaholic, but I'd rather do something now than just put it off until tomorrow. I have no rules around when I should work or do things. If I need rest, my body will tell me. Otherwise I march forward. Appreciate you putting this in context with real examples. Certainly helps me understand the mindset better.

Amazing video. I sometimes get ridiculed for being “too fast” with things, but there’s a reason to be fast. Getting your dinner order FAST is good, arriving to work FAST on time is good, becoming wealthy FAST is good. But there needs to be a balance with being fast and being effective. Fast can breed sloppiness if done incorrectly, but if you’re fast with prestigious actions success will fall in your hands easily.

Besides doing things with a sense of urgency you need to be able to convey yourself to the other people as calm and confident in order to make it work. If you ramble or sound desperate because you're trying to move things along quickly it will never work.

I think it was Steve Jobs that said that the moment you have all the information, you should make a decision in the next 5 minutes. Even if it is a multi-billion dollar decision. It might be a 50/50 decision where the wrong choice can cost you a ton of money, but if you have all the information, delaying won't let you make a better decision. You just waste time and cause yourself extra stress while you think about it over and over again. Deciding and acting fast actually saves you time. Delaying something until after the New Year... you still have to do it after the New Year. Just do it now. You have to accept the fact that sometimes your best informed choice will be wrong, but acting fast gives you more time to fix it.

Patrick, I completely agree and enjoy the majority of your videos and the message they convey. Personally, I'm very much into the "move quickly" mentality. However, for certain situations, in particular, your conversation with the publishing company, it comes down to prioritization. Just playing devil's advocate here, what if the owner of this publishing company doesn't want to seem too eager to speak with you because he knows you're interested in potentially buying his company. If he shows that he is too eager and/or "moving quickly", it will show weakness on his end and subconsciously give you the impression that he would accept your first offer(which is most likely going to be a lower offer). Perhaps in this particular case, he is interested in speaking with you but doesn't want to come off as being too eager. My point is, while I agree with the overall message of moving quickly and getting things done in a timely manner, sometimes not to move quickly is a strategic move within the overall bigger picture.

I’ve always worked with urgency and assess the world of probability. If 60% or more on my side, I go all in into it. However, a manager used to tell me to slow down and determine pros and cons before moving forward. That was 10 years ago. If I assess situation, I’m way ahead now by acting quickly. Sure, I’ve failed couple of times and should have slowed down to avoid certain things. However, because of this, the 60% made me 60% better as a person and professional!

But i'm also ready to go the next day after a huge accomplishment because I know deep down I don't need to relax or need a break. What I can add to this is make sure you reward yourself too! Take breaks. If you don't feel a huge need to take a break then don't, if there is more gas in the tank than use it just make sure you aren't running on empty.

I’m 24 years old from South Africa. I worked as a griller for literally a year but in that year I used to go to work on my off days to clean and do work I couldn’t do when I was on shift. When things needed to be done I would go out of my way to get things done immediately. A year later I got promoted to floor manager, still kept the same mentality and got moved to another store but this time I had to run 2 shops(Fishaways and Steers which are next to each other merged into one)with literally little experience. The stock counts, customer complaints, the stress from staff but one thing I’m always organized and out of the box thinker. I had those shops under my wings like I owned the franchise. It’s a few months later and I’m again being given another position at Debonairs Pizza cause my boss owns about 7 shops and is now buying 2 more. Because I get things done he is reliant on me to get things done.

However I think its fine to do this internally, within your business. Get shit done fast, go! With customers, you want to be fast and steady aswell, but watch the timing. If the client messages me at 11pm and its routine stuff not important, tmr ill reply. I may have seen the message, but I'm not going to reply.
