I remember the old days where earning $40 at the Butcher was a good haul.

There is also a cougar spawn right above the i in Great Plains, it spawns laying down in the grass every time.

I love the RNG of animal spawn. When I'm trying to hunt them, there's nothing, not even a squirrel. But when I'm on selling mission, oh boii. It's like they're just back from the party. Deer or Buck travel in a fucking massive colossal humongous herd. Including ants.

Animal Spawn rate sucks, yeah. But what i hate is when you take down 4 or 5 medium animals, and all but 1 or 2 just disappear while skinning/stowing the first

I've been playing RDO only about two weeks and already discovered the Great Plains for hunting. Hunting is one of my favorite things to do in game and the Great Plains is my favorite location. Nice to know the other two locations, also, so thank you much for them.

A VERY underrated place to hunt in this game is high up in the grizzlies past Lake Isabella

There's a little misinformation about goin into legendary bounty. You can't spawn huntin wagon in wolf man bounty. You can't even skin wolves.

Cougar spawns above cholla springs is the only one you need, sometimes I find as many as 3 or 4, 3 star cougars in one trip...set your camp to gaptooth ridge for quick back and fourth...your welcome

The only thing that annoys me about hunting for long periods of time is when you've collected max pelts on your horse and max carcasses in your wagon and then BOOM disconnected from the servers 😓😥😢...thank f*ck the wagon carcasses don't go away, but they should at least implement that same rule for horse cargo and pelts

I have been playing rdr2 since December 2018 and the game was fun until about 3 months ago idk I would play the game for hours and then suddenly it just became empty I was tired of doing the same thing over and over I wanna go back to summer 2019 rdr2 that’s when red dead was the best imo and Even though the Beta was empty I miss it

I’m about to put y’all on. Head over the little creek river at west Elizabeth. Once your around the middle of the creek set up your camp. Now just ride up and down the creek and an insane amount of animals spawn constantly

Great plains is best for me. Set camp just south of Blackwater, go to the cougar spawn by the windmill and house, back up to camp to drop off, then get a couple of bison then back to camp, back to the cougar spot, rinse and repeat. Potent predator bait seems to work well.

The cougar in tall trees is still there. I hunt 3 star cougars there everyday, and it respawns literally within 30 seconds to a minute.

Cattail Pond is a great location as well: never ending cycle of elk, turkeys, white tail, Canadian geese, more white tail, bighorn sheep, turkeys, elk, white tail, bighorn (generally in that order if you ride in from the northeast and circle counter/anti-clockwise around the lake to the moonshine shed, down to where you loot the train Chapter 1 of RDR2 back to start) Also a 2am owl spawn on the tree stump just north of the lake Also, if I could actually pay R* to have my camp ALWAYS in the middle of the Heartlands Overflow (the camp thats in the water, not behind the trees NE of it) then I would. I love hunting there. Even w 25 players I still have animals spawn all over there

As of Feb. ‘24 there's a buck spawn location at the Heartland Overflow. It's located right near the letter ‘N’ on the ‘New HaNover’ on the Jeanropke map. Sort of the northern section of the water area. I was camped near the overflow area the other day and every time I brought a buck back to Cripps, a new buck was spawned back in. If you need small animals for the “donate 20 animals in 10 minutes” for the Trader Role. Head over to the Bluewater Marsh and from there move east towards the Lannahechee River where the train tracks split. Lots of toads, small birds, rats and squirrels. Plus larger animals like gators for big game meat, pelicans for the exotic bird meat and plenty of medium size animals like foxes. My last favorite spot is in the Great Plains, between the Beecher’s Hope location (John’s property in story mode) and moving east towards Manzanita Post. Lots of big game like rams, deer, elk, cougars, occasional wolves, black bear plus all the smaller animals.

That spot on heartlands overflow is what keeps me in explosive ammo. Love that animal fat.

My favorite place for my camp is Little Creek River. Lots of 3 star deer, plus the gang hideout at Hanging Dog Ranch. Not to mention it’s (to me), one of the most beautiful locations on the map.

My best places are the snow biome, little creek river, around Strawberry and the sheep in Valentine and Emerald Ranch

Lavender fields in big valley, west elizabeth is the best location imo. You can have your camp there and just make runs up and down the field and fill up your wagon and materials bar in no time

One of my favorites is just outside of Saint Denis by the bridge. Tons of 3 star alligators around there. That was the spot I used to gain an empire of cash. Putting their pelt on my horse and often times running into St.Denis with one over my shoulder as I didn't wanna leave it behind. I didn't have the trader wagon just yet, so I used what method I had to work with. Shooting a guy off his horse to get another storage spot was an option, but passersby would always catch me and I'd be 7 bodies in before I got my extra horse and trying to keep your pelt from disappearing was always fun. 😅

Butchering all animals, not even making sure they’re in their top shape is… well, stupid. Red Dead story tells you how respecting what you hunt is important. It’s a game, I get the industrial mentality but I’m honestly not a fan. Picking the most interesting animals while leaving the rest of them be is actually more interesting to me in a role play perspective… and still quite efficient too.

I did two bounties and didn’t get paid for any of them but my friend in my posse got paid. Soo many problems in the game currently plus no additional content

It's tiring when you get a DC while moving the carcasses to your wagon or even when there are lots of materials on the back of your horse, you lose everything.. except what's kept

I prefer to hunt in Big Valley.

I hunt above owanjila which is left of strawberry on the map, if you go above that on your horse you'll find a location of what looks to be dead leafless trees where boar spawn, if you go farther you'll find a beautiful spot filled of purple flowers that you can get your camp to spawn in at that has a river going through it, there you can find packs of deer time to time and elk, sometimes very rarely wolves to, then if hunting for money not trader closer to the lake is gus where you can sell animal parts, so at the lake you can find rarely but possible find moose, beavers, birds that sit on the lake and fish, you go more up you find deer and sometimes elk, you go left of that you can follow a stream going from the lake to the open purple flower spot, by the stream you can find ducks, if you go more up near the mountain you will find a spot with leafless trees (where you can also get you camp to spawn at) and there will be boar in that area, go even farther up and you reach a open thing of purple flowers with a farm near it where you can find whitetail deer, whitetail bucks, pronghorn deer and bucks, some times wolves, and elk, rarely (out of my long time hunting there I only found this 3 times) a moose. If you go even farther up, to the right of the farm and near the train tracks you can find wooded area where bear spawn sometimes, if I'm correct you can also super far left of it. Also in the wooded area above it there is someone that I think gives missions and outside of their house they have chickens I think and I think sheep you can kill and bring back to your camp and all of that is close together and you can probably get from the lake to the purple flowers within a minute or 2 on a horse (I use a mustang, I think you can also get there that fast with a Tennessee horse, not to sure about scrawny nag) Long comment but I always loved hunting there and I wanted to say what all was there Edit: There are also tracks or roads near all of that so while looking for animals you can stop wagons and loot the chest and lock boxes also there are packs of wild horses that spawn near the area with purple flowers

Scarlett Meadows is the best location to hunt as a beginner with no hunting wagon. You don’t even have to leave your camp to hunt. Deer and Bucks will spawn all around your camp. You kill them from the camp and bring out your horse to pick them up. Cripps is always full of material.

I know this comment is late, and y’all prob won’t need it with the new update that changed the spawn rate, but whenever you kill an animal, next time you travel through the same place it will re-spawn. The quality will change, but the animal will always be there

I haven’t seen the Cougar, North of lake Owanjilla in ages. I’m guessing R* patched it.

Northwest of Strawberry Town (or whatever) you can find a abundance of Whitetail deer, and you can find a golden eagle perch spawn there. (It also looks very beautiful!)

The animal spawns are fine... it’s supposed to be realistic. You don’t finds thousands of animals in on spot....

I ALWAYS place my camp at the heartlands ! There are 3 bucks that spawn on the regular! Triangle ( emerald ranch ) from town go to fast travel area and behind that is a hill go up and to right there is a buck ( on top of hill spawns 4 deer on regular) Once past fast travel to left is a Triangle path area on map with rr and path cross to make Triangle ( always a buck there laying down ) And finally the a buck drinking from heartland overflow on backside closest to rr tracks And countless duck fat location ( heartland overflow) All is within very short distance and if it was a flat area u could get all 3 with rifle but u can due to hills and trees blocking

If you don't wanna take the longest time skinning animals just put your horse in front of the carcus and you get a very quick skinning animation

I like hunting Panthers south of Rhodes near catfish jacksons and Black Belle's Stranger mission

My two best locations would have to be cumberland forest and tall trees

Big Valley is a great spot for rabbits, longhorns, bucks, and elk. The spot around Gus's shack in West Elizabeth is a great spot for boar, deer, bear, snakes, raccoons, opossum. I haven't seen the cougar over there from single player yet, but I always clean up where the trees have fallen and there are a bunch of dead trees close to Gus.

The area around tumbleweed is quickly becoming my favorite place

Only 4 minutes into the vid.. not bad so far *over flow area is used for duck/goose farming. Obviously for the fat. That's needed in pvp for explosive ammunition *when hunting byson Do not use a bolt action Use a cacarno Or the rolling block Use express ammo And stack your ability damage cards While in dead eye. There are red markers which indicate 1 shot deaths. One is the head and the other is the heart Shooting down a whole herd of byson takes some practice but it's manageable. Make sure you buy the trinket from gus which gives a higher chance of 3 star pelt. I use this location and great plains to do a full restock and getting a high number of 3 star pelts cuts the time down dramatically

I like this one area a little bit above Saint Denis that has alligators, deer's, and birds. The reason why I like it so much is because a lot of alligators spawn and the fact that the butcher is close by so you can just kill the alligators, skin them take them to the butcher and just head back to the area again.

I learned (This is as of 08/01/2020 the patched online version of RDR2) that by submitting the whole animal, your materials bar fills up faster now. So that I do is get as much pelts I can starting with small animals first, and then I got for a bison or elk. Once that is done, I can go off and do the treasure hunting or collecting.

I have noticed something strange about the animal spawns. I have a lvl +250 I've played for over a year and that one have the animal spawn problem. Then, some month ago, I started a new toon and there where tons of animals all the time. Now, I have reached lvl 140 with that toon and around lvl 134 I noticed the animals where beginning to go away. First the sheeps at the farms and the cows. Then there starts to slowly become longer and longer between animals. It almost seems like it a way to get the game harder for high level players, so it's not so easy to earn $ and gold. No matter what it's annoying when your not a dedicated pvp player :-)

for any new ppl watching if u cant afford a hunting wagon yet u can drag carcasses with the lasso and stow one on ur horse...and if it can only be skinned wait untill u drag it back to ur camp to skin it becasuse u obviously cant drag pelts like bear, elk, etc...

The best way to hunt is being in a solo session I play on PS4 and I simply change my MTU size down to 650 which you can find in the network custom settings. Being in a session with near a max session or less tends to spawn less animals and less player encounters too. When in a solo session I find groups of deer and other animals in groups of more than 6 with one or two being three stars.

I mean the animal spawn rate to some animals are actually making some sense like alligators, bisons, and and animals that are extinct, or near extinct

I've found a way of editing a line of code that allows me to enter into a private lobby when booting the game. There's no time limit and the animals spawn really well.

best spot I found is Roanoke Ridge, a camp in the far northeast corner of the map right next to the river - tons of animals spawned (non solo lobby) right on the river across from my camp and just north of the camp and I just wasted moose/deer/etc. constantly and brought them right to camp

To get a solo lobby on PC open Resource monitor, find RDR2.exe and suspend process for 7 1/2 seconds and resume process. You will get a message saying "You have changed sessions due to a network error." you will now be alone in a free roam session.

Lemoyne works well for me. Gators/coyotes/pigs/cougars/deer/all kinds of birds/small animals to shoot. Often times the swamp is quiter too. I make 80 to 100 on average, i dont use trader roll, just sell straight to butcher.

My go to spot is always outside strawberry you can find bears mostly black but you can still find cougars and brown bears

If you have a friend theres a far better solo you can do. it's permanent, crazy amount of spawns and no one can join unless invited and works like a normal public lobby. To do it have a friend in a random session and you start a private poker match. You invite your friend and straght away hover over join game on their profile, when they accept as soon as it tells them its processing invite you then join back on your friend and if you and your friend is quick enough your friend is put into a solo.

Should I skin the animals and just give cripps the pelt or give him the entire animal when I have the option?

I personally love big valley. I was surprised with the spawn. I used to be at heartlands but it became so boring. Sure a lot of sheeps. But I didn't see the fun anymore. I have the scope on my gun so I can kill from further. And if you're lucky. Or respawn and Plan to play all day. You'll be right next to the water, exactly your camp is 5 inch from water So if you enjoy fishing. Well that's your way to go fishing :)

If you kill an animal, you can pick up the body and sell it and if you don't skin the corpse, you sell for more than skinning them

My faviroute spot for hunting is without a doubt big valley you can find birds deer coyote bears pronghorns wolves and theres also a harriet there so its a great spot trust me you can also set up camp there aswell

For solo lobby “PS4/PS5” just change your MTU under advanced internet settings, and set it to 850, that way no other player will spawn in your lobby!!!
