Good video, thank you. My list is smaller now. Have been diving for 52 years. I limit my dives to warm water locations so rash guards and thin neoprene shorts is all I need. I use the HydrosPro BCD w/ Air 2, Mk25 & A700 . My Teric w/ transmitter and my backup A1 for computers. My primary is a little longer and with flexi hose for sharing gas. All my gear except my fins and mesh bag fits in the bcd travel bag which is my carry-on. I still have my table charts, they take no room. Not sure why I still have them as haven't looked at them in a long while. Different diving environments and locations can easily require a more detailed list for sure. I have become more minimalist.

I envy this so much. I’m REALLY working on downsizing the more I travel. Each trip I find I over packed and I’m slowly eliminating things and being more minimalist as well. One day I hope to have it all in a carry on backpack style bag, haha. Maybe camera gear in its own carry on hard side case too. The hydros pro is great for travel from what I’ve heard!

@@CircleHScuba Yes, the Hydrospro is great especially with the Air 2. I have a small 2.5" knife specific to my bcd and Kracken torch. Yes, camera gear carry-on for sure. I still recall the early days dressing up like a friggin astronaut in cold water with a horseshoe bcd, big weight belt and three finger gloves. Never again. I had 2 equipment failures on one dive with rental gear in DR a few years ago. Decided to buy all new again. Glad that I did. Your video reminded me that I need a DMSB. I usually go in groups so haven't used one in a while. Biggest issue for me is having a different buddy every dive and they often team me up with a new diver of one that like to go off on their own.
@CircleHScuba
@CircleHScuba Месяц назад
Ah yeah that’s hard when you’re getting whomever is assigned versus a known buddy. I’m not a big fan of the air 2 units but I also understand why some folks like them. I’ll dive cold in my drysuit, and it’s definitely got that astronaut feel to it haha. I MUCH prefer warm water though.

@@CircleHScuba Curious to know why not a fan of the the Air 2. For me it is about less gear, no octo on my right hip. I have been called out for wearing my computer on my left wrist. I wear my Teric on my left wrist as the Hydrospro has 4 dump valves and on ascents I use the one on my right shoulder.
@CircleHScuba
@CircleHScuba Месяц назад
Wear your computer where you want in my opinion. I happen to do right wrist but I do left sometimes too or if I have two I’ll wear one on each haha. For the Air 2, I’ve seen it confuse people who need air, I’ve seen people not run it with a long hose set up which can be weird to folks not familiar with it and cause the primary donate to be really difficult, and if your LPI fails you’re without a redundant regulator. I know people who love them and I don’t think any of these things cause a huge issue necessarily if you’re diving with someone familiar with your kit. Strangers will need to be briefed every time. Oh and you mentioned dump valves on the right that you use. So in an out of air, you’ll have the inflator in your mouth so you can’t easily deflate on your ascent with that, and buddy on your right potentially panicked and may make using dump valves on that side difficult. Last thing is that people don’t always service their Air2 like they would a normal regulator. That’s something people can fix in their own of course, but people think about regulator maintenance and then end up leaving their BCD assembled with the Air2 not getting service.

Just did a cruise to Mexico and took all my gear…my shoulders were crying halfway back down the pier to the ship. Small save a dive, regs, bcd with metal plate 😅, fins, skin pants and socks and 3 MM shorty, mask, 3 flashlights(?!), batteries, spool, DSMB, computer….best thing I can do is replace the metal plate with plastic but that’s only 3.5 lbs. It’s just a lot to walk with and exactly why I go sidemount over doubles in the first place. Super glad I brought the save a dive kit though. The cylinders were all yoke without the pro-valves and I would have been boned without my adapter.
@CircleHScuba
@CircleHScuba Год назад
Oh man that sounds like a lot to carry regardless haha. I take all my kit except cylinders on trips and local charters I bring my steel 100s so it’s definitely a pain 😅 But you know, it’s worth it when you need the save a dive kit, or a shorty after a week of diving, etc. I bring camera gear too 🤣

How do you like side mount overall? I think that’ll be on my list this year. Get certified, pick up maybe a katana 2 or see what else is out there and fits well
@souswes
@souswes Год назад
@@CircleHScuba I enjoy it very much. I run a katana because it was cheap and well maintained. It takes a while with a good instructor to get it fitted properly but once everything is correct it’s like cheating at diving. Trim is so natural to fall into and makes the skills easier by default. It’s easier on your back, but you do make more trips. It’s very nice if you’re solo certified and a photographer. Counts as a redundant air source and you can just run through both cylinders on a shallow dive getting good images
@CircleHScuba
@CircleHScuba Год назад
Yup, I’m sold haha. I’ve seen enough positive things that I think it’s something I definitely need to do this year, hopefully haha. I teach as well so I’ll still be single tank back mount often, but I’d love to pick up a side mount set up too, run through skills, etc. I also want to get into more technical diving in the future, maybe caverns and some caves, penetrate more wrecks, etc. So many possibilities 🤿🎉
@souswes
@souswes Год назад
@@CircleHScuba exactly. I didn’t want to run the AL40 as a redundant air source kinda dangling there for solo so I went SM for streamlining and want to get into cavern and intro to cave at the very least. Definitely looking into more technical training. I think I’ll keep the professional status at DM and go into TDIs world of fun and numbers. I’ll need the AL40 as a stage for ANDP anyway.

i really did not want to know about the wetsuit pee
@CircleHScuba
@CircleHScuba Год назад
Hahaha, yeah it’s an unfortunate truth to diving. This is another reason why I’d rather not rent my wetsuit. That said, shops do sterilize everything and wash things between uses, but you know, it’s still weird 🤣

big no on dive tables
@CircleHScuba
@CircleHScuba Год назад
🤣 I agree! Haha Dive Tables (RDP) and the electronic one (eRDP) were part of my instructor training and I am so glad I don’t have to regularly calculate dive times and nitrogen saturation on repetitive multi-level dives 😬😂😱 How long have you been diving, and do you own a dive computer? If so, which one? If not, looking at any specifically?
@CFSTB
@CFSTB 2 месяца назад
@@CircleHScuba I've been diving since 1986. When dive tables weren't just the thing, they were the only thing! Pretty easy to plan your dive, but no way would I want to go back to them... but a failed dive computer would not ruin my trip. I would just plan my dive on my phone or grab a set of tables from any dive shop. First computer was a Cressi Leonardo which was quickly replaced with a Suunto Cobra for air integration. I just recently did a major upgrade to a Shearwater Teric with AI.
