What you're doing here Brew2l is solid. I've been a body guy for a while and I'm damn good at it. Teaching it in person is easy. Doing it in a video is difficult. You did a pretty good job of it. For the DIY guys out there this is important! If you try and decide it's not for you... cover it all with an epoxy primer!!!! I can't stress this enough. My shop is booked out 10 weeks right now. Don't let your car sit that long unprotected. It HAS to be an epoxy primer if it will sit

When I was young, a boss I had would give me a deadline & say, "I don't care how you get it done, as long as it's done & done well." I miss that old guy. He taught me a lot of self-confidence, by expressing his confidence in me. I do indeed understand what you're saying 🙂.

This video is giving me sanding nightmares of last year when I did my fox. Had to put the project aside many times just because of the dislike I had for all the sanding I had to do. It really gets to you if your doing it all by yourself. There is a light at the end of the tunnel eventually tho.

Great video. Before I painted my ‘93 Cobra 2 years ago in a makeshift paint booth inside my 2 car garage I watched the Kevin Tate Eastwood series and found it to be very helpful. I had done a bit of body/paint work before but never a full car. Aside from some small imperfections that were bound to happen it turned out great. You can do it!

I figured it out myself and I’m good at it? I can make small things look like glass, but not no huge walls or semis those big huge panels are hard to get perfect. But a fender or a bike tank I can make look like glass especially after I buff it out and wax it. I hand wet sand everything so I can feel when I get it smooth and level if I have used fiberglass or bondo! Depends what I’m painting to which I use! I use two different pads buffing one to take the big stuff off and a finishing pad. That’s and getting the paint good and thick with layers is where you get that good deep shine!

Great info! I painted two cars back in the early 80's, and it was a lot of work, but for the price, it turned out good. I want to paint my 87 LX at some point, it is down to the primer and metal at some points, but now my arms start hurting after a short bit of time doing repetitive tasks like sanding. I'll have to get a good electric sander and try it. Thanks for the informative video!

So helpful! Watching your videos is not only inspiring but reduces the anxiety of what I feel is probably the hardest thing in restoring my foxbody...bodywork and paint. I have a question about timeframe for doing all this work. Is there a, not sure what to call it, shelf life for this type of work? If I can only get to do the work on weekends, how long is it safe to leave a sanded, or bare metal, or primered section unfinished before actually getting to paint it? Thanks again Brew2l! Awesome stuff!
@BREW2LFOXBODY
@BREW2LFOXBODY 2 года назад
No particular time frame as long as the car stays dry and surface rust doesn’t start on the bare metal. Most primers have a working window of a few days but you’ll. Need to check the open time for what your using. You can come back at any time and scuff up your primer and shoot more over the top of it. that will give you a good mechanical bond between coats.

Thanks for the great video. My 89 is a single stage enamel from factory, what’s the proper product to use when painting it? To change to base clear can you simply sand and prime over the enamel or do you need a special product?

Any recommendation for surface rust removal?
@BREW2LFOXBODY
@BREW2LFOXBODY 2 года назад
If it’s just light surface rust I like to sand down past the rust and put a DTM primer, Epoxy or Self Etching primer on it and it’s good to go. Also POR 15 works great on rust if you are unable to remove it. It stops the rust and can be painted over.

I like to circle the dent with a marker. If I start to see the circle then I know the dent is fixed. It works great and my bodywork is laser straight. Also wait till it's dark and shine a flashlight down the sides. It will show if it is truly straight.

Once you finish Painting your Car, and get it the way you want. What do you use to wash the car that protects your investment? I have used Carnauba Wax Car Wash, and other people use Dawn dish washing soap. I just want to use something that won't hurt the paint. Thanks
@tc6580
@tc6580 2 года назад
Any name brand wash specifically made for automotive finishes is fine. I would not use any type of dish washing soap as it will strip wax faster, although I don't think it would damage the paint new clearcoats are pretty durable.

There are levels to everything, as well as right way and wrong ways. I have done my share of metal and body work……Let me tell you throwing mud on a car and sanding it off is one thing, Doing metal work and truly blocking the car until laser strait is whole other. If you want to be a Novice expect a novice job, If you want high end……Don’t try it.

You're making more work for yourself. I like your channel, but you would've better off sanding all the paint off with 80 grit and applying filler to the whole door and blocking it all out at the same time. Working in little sections like your doing, doesn't end up well in the final result.

@BREW2LFOXBODY

I clearly state you have to finish in the correct grits before moving to the next stage. There is more than one correct way to do bodywork. You being a professional should know that.

Not everyone needs perfection. You feel sad for the car? Your heart just mourns , huh?
@foxjunk73
@foxjunk73 2 года назад
@@TheModAddict nothing is ever perfect! No matter how much time is spent on something. When someone spends hard earned money on a project and countless hours why not do it more by the book than by the seat of your pants? I'm all about people doing their own Work and learning a new trait. If you're making how too videos at least try to use recommended procedures. The last thing you ever want to do is put water on body filler. It holds moisture which is horrible for any type of body repairs. Ive been doing this for 30 plus years and still learn better and different ways. I dont keep doing this just because it seems too work.
