He sure is, tell him I said cheers for making my amp (and all the other great amps including the epic DUAL DARK I hope to own one day). I'm one happy metal guitarist thanks to the tone from my Orange :) @@OrangeAmplifiers
I’ve been wanting the pedal baby for some time, I have the micro series amps, and even the terror stamp and I just picked up a 4x12 orange cab the other day. This pedal baby is next on my wish list #wishgranted
Hi Guys, thanks for your time making this video, its very important for the interested in this set. Im from Brasil, and im trying to find the rigth equipment to use with my modeler (MOOERGE300Lite). The main point is the possibility of use the IR together the signal. So, im assembly a cab (fisycal cab) with a FRFR speaker, a brand producing in my country. Do you think that will be a sucesfull combination or not ? I ask to you because i really think that is it important, all the videos here are using the Pedal Baby with modelers, but always with the cab simulator or the IR mode off. This simple thing reduce a lot the possibilities of tones in this kind of equipment. For example, I would like so much to abble to make a choice if i will use a JCM800 with a 4x12 V30 or a 2x12 creamback, that will result in a big difference. So, i will appreciate so much if you can take your time to answer this question. Thanks a lot.
Great idea. I've always loved my FET class A/B mosvalve as a platform for my pedalboard / preamps, and the class D pedal amps don't sound as good. But the mosvalve is out of production and heavy AF. This looks ideal.
Do you need a preamp in front of it or a preamp pedal? Or can you use any distortion/overdrive pedal to run it properly? The name gives the impression that it's a fairly neutral amp designed to be a good, clean pedal platform. But if it NEEDS an external preamp in front then that should have been talked about A LOT more. I've seen lots of reviews and demonstration vids about the Pedal Baby and I don't think a single one really made this detail clear. Some reviewers even ran their guitars straight into it to show its neutral sound without any pedals and when they hooked up pedals to it they never said at least on preamp pedal needs to be in the chain for it to work properly.
@@Da_Publick The point of a preamp is to amplify very low level signals (like guitar or microphone signals) and bring them up to "line level". This is about 1 volt which is at least 1000 times stronger than what the pickups on your guitar or your microphones are able to produce. That's a difference of between 40-60 dB in volume. So the role of a preamp i quite important. On an amplifier this is also where you have your equalizer (EQ), allowing you to shape the sound by adjusting specific frequencies. Usually you have at least 3 knobs. One for bass, one for mids and one for treble. On some amps you may have even more, specific parameters to adjust. After the preamp the signal is sent to a power amp that further boosts the signal, allowing you to drive one or more loudspeakers. Line level signals are simply not strong enough to actually push a speaker properly. Between the preamp and power amp you may also have what's called an "effects loop" that allows you to run certain effect pedals between the preamp and power amp. Usually this is where you'd place your so called "wet effects" i.e. time-based effects like delays and reverbs. The effects loop might also be active or passive, meaning it might be buffered or not, either being buffered by actual valves/tubes or transistors (solid state). But the topic of FX-loops is a separate one.
Nice description. This guy knows his stuff. Defintely more interested in this than in the Seymour Duncan equivalent. I wonder how one would use the Baby 100 in the context of bedroom recording, will there be a Baby 50 ?
cyberprimate I don’t think you need to drop the wattage to 50. As there is very little difference between 50 and 100 ...except mostly clean headroom...but this is solid state and you can get the same CLEAN tone 2-10...but of course the speakers will change the tone when they are pushed ...but if you record direct then it shouldn’t be a problem...Orange makes some really great products even on their lower tier stuff...the only one I don’t care for was the 3watt mini...just because of the speaker size, as it just farts....but the newer version does have a cab sim jack and a cab line out to make it a Low wattage head...neat stuff
From what he said about the class d thing, I should be able to run my 6505+ 's power amp full tilt without worry of it tripping the 100w ceiling of a Torpedo Captor 16. Would this statement be accurate or inaccurate?
The one thing I can't figure out is where this thing ranks on the colouration vs. flat amplification scale. This is important, because you want something with colouration to power preamps and pedals, but you want something flat to power a modeller that has built-in power amp simulation. So, what is this? It can't be perfect for pedals AND modellers at the same time.
I'm trying to get a show worthy quality rig, could I use the pedal baby with the 2x12 and add a second 2x12 if need be when my budget allows problem free?
Yes but if you use a 4x12 it may have alot of low-end and bass for an apartment setting. Basically your neighbors would still feel the rattle. I would use a 2x12 or a 1x12 with a speaker(s) that can handle 100 watts like a celestion redback.
i have a marshall jmp 1 which needs a power amp for getting the right sound especially to record.would this work with the orange pedal baby.this might be stupid question.thanks.
@@charlieboyd2453 I've been trying to find the answer to this exact question for a while now. I believe yoy because that seems to be what's implies, but never explicitly stated anywhere I can find official info/specs on it.
Re-amp your small Orange with a loop, anyone? I'm thinking that the preamp output of the loop of an OR15 or Dark Terror would be awesome into this thing,
Just saw a guy post on an Orange owners Facebook group he does that exactly with a Laney irt Studio (15 watts). Audio sounded great. Not sure about the OR15 but you can run the Laney without a cab hooked up.
What's up with the name for this? Does this take instrument level signals? I mean it is called pedal baby? So shouldn't you put a reamp box between this and a line level output of a preamp if you're gonna be using it that way? I just don't get why the heck would you call it pedal baby I mean, right?
@@jesus4pincho Yes, this is exactly what I'm wondering about. If you NEED a preamp in front of it then why is no one really talking about this in these videos? And not even this official Orange product vid mentions this crucial point. It's marketed as a quite lightweight, affordable, fairly neutral but yet nice sounding pedal platform amp. "It takes pedals really well" is a line I've heard MANY times now but if it needs to be a preamp-pedal in order for this to do its job properly then why isn't anyone talking about it? Having to get a dedicated preamp-pedal as well adds to the pricetag so Orange's customers might want to know this before committing.
Sorry guys but this is a fail. I tried for an hour to get a decent sound out of it before giving up and sending it back. Just makes everything sound a little too fake. Love orange and hopefully they'll relook this in a few years but I'd pass of you're on the fence.
Definitely need a pre amp pedal with this. I tried just running my pedals in and it sounds a bit dead. I bought a joyo preamp house and run it at the end of my chain, sounds amazing now and plenty loud
