Mystifier are another great band from brazil worth mentioning, they do have that war metal-ish edge but are a lot more slow and doomy. Also inquisition (US) originally started out in colombia playing a similar blackened death/thrash style under the name guillotine.

Arthur Brown predates everyone for the crazy corpse like face paint. He was an influence on Alice Cooper. I love the music video for Fire. That had to be edgy for it's time
