read his autobiography, he was loyal to prussia, not to germany. he wasn’t really opposed to german unity, he just didn’t really care about anything but prussian supremacy
@@laisphinto6372 For the better of Germany and our people. The reason might have been rational but we are still united today. Prospering as one nation.
While I do believe Germany did not have to be built on top of toppling 2 other empires and colonizing Africa, I still respect the dude for legit saying to everyone "Ok, and?"
With respect, that’s how those other empires were formed and how not only empires but nations have been and will be formed until judgement day. On top of the bones of the vanquished. Anything else is fantasy.
While I have some... issues with him, he was undoubtedly a shrewd, down-to-earth, and very able politician. After waging war to unite the German within one state, he spent the rest of his political life to keep the tension-ridden Europe at peace. And with its "insurance" policies, he managed to give Germany some welfare.
I myself am not the most religious man and I can definitely understand what our iron chancellor has done in terms of power politics. I don't agree with everything Bismarck did, like how he dealt with the perceived enemies within, but ultimately I stand wholeheartedly behind this great statesman.
