Whats up Gays and Gals!? Welcome or welcome back to my channel! Today I am watching a film that was recommended to me after my reaction to Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood film. I have seen a few western movies over the years but none of the will ever amount to a Clint Eastwood western in my opinion. He is the ultimate badass when it comes to a good old time action movies. He definitely sets the tone when it when comes to tobacco spitting, gun slinging, kicking axx and taking names. You will see in my reaction how much fun I had while watching this movie

Although this movie is fictional, the history behind the film is very real. ‘Bloody’ Bill Anderson (who ride up after Josey’s family had been murdered) was a very real person. The ferry man also mentions ‘Bill Quantrill’ of Qusbtrill’s raiders, also very real (Jesse and Frank James fought in that outfit). The border wars between Kansas and Missouri leading up to the war were pure acts of terrorism, women and children were slaughtered. I’m this movie Josey is a Confederate Raider and at the end of the war they were not afforded the same rights as regular Confederate troops (even the Confederacy did not recognize the raider groups as legitimate). So Fletcher isn’t trying to purposely betray them, the war is over, he has just taken a deal to bring them in to keep them from being hung or shot as raiders. The Senator double crossed Fletcher so his judgment may have been bad, and he may have taken some hold to convince a group considered by both sides as outlaws that it was safe to surrender, but he wasn’t in on tge plan to kill them. The ‘Red Legs’ were also very real and they too were murderers but with better uniforms, and more importantly their side won, so they weren’t held accountable. One last thing - one of the greatest westerns of all time is ‘True Grit’, there is a scene in it where John Wayne’s character ‘Rooster Cogburn’ who like Josey Wales was a Missouri Raider during the war, has an argument with another Ex-Confederate who thinks they were an outlaw group and illegitimate.

@jimilemons3437
@jimilemons3437 2 года назад
Missouri Raiders and Kansas Raiders were murderers - there was no ‘correct’ side, These were horrific attempts to influence political policy and vilify the other side - kind of like right now. As for the war in general - a lot is misunderstood about the motives and intentions of each side but the outcome was in the best interest of all (eventually).
@jeffburnham6611
@jeffburnham6611 2 года назад
Kind of puts Josey Wales on the wrong side though. The Border Wars between 1855-1859 were all about slavery, and the establishment of the new Kansas Territory. This means Josey was pro-slavery, and since Missouri was totally a Union state as of 1961, the film isn't so much about Josey and his association with being a COnfederate raider, but more of vengeance for the loss of his wife and son.
@stevenroetzel4470

Fletcher was a conflicted character. He negotiated in good faith (and compensation) to bring the guerilla fighters in under an agreement of fair treatment. Yeah man, you're spot on. It really is a story about self-respect. And that is really the thing that has taken down regimes in all ages: Individuals, peoples and minorities with self-respekt. Really cool that you saw this film! I've loved it since I first saw it many years ago now. Keep going, brother! Love you 👍🤠

Clint, directing, really brought authenticity to Westerns, and most the movies he has directed. His early days as actor only, were kind of stereotypical polished.

The thing what he got was true...how conflicted things were then. Brother against brother...we were a young nation...many of the Westerner territories were wild. I mean...Oklahoma only became a state in 1910s. This was 40 some years before. War was very unrestricted.

Clint give all Americans the sight of how it was and how it should be , remember what you've done and remember what is it to think about . Cause everyone has the thinking about Pride in his mind ..... so respect is the answer .

I love your reviews. When I turn on RU-vid, the first thing I look for is what reaction you have for us. No, I don't watch them all. I am really particular about my movies, but you are, in my opinion, one of the most entertaining and intelligent reactors out there. Thanks for all the good times ! By the way, Chief Dan George was an actual Chief if real life. Damn, I miss that man so much...Clint said he was not an actor, but he really did tune in on what they wanted him to do in this film, and he had all of Clint's respect for it. Chief Dan George, OC (July 24, 1899 - September 23, 1981) was a chief of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, a Coast Salish band whose Indian reserve is located on Burrard Inlet in the southeast area of the District of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

I love this movie. I seen it about 50 times and is still great. To me not only is it one of the best westerns ever but also one of the best movies ever made.One of my favorite lines is when the bounty hunter comes in the bar and says 'you're a wanted man Wales'., and Wales says 'I reckon i'm right popular .'

I never thought of that Devin. The Indians coming in to help out would've been badass actually.
@Falcun21
@Falcun21 3 года назад
The Comanche coming to help would have implied that they felt Josey NEEDED help. If he needed help he would ask for it. It would have been seen as offering a great warrior an insult and thus never would have crossed Ten Bears' mind. You always have to remember that the warriors of old had a different mentality. You could ask for help and allies would help, but just offering aid could be seen as insulting. You had to phrase it just right. Ten Bears could have come and helped and then said that that it was insulting to him that Josey would have a fight and not invite his brother Ten Bears. Pride was a very touchy thing back in the old days.

One of the best depictions of the attitude of some southerners at the time. There's no bullshit lost cause. The hatred wasn't all about slavery but it definitely wasn't about states rights like they started saying after they lost.
