Thank you for this video. I was saying this was an issue 2 years ago as well, and no one listened to me. I was always just the Padres hater. Ive been watching them for over 2 decades. Im a fan. But if there is one thing this team has consistently done over that period, its leave runners on base who could have won them the game. The number of times they get 2 runners on with no outs, and then get 3 in a row via (strike outs, short pop flys, or hitting into double plays), has always been infuriating. The only thing that changed with this new team is that the players they have now get home runs more often and therefore drive in runs more often, but the issue still remaind. Tldr; - Padres have always tried to swing for the fences, but they connect more now than before - If the Padres are losing by the 4th inning, they stop playing baseball

Dude, their "guy" is a manchild who celebrates every home run, even when the team is underperforming, who lied and said that his positive drug test was because of ringworm treatments, and missed a bunch of time because of a motorcycle accident right after he got signed to a 13 year, $400m deal, or however much it was. He acts like a 16 year old high school kid, but they entrusted the franchise to him. How could the team that is led by that guy NOT going to be toxic? Great player, complete douchebag, statistically makes his team better, but his attitude is also exactly what hurts a lot of teams. Reminds me of A-Rod, who never would have won anything if he didn't go to a stacked Yankees team for the last 12 years of his career.

No depth. They’re built around a few stars and most of the team is replacement level. Don’t believe me? Gary Sanchez and Austin Nola are their catchers; Sanchez is having one of his best years with the bat, but that’s fueled entirely by a ridiculous 7.3 homer percentage Jake Croenworth is the first baseman. Jake Croenworth is not a major league player at first base. You’re not winning anything if Jake Croenworth is the best you can do at first base. Bogey’s getting paid 27 million a year through his 30s. His bat has been in linear decline for years and he’s never been more than adequate defensively. Trent Grisham is a fourth outfielder, not an everyday center fielder. Matt Carpenter or Nelson Cruz would be a fantastic DH three years ago, but now it’s 2023. The starting rotation…yeesh. Seth Lugo, a reliever, has been forced to start all year and provided a little below average value. He’s also their second best starting pitcher because Yu Darvish has had one good season since 2017 and that was last year, Joe Musgrove missed half the year, Michael Wacha missed half the year, and the one young starter they haven’t traded has sucked. Again, a star (Blake Snell) surrounded by scrubs; even the bullpen is the exact same, with a single true standout in Josh Hader and a bunch of other guys who are decent at best.

@@warlordofbritannia The most successful teams over the last 15 years have been ones who focused on their farm system while making smart decisions in free agency. Even the Dodgers who try to buy their way into a world series, have had a top 3 farm over the last decade which has allowed them to inject superstars they develop into a lineup they enhance in the off season. Look at the Rays, who have not spent any money at all and field a product that has gotten them the 4th most regular season wins in the last 15 years. You win with a good farm system, and the Padres traded all that away just to play worse. The fact that they don't even have a guy in AAA who can take Grisham or Carpenter's job is horrendous.

Everyone preseason was saying Padres would overtake the Dodgers, Padres would make the playoffs, Padres for the World Series. I was saying "NOPE!". It was easy to see for anyone paying attention that this roster was not built for a deep playoff run - you don't win with a handful of superstars and a bunch of leftovers to fill in the roster. You need balance, you need complementary players, you need chemistry. Padres had none of that this year. I've been saying for years that AJ Preller needs to go. He's been the GM for, what, ten years? At one point he had the number one farm system in baseball, and now basically has infinite money to spend, and the Padres under his tenure has one playoff appearance to show for it (2020 doesn't count, as far as I'm concerned). He has no idea how to put together a winning team, a complete roster. It's stunning how much young talent he's traded away for nothing, how much money he's spent on bad contracts - whether it's prematurely giving a totally unproven Tatis $340 mil, to giving 11/$280 mil to a 30 year old Bogaerts with declining skills, to giving a 37 year old Darvish a five year extension, and so on and so forth. I'm starting to think Preller has dirt on Peter Seidler.

Personally, I think the Padres have a “clubhouse” problem. Back when Tom Lasorda became head coach of the Dodgers, when Walt Alston retired, around 3 months later, Davey Lopes was being interviewed by Vin Scully, and Vin asked him something about some problems, and what would you say to Lasorda about it. His answer stayed with me to this day. “I would tell Tommy that there are a lot of egos in the clubhouse, and you need to figure out a way to bring them together”… I think the same thing is happening in the Padres clubhouse.

Why is everybody ignoring the obvious? They could just be crumbling under the pressure. The not hitting with RISP, the losing ALL extra innings games and most one-run games, them walking away with it once they're ahead leading to blowouts. I highly doubt that they don't know hitting basics or that it's some "clubhouse cancer". They are hitting just fine ONCE THEY'RE SAFELY WINNING. It's like people think they're immune to such stresses--newsflash, they're not.

This year they are currently +97 runs and give up the 2nd least runs in the NL and score an above avg.amount Their record in close games was abysmal. I hope he continues to ask the right questions. Somebody in San Diego is doing things right stay the course but figure out what some of the answers might be. Getting rid of Melvin and promote Schildt ask about their situational hitting approach(maybe too patient at the wrong times) Baserunning,, One run strategies(stealing and bunting) and overall relief pitching. Fixing the debacle in close games would have had them in the playoffs. Atlanta and LA will be tough to beat in the NL this year.

They are closing the year strong and will probably come close to getting that last wild card spot but fall just short...I'd watch out for them next year.
@fedordedov783
@fedordedov783 7 месяцев назад
No because they'll have the same problem again next year - too many egos. Too many chiefs not enough indians. Too many guys worried about their own stat lines - not the team's record. Machado and Tatis shty egos aren't going to dissolve away over the off season.

As a Padres fan, I can say that I am getting toxic. Too many losses of 1 run games and zero wins of extra inning games. The bottom line is the Padres need to hire NBA coaching great Phil Jackson. They will be hitting free throws and running that triangle offense in no time.

Look at the Padres roster, and you can tell they wanted to assemble a bad guy team. That points to toxic leadership. Juan Soto is a prima dona. Machado has been known as a dirty player for years. Tatis is a showboat and a drug cheat. This is a team more interested in being bat flipping, chest thumping superstars than they are in being a cohesive unit. Their season wasn't hard to predict.

Idk if it's they don't know how tbh. I think from watching it's the main 4 maybe 5 guys don't want to be the guy the hits the sac or bunts. Not to single him out im just using him has example but seems to be like Tatis don't want to be the guy to hit sac so next guy hits rbi single. They all want to be the guy who just hits the two run hr m I will say soto is still talking his walks and don't seem to be just wanting to be the main star but idk

Padres need aggressive management style. losing all extra innings and most 1 run games is on the manager. Hit and run! Bunt way more often. Azocar top of lineup CF. Grisham bench until late in the game. Kim bat 2nd. Tatis 3 Soto 4. Next season unload Grisham and most of bullpen all DH’s. Get 1 starting pitcher and solid DH. Sign Snell,Hater,Kim.

You get what you pay for & the Padres paid for someone who knows little to nothing about Major League Baseball & they are getting little to nothing from Tricker. But, if the GM & Owner think it's a good idea, then they will have to find an answer when they fail. Sad part is they will fire the Manager or get rid of players, because their ego won't let them say they failed, they'll blame everyone else.

But he’s a good shooter for a short guy 😂😂

Dear Jimmy, on the Padres; remember their spring training barbecue and all those player’s put out their kinda feigned certainty this very season they would hit the playoffs and went on to say “they were the team which was going to win the World Series.” Well it’s more like they bloody well cursed themselves. Just too obnoxious to watch and especially where they all seem to lack any humility and sense of reality, plus a kinda ‘goal shouting’ pissing contest, in which the disbelief already surfaced in the very lameness of their remarks. The fact that they don’t know how to play situational baseball makes this gathering of individuals absolutely unfit to be on the roster for the San Diego ball club. A clean sweep is obviously necessary. Plus a long retreat in advance of the ‘24 season, where they submit themselves to the habit, humility and some cleansing ceremonies and purging nutrition! Cheerio

Most people think a great plan is what is needed. That couldn’t be farther from the truth! A good plan well implemented is far better than a great plan poorly implemented. Effective Implementation is far more important than the plan. Most people cannot implement and this is why they fail.
