They breed locally, but from my understanding, they do migrate in certain periods of the year! So maybe that's why you have pockets of time where we dont see them!! And also, yes they are very very beautiful!!

is it illegal to pick up wild animals but put them back where you found them in sg?

hmm this one is a tricky question! Legally, for sure, there's a list of protected species! And some animals like ants/cockroaches/mynas/crows etc are not protected... but then it leads to other ethical topics too - and then also what if you found an injured bird - and you have to care for it as you/before you bring it to ACRES... it's a very layered topic which I unfortunately cannot give you a definite answer for :(
