We have most of the parts for the RDX build, hopefully the rest come in by the end of the video. I found deals on the parts from unusual places, like the dealer. You can't beat OEM parts to make the repair process go as smoothly as possible.

The OEM being less expensive is because of the chip shortage. Less cars are being made than planned because parts factories requiring chips cannot make as many parts. So the stamping factories now have capacity to make more panels than needed. So they are producing excess stamped parts and selling them through the parts counter at lower prices rather than having the factory sit idle. (undercutting salvage yards and aftermarket suppliers) (same goes for other parts that don't need chips)
@ddemier
@ddemier Год назад
Makes sense. I think junkyard prices are out of control anymore.
@vehcor
@vehcor Год назад
Interested take but I watched salvage yards overpay for inventory, now they are trying to recoup the money. Manufacturers producing fewer vehicles means they can make more parts to undercut the salvage yards while keeping vehicle prices higher. They used the chip shortage to change vehicle buying to on-demand.
@wilkesjournal
@wilkesjournal Год назад
I think some of the salvage yards are overpriced because they simply aren't doing all the research. They don't know what every part costs new because they aren't checking all of them. Perhaps others know and don't care. If they're fairly regularly getting $650 for a used hood that the dealer sells new for $500 and nobody seems the wiser, why would they change?

It's surprising the OEM parts were cheaper ... I remember going to a Honda dealer to buy a thermostat for a 2003 Civic. Something which should have costed $5-10 was over $30. I thought that's how Honda rolls ... guess I need to rethink things a little bit.
@vehcor

Things change, I always check with the dealer just incase. Turns out, I might need to start checking with the salvage yards on the off chance they are not overcharging. 😂
@Paulster2
@Paulster2 Год назад
@@vehcor - I'm wondering if the reason the salvage yards are more expensive is because of what started as the chip shortage and ended up driving the cost of used cars through the roof. Seems if used car prices are going up, people won't be getting rid of their old cars as readily, which means junk yards aren't getting parts cars, which would drive up prices. Okay, I'm all out of my conspiracy theories for now ...

It really helps when you know where all the bolts go too! Honda calls what you are saying air intake a joint. Not sure if you looked in the turbo but I built a CRV that had a broken joint and a piece of plastic went in and bent the turbo impeller causing it not to turn. Just an FYI.
